QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:55 AM) FYI, I have an internship in the private sector now (2nd one at this company) and trust me, while there are many great minds here, there are plenty of people who do whatever they can jsut to keep their job. Those people should be fired. Hell, the government would be a lot more efficient if they had the ability to fire crappy employees. But a lot of these GS bums have tenure and can't be fired for anything. That's generally one advantage the private sector has over the public sector: the ability to clean out the waste.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:54 AM) I'll have you know that lostfan is a converted communist. And Sqwert is annoying, especially when you meet him and he tries to convert you to his born-again christian religion. In all seriousness, though...there is nothing wrong with having an opinion, but you have to remember that there are exceptions to every rule. I've met a lot of public workers that are lazy...just as I've met a lot of private workers that are equally lazy. I've admitted that there are exceptions to each of these rules. However, I still ardently believe that the private sector is far more efficient. If these guys like BigSqwert and Russ can't accept that as my opinion, then whatever.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:52 AM) many people believe that if you go into the military it's a last resort to save yourself and/or your career. Once again, there are exceptions to the rule. There are a few people I've met who went military because they didn't know where else to go. And the military provides discipline so that aimless recruits like this can be molded into decent Soldiers and perhaps even above-average or excellent NCOs someday. The military will shape pretty much anyone to be exactly what it wants them to be. That sort of discipline would work wonders on these civilians, unfortunately we can't really force them to attend boot camp.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:49 AM) Let's have attacks on someone's lifestyle and then tell them to calm down! Sounds like what all conservatives do! Public sector work is a lifestyle now? Ha.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:44 AM) How the hell does this guy get away with the hyperbolic bile in this forum? I thought there were some rules established here. All Dems are unpatriotic unAmericans. All public workers are lazy bums. These are facts now. SMH It's just what I've what I've witnessed, Sqwert. There are exceptions to both of them. LostFan served in the military, so I'd count him as a patriot regardless of his political views. And there are good public workers. Just not many. You're not going to change that opinion by whining and trying to get me banned.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:41 AM) Yes, I have worked under many people in public jobs (at my university, specifically University Housing). Are there some chumps working there? Yup. But I could easily list off a number of people who chose to go into that field because they are PASSIONATE about their work, they choose to get paid crap because they CAN make a difference there. You may not notice that difference if you spend a day there, but if you look at where that campus was just a few years ago and where it is now, you will notice the impact they have had on it. And, I also worked for the university as an intern while on campus, and I would say I was pretty passionate about that too. I could've been out partying (more), studying (ha!), or hanging with friends during that time I worked but I chose to take that job not because I needed the money (I didn't) but because it was something I really wanted to do. So yes, there are passionate people in the public sector. So STFU with your hyperbole. Sheesh. Calm down. There are exceptions to my belief. I've met a very few decent individuals who work for the government. But as a general rule of thumb, people who go into the private sector are far more competent than people who go into the public sector.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:40 AM) I have family that works for the government. None of them are lazy. They all go to work everyday and work hard. None of them are idiots either. Do you go to work with them? I'm sure the families of the CIF people I despise think they are solid workers.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) We should have a military dictatorship in this country. Nothing like putting words in somebody's mouth, eh?
-
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:26 AM) Ah, I see. Somehow, you're the exception. No, the military is the exception. The military functions with discipline, order and a sense of urgency. The civilians who work with us, not so much. For example, everytime I've gone to CIF (central issue facility), some guy will always state that there is no time for fooling around and that we have so much to get done. The Soldiers acknowledge this and respond accordingly, but the fat trailer-park civilians whom we have to turn our stuff into sit there and play on their phones or chat with their friends. You practically have to throw your stuff at them to get them to do their job. If you weren't in the military, I wouldn't expect you to understand. But I see this every day.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:25 AM) You seem like a very angry person. Perhaps a spa vacation could do you wonders. I'm pretty sure that our similar signatures represent the only topic on which we'll ever agree.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 05:57 AM) Oh come one. You can't tell him to stop labeling whole swaths of people with a broad brush. That's his entire schtick. Such as when Dems label entire groups of people "racist teabaggers" (without any proof whatsoever), or when they assume any black conservative is a dolt who doesn't know what's best for him? Sure, BigSqwert, just stay convinced that your beloved democrats are such tolerant little angels.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) Believe it or not but some people have a passion for their jobs in the government. Passion? Are you kidding me? I refuse to believe you've ever met a person who has worked for the government. Seriously...passion for their jobs? Wow. And BigSqwert, you can whine all you want, but I'd be surprised if you ever met a government worker yourself. And even if either of you have met a decent public employee in your lives, it doesn't change the fact that the private sector is far more effective.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) Did you just call yourself an idiot? The military is fine. Some of the most brilliant minds I've ever come across. It's the civilians we work with who are idiots. Lazy, undisciplined, selfish, incompetent, mean-spirited. It's disgusting that we have to put up with this.

Lillibridge has officially worn out his welcome.

So much for Adam's "revival" last night.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:54 PM) The gov't is just flat-out not coordinated/competent enough to pull some s*** off like that. All those moving parts moving at the same time? No. Just no. This is a big reason I'm conservative. I grew up in a military family, I'm in the military...I heard my parents b**** about those government types all my life and now I'm witnessing it myself. The government is full of morons, and it does nothing to the same standard as the private sector. If you work for the government (and you're not prior military), you're the bottom of the barrel. Quality workers go private; the idiots go public. Just what I've witnessed.

