  1. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:39 PM) After you have the opportunity to see a couple live games, you'll get it. Have you seen Torii Hunter live this year? If not, are you therefore not in a position to say he's been bad defensively this year?
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) I asked that too, no one had an exact answer He would need 201 PA as of after this game to be qualified. He has 171.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:32 PM) Petricka is so underrated. Webb too. Putnam too. Basically our whole bullpen minus Belisario and Downs is good. I'm probably forgetting someone- oh yeah, except Guerra too. And Carroll. There's a strong case to be made that Belisario's been better than Petricka this season, looking beyond ERA
  4. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) Absolutely, especially for outfielders. You just don't get a good enough perspective. You don't see plays develop. You don't see how players position themselves. You don't see their jumps. You see about 25% of the play on TV. For evaluating a one-off play where no replay is shown, sure, it's not ideal. For evaluating over thousands of plays, it's easily enough, particularly when combined with studying defensive metrics. They're not ideal, but looking at them over a 3-year period is more than enough to accurately surmise whether a player is obviously good or obviously bad. Viciedo is obviously bad.
  5. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) So you think you can make definitive judgements about outfielders based on what you see on TV? By that logic, you would have thought Jim Edmonds and Aaron Rowand were HOF calibre defenders. Do you honestly think it's impossible to evaluate how good a defender a player is without seeing regular games in person?
  6. Worst thing that happened this year for the long-term chances of the Sox was the dumbass Rangers trading Kinsler for Fielder
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:17 PM) yet his BABIP remains the same Tyler's now somehow hitting 4% below league average despite that huge BABIP. It's kind of impressive.
  8. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) Have you ever watched him play? No, I've never watched him play. This is my first White Sox game and there is an unfortunately large spider on my screen which is blocking right field.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:14 PM) If that was true then why don't other managers do it? Tell me, when is the last time you saw a manager pull a pitcher after throwing a second ball? I haven't seen it once this season The top levels of sport are very risk-averse places. Often people will not do something simply because it's not usually done, e.g. going for it on 4th down.
  10. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:14 PM) With all due respect, you're not qualified to call a player a good or bad defender. Have you ever even seen him play? By that logic, are any of us here qualified to say anything about baseball ever? He's a really bad defender. It's kind of obvious.
  11. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 07:55 PM) He is what he is. If he was a good baserunner and fielder he could be a 2-5 WAR player. But, he's not, in fact he's an awful runner and an awful defender. It adds up to around 1 WAR unless he hits more than 260/310/400, and I really don't think he can. He has plenty of PA in MLB and the last 300 or so he's had zero injury excuse. At least a guy like Eaton can contribute even if he's hitting 260. Viciedo just bring nothing except his bat, and his bat isn't very good. I wish he was a 1 WAR player. His first 3 years with the Sox, he was 0.2, 0.1 and 0.3. He was -0.1 last year and is at -0.1 this year. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 07:57 PM) He's not an awful defender. Yes, yes he is.
  12. Was just typing out "you know you're struggling when you're walking Alexei Ramirez"... should've known better. Never change Lexi.
  13. WELCOME BACK I'VE MISSED YOU SO MUCH PLS STAY
  14. Conor Gillaspie is the greatest hitter of all-time
  15. De Aza might have had a shot at that if he timed his jump a little better
  16. I guess there was a reason Giants fans called Conor 'Noodle Arm'
  17. Martinez having a solid night in the field
  18. Wow, thought that was 10 rows back
  19. Who would have predicted pre-season that by June 10th Conor Gillaspie would be hitting 170 points higher in the majors than Matt Davidson at AAA
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) If he he is DFA, you'd have to trade for him. Can't you just wait and then sign him?
  21. Just saw Trevor Cahill was designated for assignment. Decent numbers as a reliever this year. Worth a flyer?
