any chance you guys think Seby is the backup C over Collins in the playoffs?

Dominant 1st inning for Lucas

More likely he's going to be called up for Sunday, IMO
I'm in favor of getting guys extra rest, but deciding to use a spot starter against *Cleveland* is very bizarre.

Well it didn't happen, but it had legs, haha: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/padres-rangers-discussing-scenarios-involving-eric-hosmer-joey-gallo.html
Hassell falling into your lap to take on some dead money would be a dream for a rebuilding team.

2 guys the Sox could really use off the board. Not a good afternoon
Of players that are/were realistically available, I don't think there's a better fit in baseball for the Sox than Joey Gallo
The system needs to be built back up to a point where premium players like this are realistically attainable.

Gallo to the Yanks

I don't think it's unreasonable or overly negative to be upset that the farm system is at a point where we ALL know a trade of Gallo coming here isn't realistic at all.

Love to see Robert running well and gliding into 2b like that.

Would the Sox take on Blackmon to reduce the prospect cost?
Ope...never mind. I see he’s signed through 2022 for A LOT.
I can't ever envision Reinsdorf signing off on something like that

Wait, I missed something, what's the deal with Cease?
Cease would normally be scheduled to start Sunday on normal rest, but for some reason the Sox Sunday starter is currently TBA.

FWIW, Jimmy Lambert only went 2 IP. Could mean #hugwatch, or he is getting the Cease TBA start, or nothing.
I'm probably worrying about nothing, but I hope everything is okay with Cease.

I didn't know what to make of it because the article may have just been other executives sensing an opportunity to lower his value, but the whispers about Story having an injury are definitely concerning
"
Rockies shortstop Trevor Story is one of the biggest names on the trade market, but mostly by reputation. Story, 28, is in the middle of his worst offensive season, and some baseball people are alarmed by his poor throwing.
“His throws look off and have all year,” one rival executive said.
Statcast numbers support the executive’s observation. The average velocity on the top 10 percent of Story’s throws is 78.1 mph, down from 80.4 last season and an average of 85.4 the four previous years. More traditional numbers also point to a decline: Story has made six throwing errors, one short of his career-high."

The cost for Escobar will almost certainly be cheaper, and he's been a better player than Story so far in '21.
But if the Sox prefer Story and want to bet on his track record/upside, fair enough. But they better land him if that's the case because Escobar just went for a nothing return and he would have been a massive addition to this team.

Don't think the farm system is holding them back from getting Escobar.
The cost for rentals has been higher than I was expecting. We know they liked Escobar. I hope you're right.

Never forget when Nightengale tweeted Escobar was "soon on his way to the White Sox" like a month ago

There are consequences to having such an awful farm system and we're seeing it now. Hopefully the Sox can at least pick up someone like Harrison or Schoop, at the very least.

Apparently he’s having TJS this week, so the box score is unfortunately an error.
Sigh. Thank you for clarifying.

For some reason I had it in my head that Luke Shilling had TJS. Glad to see he was back for WS tonight and pitched a scoreless inning with 2 K's. He's someone who I'd think will be in Birmingham soon if he's healthy and the stuff is back.

Adolfo only having 1 option year left really hurts his trade value. He's about to be 25 and he just had a 35% k rate in AA. Expecting him to stick permanently on a major league roster beginning next April just doesn't seem realistic to me, even for a rebuilding club. Odds are you'll be DFAing him in Spring Training or early next year, so why not target a player with a better chance to stick? The returns for Cruz and Chafin indicate you can get decent prospects with ~3 options year left for good rental players.

I feel like Adolfo is more than enough as it is.
I think the returns for Cruz and Chafin indicate it's a sellers market, even for rentals.

Pushing Rodon back 1 day and starting Lambert tomorrow vs KC would have made the most sense, in my opinion
