That and he has inconsistent command this year.
I agree but you can get away with spotty command if you're a strikeout and GB monster.

Those guys don't have a track record except for pitching in a Covid season against two bad divisions. Crochet and Bummer I still have faith in.
I think Bummers struggles are all babip related. A 31% k rate + 73% GB rate are a ridiculously impressive combination. He's fine.

Why not flip roles for Cease and Kopech?
I think there's an argument to be made Kopech is more valuable going 2 innings multiple times in a playoff series rather than going 4 or 5 innings once.

I know relievers are volatile but Heuer regressing so hard this year is shocking to me.

Yermin isn't the first guy to retire abruptly like this. Not all of them actually stay retired. I remember Tommy La Stella briefly retiring after the Cubs demoted him and he's going to end up playing for a long time after that.

Probably should have played the LHH
Too bad observational analytics don't include things like shifting and looking at platoon splits

pineda's off speed stuff has been pretty good tonight to be fair.
It usually is which is why teams normally stack lefties vs him

White Sox scouts are in attendance for Cubs Cardinals fwiw

I hope Yermin is doing alright mentally & emotionally. There's a long big league career ahead of him if he wants it.

If Tony wasn’t stuck in the fucking 80‘s the game is still tied btw.
EVERY other team puts on a pull shift against him
At least he's big on "observational analytics"

Cease wasn't sharp tonight but to be playing one of the most extreme pull hitters in baseball straight up in that position was insane. Those 2 runs were entirely preventable.
It's a subtle thing but the lack of shifting has really hurt the Sox this year.

No shift at all vs Donaldson there is insane. He's an extreme pull hitter.

I am so ready for Nelson Cruz to be on any team that isn't the Twins. Please sign in the NL next year once there's a universal DH.
-
This should be Sheets or Goodwin but I hope Jake comes through here anyway.

That was a dominant inning from Cease. It's turning into a good performance so far, all things considered.

Having plus plus defensive centerfielders like Robert, Engel, and Hamilton is an embarrassment of riches.
-
Abreu has really struggled to lift the ball vs RHP this year. GB rate is like 55% vs them. Engel definitely should have been running.
-
I don't know if he can hit but Jeffers is an impressive defensive catcher

Steal 2nd
Definitely. What are the odds they even throw through?

The difference between a good & poor framing catcher has been on display tonight.

Hamilton is doing everything possible to manufacture a run himself. He's a fun player to watch.
