could the White Sox steal chicago
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) If the Sox and Cubs switched stadiums it would be downright bizarre and nobody would know what to make of it. Had the Cubs demolished Wrigley 25 years ago, and the Sox rehabbed instead of demolished Comiskey, things would be very different attendance-wise. Nah. Wrigley is in a better location with regards to bars and entertainment.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) You can buy drugs from Southpaw outside of Gate C after night games. (I made that up) It's actually outside gate A

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) Well Eddie O thinks they are one, maybe two D men short. Because you know the Hawks are so deep on the blue line He's probably right. Will be interesting to see if Jim Nill addresses that this season or next.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:44 PM) JR is not the majority owner. He is the elected chairman of the board. This is the least important part of the previous argument. Whatever Reinsdorf says, goes. He is, for all intents and purposes, the owner of the Chicago White Sox. Whatever he wants to do, he can do.

QUOTE (L. Ron Paultard @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) I used to be the one loved Trayce Thompson's skill set/upside. He will be an All-Star, one of the rare prospects wh is much better as a matured major-leaguer than his mediocre minor-league record projects. The batspeed, the hand-eye coordination, natural power + the cool yet aggressive temperament, athleticism, instincts = major league quality. Forget about stats, that's not how you evaluate talent in any sport. If OTOH you believe he is a poor man's Brian Anderson, then it's good trade. Same with Montas. If he's a raw Bartolo Colon, then it's a mistake. If just pen arm, no big deal. Micah Johnson? Never got the hype. The first paragraph is really bullish on Thompson. I really don't believe that's true. Also, I'm almost certain the bold is wrong.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) I think the Frazier deal will sell a ton of tickets just to the casual fan. If they add Upton, this lineup might be the best in the AL (on paper) & sell a lot more tickets, including from me. I like your confidence, but I really think it begins and ends with wins

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) I've never really seen anything official on what percent he owns but it isn't very high. I remember reading an article awhile back in which other partners claimed he owned ~15% but he claims it is higher. If he isn't the majority owner, how can he sell the team? He has made it clear he thinks his family should sell the team.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) The Dodgers had a 300M payroll. If a team wants to spend wildly they are free to do so. All he said was that if the owners wanted to go for a high cost, winning team, they could do it. You're looking way too far into this lol.. If you're going to field a winning team, you gotta spend the money on good players. That's certainly the model the White Sox are going for. The other is rebuild, which I understand may or may not work. With an owner at Reinsdorf's age, you can understand why he wouldn't want to do this.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) I'm not missing the point at all. I extended the analogy to overpaying for two guys, and you said "Fine, do it." I want to spend on an outfielder too, but the point is that teams have a finite amount of money to spend despite the salary cap of $Infinity. Do you disagree, or is that not the point? Sure, but we don't know what the White Sox internal cap is, right? The idea that the White Sox can't afford a player is silly. We don't know what Reinsdorf is or isn't willing to spend if Hahn wants to spend it. With a salary cap, I get being worried about "well we already have this and this guy signed, so we can't afford another", but in baseball, Jerry's internal cap could be $110 million or $130 million. We don't know. Regardless, no one here has reason to suggest that the White Sox can't afford a guy if they want him.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) I think he is just getting at the fact that handing out a big money deal this offseason doesn't handcuff the team for years to come or force us to move some one first... Danks/LaRoche coming off the books next year is a huge boost Thank you. Don't worry about it. It's one guy. Don't worry about overpaying one guy.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) LOL sure thing man. Let's sign EVERY free agent, what could possibly go wrong? Can't tell if you're trolling or you don't understand how money works. You're completely missing the point. The point is, don't worry about "overpaying" one guy. It's one guy. Go for it or don't.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) It's not just Reinsdorf's money. It's the money of the entire ownership group in which Reinsdorf is a part of. He has to run the team with the interests of the other owners in mind too. He can't just take money out of their pockets to overspend for his pet project. He's the majority owner. He can do what he wants on that front. And it's not like one outfielder is what is going to blow up this deal. The White Sox have the money. Don't worry about overspending. 1) There's no cap 2) The 2017 team sheds a lot of weight I don't want to go for it every year. I'm a rebuilder guy, but if you're going to go for, go for it.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Extend that - what if they want to sign Cespedes and Upton. No salary cap, Reinsdorf has the money, should be easy, right? If they want to pay it, go right ahead and don't worry about overpaying. It's not that big of a deal.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) You overstate your No Salary Cap point. Teams operate within very real budget constraints whether there's a hard cap or not, I'm not sure why you pretend otherwise. If the White Sox want a FA outfielder "not being able to afford it" isn't going to stop them. Period. Reinsdorf has the money.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) Stop what? I'll make my posts less antagonistic on this if you think they are, but Sox aren't going to be abe to sign a Gordon or Upton or Cespedes. They don't have the $$ for that. If I'm wrong there, I'll be the biggest Hahn fan forever. Right now, I want Lexi and want Avi to turn into Little Miggy. What's wrong with that take? I'm just $aying a fan is dreaming if they think we can sign one of those 3. Rock, you make your statements like they are 100 percent fact. I feel I've been reasonable in my assessment of what I see as an overpay. I already said I want Frazier and Sox need Frazier. I could counter your first sentence with Trayce can field and he looked like a guy who could hit; Micah has always been considered a great prospect though his glove was thoroughly disappointing in his one stint with the Sox and Montas throws 100 and is supposed to be a certain big leaguer. Are you sure you watched baseball? Everybody knows what Trayce and Micah were. Trayce was a guy with a big name and Micah was kind of a disappointment. and for the 400th time Major League Baseball Salary Cap Infinite Dollars

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:29 PM) Shocker, Greg thinks trading fringe big league players is overpaying. And even if it were, who cares? There isn't a salary cap. It doesn't matter at all how much they pay him.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) Come on man, this is so intellectually dishonest. Trayce is not a .900 OPS guy. The fact that there are people here who believe TT is a .900 OPS guy is enough that we should move him. He's not very good at baseball but his value is very high.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) I LOVE this trade. Gave up three talented but flawed prospects for one of the best 3B in baseball. With two years of control, you can give him a few months and then possibly discuss extension, but if he's not interested you'll most likely end up with a comp pick when leaves and hopefully have Trey Michalczewski ready to replace him at that time (obviously not a sure thing). Having said that, we still need to add an OF to replace Avi. Do that, and this team can be serious contenders next year. Agreed. It's refreshing for Hahn to sell high on a guy like Thompson instead of sitting on him until he's no longer a viable bargaining piece.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) It really is amazing guys whose profession sort of requires they know some things, are totally clueless. Well, ever since the big Cubbie move to WSCR, you knew their focus would shift heavily.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) Spiegel speculating Courtney Hawkins as a 4th outfielder this coming season. Turns off radio... I don't mind S&G at all, but Spiegs has no business talking White Sox. CH as a 4th outfielder is nonsense.
