Some truth to unpatriotic liberals?
QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 11:18 PM) These two points don't really jive with eachother. You're picking out the names applied to the right by liberals (and it seems that you disagree with their application), while endorsing the exact label lostfan was talking about. Has anyone offered any proof of racist activities from Tea Partiers or other conservatives? Andrew Breitbart offered to make any of the TP's many accusers a very rich man, but none of those vocal critics have stepped forward with any sort of proof. However, when a black man supports conservative ideas, the left, the same group that likes to brand Obama's opponents as racists for no reason at all, castrates them. Congressman Allen West is criticized as an Uncle Tom and a "lawn jockey". I can't find it, but I even remember a commenter at ThinkProgress suggesting that him and his family be lynched. So, to recap, when a black man steps out of line and comes up with his own ideas, the left goes apes***. They punish black men who have the audacity to think for themselves. If that isn't racist, I don't know what is. But oddly, the left will continue calling all of its critics racist. It disgusts me.

Some truth to unpatriotic liberals?
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 10:24 PM) Any half-assed concept can use empty patriotism as its justification and then you can just chase off anyone who isn't "patriotic." Listening to the right, I don't even want to be "patriotic" any more and it doesn't bother me to be labeled as "unpatriotic" since they get to define what it's supposed to mean. It's just an empty word, and the charge doesn't even really have to be true or accurate. Like "socialist." Yay, Newspeak. Or like "racist", "Islamophobic" or "homophobic"? The left does it too, and like you, I don't care if I receive any of those meaningless labels anymore.

Some truth to unpatriotic liberals?
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) This thread is the perfect example of trolling. Do you ever make actual arguments? All I've seen you do is write conservatives off with weak excuses. You can disagree with my idea of patriotism, but all I did is post a study from Harvard that revealed an interesting point and offered some proof to a commonly held stereotype. And northeast academics aren't the types to have friendly biases towards conservatism. To say this is trolling is unfair. And can anyone really argue that the military is vastly conservative, and that it is the right that defends American exceptionalism from the left? You can disagree with the idea of exceptionalism, but I wouldn't put you in the category of American patriots if you do. Our beliefs have consequences.

Some truth to unpatriotic liberals?
Don't want your kids to vote Republican? Don't celebrate the 4th. Interesting study. Along with most people, I've always held that the GOP is the party of patriotism. It shows in the ideology of 95% of the military, it shows in our belief in American exceptionalism, and personally I think our belief in small government and free market enterprise is more in line with the beliefs of our Founding Fathers. But it's still interesting to see a study that backs it up empirically. Although I'd hate to think that leftist parents will see this and stop celebrating what little they do of the 4th in order to drive their children closer towards a lifetime of Democratic votes. You know, lunatic parents like Kathy Witterick and David Stocker. (I know they're Canadian, but it's still loony liberal parenting.) All that said, I should probably stop talking since I've spent my fourth almost entirely on my couch.

Sox/Royals 7/4 - Sox gain independence from being under .500
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) In 25 years of watching baseball I don't think I've ever seen a "balk off" in a Whitesox game. Can someone please describe what exactly the pitcher did? My internet speed was too slow for MLB.TV tonight... I've been a baseball fan all my life, and I still don't understand the balk rule. I'll understand women before I understand that. But apparently Crow leaned forward before stepping off the rubber...

Have fun at the AS Game, Mr. Crow. You obviously deserve it.

DSK Rape Case A Big Lie
Also, once these claims are proven to be false, her name needs to be revealed and her face should be plastered on the news. She wants to ruin someone else? Ruin her. Not that she's amounted to much so far anyway.

How about a walkoff? Oh what am I saying. This team blows in extras.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 07:15 PM) Only Hawk would call that a "towering home run" when if it was a few feet to the right the LF might have snagged it. Sheesh. I think he was talking about the hang time. That thing was up there forever.

Random question: what happened to Tyler Flowers? I saw a list of our top prospects the other day and he wasn't even on it. Has he been written off? Also, if Pierre got 5 ABs every game for 20 games, I don't care if he doesn't get a hit. That many ABs means someone is getting hits, and we're probably scoring more than we are now. I'll take it!

Loaded for Alexei. I'm not even kidding...I don't get excited in these situations anymore. I get scared. Like when I broke some artifact in my house when I was a kid, and I'd cower in my room until my mom came home and ripped me a new one. Alexei hits into a DP. Run scores, but so what? Pathetic.

1st and 2nd, nobody out. Isn't it horrible that my only thought right now is "how can they f*** this up?"

Why do we swing at the first pitch? We can't hit, granted, but couldn't we at least make them work? Rios is the worst offender on this one. I played in a tournament in 8th Grade and before I walked to the plate, my coach grabbed me and said if I swung at the first pitch, I wouldn't play in the tournament again. Needless to say, I didn't swing. Actually, I don't think I ever swung at the firstpitch again. How about we fire Ozzie and hire that guy?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) Morel, Rios and Dunn all between 575-601 OPS. JESUS of Nazareth, that's not good. Do any other contending teams have 3 guys below 600, in the AL? Can we just stick in DeAza in CF? I'm guessing the answer to that is no, he sucks in CF. I'd call us a pretty marginal contending team, sadly.

My drill sergeant once referred to Francoeur as "that d*****bag who plays for the Mets". A little out of date, apparently, but other than that, I'd say he was right.

DSK Rape Case A Big Lie
Accuser's phone call to imprisoned boyfriend: "This guy has a lot of money. I know what I'm doing." Dominique Strauss Kahn is a cheese-eating socialist as far as I'm concerned. I am the last person to have even the slightest bit of sympathy for the man. And to be totally honest, the idea that he could go to prison for life based on veritable charges was just an awesome idea. That being said, it appears these accusations were blatantly false, and nothing more than the vain attempts of a money grubbing whore to enrich herself. No one, not even someone like DSK, deserves to have their life ruined by this sort of crap. We need to continue the investigation. And if it does indeed turn out that the accuser was just making this all up to get money from the man, as it appears she was, she needs to be put on trial and then sent to prison for at least the better part of a decade. And then deport her back to Guinea upon her release. One other thing...how stupid is this woman? She really thought that her jailhouse phone call wouldn't be recorded? And did she think that, being involved in such a high profile case, the investigators wouldn't go to the ends of the Earth to find someone to translate that unique dialect?

White Sox vs Cubs First Pitch 1:20 CT
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) Heaven forbid we score early runs and give Floyd some support. Not that he's pitching well by any means, but our offense is so bad it is the major problem. Humber had mediocre stuff yesterday and the same miserable offense. But he's a gamer so he put his head down and got the win. Gavin, not so much.

White Sox vs Cubs First Pitch 1:20 CT
I have no interest in watching Gavin Floyd pitch. I looked at the MLBTV screen one last time, and you can see it in his eyes. He's just weakminded. I'm going to the gym. Adios.

White Sox vs Cubs First Pitch 1:20 CT
Gavin Floyd is the most overrated pitcher on this team. Who ever thought this guy was actually good? He's Jon Garland Part II. I swear, if we decide to get rid of the 6 man rotation and Humber goes to the pen and not this guy, I'm straight up done with this team.