No one up in the pen. Thanks, Ozzie.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) And somehow no one connected has talked about it. Ever. Must have been a hell of a pay day. No wonder the deficit is sooo huge.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:35 PM) Bush who wasn't smart enough to plant WMDs in Iraq somehow controlled the world oil market was a personal favorite. Or just the idea that Bush was supposedly a moron, but was somehow able to pull off the greatest inside job terrorist attack in history. Oh, and then the government did all this stuff to set up 9/11 to look like the work of Islamic whackos, paying people off and sneaking hundreds of tonnes of explosives into the WTC and so on and so on, and yet, guys like Loose Change creator Dylan Avery somehow survived to release their silly theories. The government's gonna do all this plotting and not preemptively wipe out the whistleblower? Suuuure.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) I guess what I'm saying is if I made up a similar list about conservatives that sounded really hostile to you (which does and will happen on this board), and said you'd have to justify it, you'd probably roll your eyes and be like "not this s*** again, he has no idea what he's talking about." I'm personally more like "this is what I understand you to believe and this is why I think you're wrong." I don't actually expect you to agree with me but I try to be heard. I know what you mean and I don't know what you mean. Most know me to have a rather abrasive personality, so I'll have to work on this whole cordial discussion thing.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) That's not what I'm getting at... I'm saying you're going about this the wrong way. You come in guns blazing and attacking someone's ideology and belief system right from jump, and demanding they explain how and why they are not seditious parasites who are destroying America and you can't be surprised when you either get nothing or you get resistance/hostility. The reaction is the same as the one you give when someone does it to you. Took me a while to figure this out, myself. I have to pick and choose how I respond to things and when, otherwise it burns a lot of my energy that I'd rather spend playing with my son, screwing around on Xbox, jacking off, etc. Ohhhh. So instead of hating on liberals, I should be masturbating? Might not be a bad idea. But on a serious note, guns blazing is just my style. I figured I was offering my side of the argument when I wrote up that list this morning, and that people could defend the left's attitudes from there. If that's not a good way to do things, I honestly couldn't tell you what a good way is. Isn't this how any argument goes? One side posts their stuff and whoever disagrees defends themselves? If someone posted a thread about racist conservatives, I'd jump in and say why it wasn't so. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong.
-
Whether you like my reasons for my beliefs or not, I do. And I will stand by them until someone offers better reasons to believe something else. A little flaming from the very people I'm against in the first place is not going to change my thoughts.
-
Thanks for nothing, Jake.
-
This argument is pointless. No one needs to defend themselves to me, but the fact that no one refuted any of my points about unpatriotic things done by leftists means my opinion isn't going to change much. No one could even offer up a reason that liberals serve in the military in such puny numbers. So yeah, my opinion on this isn't going to change anytime soon.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 05:59 AM) What exactly is the purpose of creating a thread like this? What meaningful discussion will come out of it? You're basically labeling all liberals as unAmerican and unpatriotic. Ok. Great. We get it. You despise liberals. You've made that perfectly clear in the very brief time you've spent in this forum. I have to go now to create a thread about how conservatives are mostly bigots, racists, and homophobes and link one study that was done on the subject. I expect some deep, meaningful discussion to arise from it. Oh and speaking of factual statements, you've thrown out a lot of 'factual statements' in this forum that seem a heck of a lot like your own opinions when describing liberals. And is liberals being unpatriotic supposed to be a fact? Why because of this one study? What about the countless studies about climate change? Those don't count as facts but this one study proves that liberals are unpatriotic and/or unAmerican. LOL. Keep dishing us the facts! You're like the conservative Colbert. You want to talk about unpatriotic liberals? Ok, let's talk about... ...Obama's statement that he believes in American exceptionalism just as a Greek believes in Greek exceptionalism or a Turk believes in Turkish exceptionalism. We are the greatest country in human history, the nation that institutionalized democracy and set the example for the world to follow, and we elicit comparisons to Turkey from our own president? Wow. ...leftist groups such as Code Pink. They have tried to shut down the USMC recruiting station in Berkeley (hell, the entire city of Berkeley is a good entry on this list), they have stated that the Marines are war criminals, and co-founder Jodie Evans was so thoughtful that she told a grieving gold-star mother that her son deserved to die in Iraq for being "stupid enough to go over there". ...leftists like Jane Fonda and Sean Penn. Jane Fonda goes and poses in an NVA AA gun and then tells the American people we'd all be communists if we knew what it was (three million Cambodians dumped into early graves apparently unavailable for comment). Sean Penn puts so much slobber on Hugo Chavez' knob that Ozzie Guillen suggests he move down there. ...leftist politicians like Cynthia McKinney and Dennis Kucinich (and the people that vote for them). McKinney goes on Libyan state television and tells the world that Libya's a better place to live than the USA because it has free public education. The dope couldn't even be bothered to get her facts straight. And of course, I'm sure the hundreds of thousands of Libyans who failed to see old age under Gaddafi would beg to differ. And Kucinich goes on Syrian TV and tells everyone that Bashir Assad is loved by his own people, ironically, right as Assad continues to slaughter a popular uprising. ...Obama's flagrant violations of the Constitution and American law, such as his recent appointment of Jesse Lee to censor bad press, or Operation Fast and Furious (at the very least, Holder should fry for this), or forcing the American people to buy healthcare. Oh, and then there's the liberal support for things like the UN's Small Arms Treaty, which would crush the 2nd Amendment and hand our national sovereignty over to the tyrants of the United Nations. ...the composition of the military. No one has addressed it, but clearly the military has done the most for America as an organization, and clearly it is enormously conservative. There are exceptions, but you just don't see liberals rushing to join the ranks. Most liberals shun the military, as I've shown here. Why is that? The items on this list range from frivolity to bad policy to treason outright. I know you'll disagree and accuse me of spouting bumper slogans or some ridiculous excuse, but if you can't even see why I would question the patriotism of liberals, then I don't know what to tell you.
