QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) I dont think we will make a serious offer to resign Dye anyways... I feel the same way. I mentioned earlier in the week if we had a legitimate OF prospect to (reasonably) replace Dye, and our CF/SS weren't such liabilities, I'd seriously consider trading him. Another season of numbers matching 70% of 2006 we're not receiving a good-guy discount from him. He'll have one more big contract remaining in his career, and $7 million will be a joke.

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:58 AM) So we'll trade the pitching Aaron Heilman for the OF Aaron Heilman? I have a hard time believing KW will trade Vazquez just because he has always liked him and it pretty much shows KW made a mistake trading for him. I'm not saying he won't trade Javy, and I'm not saying Javy won't be any good for the Sox. Personally I hope we keep him. Hopefully he feels this way and avoids Aaron Rowand as well. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:52 AM) Man, CC is one of the best all-around players in the game. The dude can do everything. I don't buy for a second he would become this "life and pull" guy if he came here. I feel you about the pitching. I'll just say I won't lose any sleep over losing B-Mac if we landed Pelfrey. That's just me, though. I would understand Williams' reasoning for such a decision, but ultimately, I'd rather maintain both pitchers. How he may figure it, a player of Crawford's value is worth the addition of Pelfrey at the expense of Brandon. He's the protypical leadoff hitter. Once more power develops with plate discipline he'll be --without debate -- the best LF in the game. What I would disagree with unloading McCarthy, even for Crawford, because we're hardly in a better position pitching wise. Sure, we may have our #1 starter, but there's still several positions below him left empty. They're easier to fill but expensive to assemble. We would honestly have to put a lot of faith in Broadway making it to the majors by 2008, and perhaps one more pitcher emerging as well. Say what you want about Vazquez's overall numbers, he held the ability to dominate any ballclub. Without him and Brandon in the rotation -- and Garcia/Buehrle as potential FA past next year -- 2008 may not be too pretty. Don't forget ol' man Contreras and his cranky back and cramped legs every start. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) What if Pelfrey was now in the Sox system, and Mac was dealt for Crawford? It would be much easier to accept McCarthy's departure if Pelfrey were acquired. I'd go as far to say it's one of the few reasons I'd ever consider dealing Brandon. If you were to create an equation of LF +SP, it's obvious McCarthy + Podsednik/Sweeney/FA is Personally, I'd rather have both McCarthy and Pelfrey available. Those two atop the rotation would be beneficial in a few years when we may need to acquire a starter from the FA market. Let's say VAzquez is traded for Pelfrey. It makes practical sense to hold onto him and McCarthy because if any starter is injured a starter is available from within. An additional benefit is between GArcia/Buehrle, if Williams is intent on signing Buehrle longtime he could possibly trade Garcia midseason. Get something of value for him. It's fricken perfect -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) Florida is smart enough to realize that the White Sox might sell Anderson low right now while he's still young and has a ton of room for improvement. I just keep hoping the White Sox aren't dumb enough to do so. Well, if we are to believe rumors across town, they're seriously considering Rowand as our CF for next season. If Rowand is a White Sox next season and/or McCarthy is traded that'll be about it for my sanity. I'll be convinced Guillen has brainwashed Williams. For good measure they'll probably trade one of starters for crap because the team demanded we eat several million of the contract -- and of course, we didn't.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) Has anyone seen Donnie Darko (I'm sure)... has anyone seen Donnie Darko Director's Cut? The former is hard to understand....the latter makes MUCH more sense... that could be because I've seen the movie 6-7 times, though. Director commentary fit everything together. I don't know your interpretation, but most people --including myself -- seem to believe that Gyllenhal avoiding the airliner's engine tampered with the natural order of the universe. He was supposed to die, and because he averted death, the entire fabric of space was jeopardized. Anothere explanation I hear people mention is the entire film was merely a prophetic dream, and Gyllenhal smiled in his bed because he was relieved it wasn't real. I'm going to be rather prophetic myself right here and guess you bringing Donnie Darko is entirely due to the latest XBOX360 commercial featuring the REM song. I can't be the only one who heard it during the promo for "Gears of WAr" and immediately thought of the movie.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) Why? Because Florida's not stupid, that's why. If Florida is monitoring Anderson, that's a good indication as any he shouldn't be traded. I notice how the article mentions Chris Young as well.....

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) He had a nice steady progression in the minors in terms of innings pitched but that was ruined with us using him awfully out of the pen. I was just comparing McCarthy's gradual progression with Buehrle and Garland. It's pathetic really how this organization mishandled Brandon. May have set him back two seasons. We can't assume he'll be able to endure 170IP again. I wouldn't be shocked if they limited him to around 150. If Cooper/Guillen/company have any intention of avoiding arm troubles, they can't expect 200 innings. Time to use the bullpen which we've neglected the last two seasons. McCArthy's misuse last year is primarily why, going into next season, Haeger is more valuable than perhaps anyone in our bullpen. He'll be the one responsible for continually bridging the gap when McCarthy (after pitching five innings) leaves a close game. It should happen quite often too if they're serious about monitoring his arm. I'm under the belief Haeger should literally be abused. If he pitches under 110IP it's only because Guillen doesn't use him the first two months or he's completely ineffective. A knuckleball delivery is about the most fluid you'll find in baseball. Hell, Wakefield has had more rib injuries than arm injuries in nearly 15 years of service.

QUOTE(quickman @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) For what its worth and I have not posted here in awhile. I believe Mike North is George Offmans source. Today Mike North (at around 6;10 this morning) reported that his sources and he says they are very reliable and credible within the sox org have claimed they are hot after Visquel (who is almost as old as I am but solves the leadoff spot) and Rowand. It is believed that Rowand is tops on their list as both KW and JR are big advocates. Take it for what it is. Quite frankly I would love it. I hate Andersen, always did, always will. Just reporting what I heard. Now I will just let you youngsters fight it out for how great andersen will become. I am sure you all know. I could live with Vizquel. It makes sense, as he could be a good addition atop the order while playing solid defense and producing consistent offense. Rowand?......not so much. I'd be more open to trading Anderson if he were already given a fullseason of consistent AB's to prove himself. Atleast 500. Guillen benching him every other day doesn't help. If by the end of the 2008 season it's obvious Anderson is another bust prospects, THEN Williams can reacquire Rowand. Just give him an opportunity. And if this logic just falls by Williams and he's intent on picking up Rowand, how about adding someone he shouldn't have let go--Fabio Castro? He would be useful in our bullpen alongside Cotts and Thornton.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) Trading one of our starting pitchers for prospects would be a major mistake if we don't have another move in mind. The American League is getting stronger by the second, and we need to start adding and not subtracting major league talent. Detroit, Cleveland, Minnesota have built themselves from within, and outside due to favorable trades involving prospects. These teams are growing stronger because they've invested time and patience into the development of players. Lance Broadway, Kyle McCulloch, Oneli Perez are probably our top three pitchers entering next season. Two are mere clones of one another, Perez is a AA reliever. Wouldn't it be smart to have some sort of contigency plan available within the next several seasons if starters seek the FA route? Crawford doesn't help us much there. You should know as well as everyone else our offense was hardly the problem last season. Was it Balta or Tlak that posted a grid detailing how our offense in 06' was, contrary to belief, more consistent in scoring runs than 05'? There were fewer 0-1 runs games, higher output, less inconsistency all together. It was our pitching in 2006 which should carry a high percentage of blame. This area of the team should be the primary focus of Williams' trades.

Up until a recent special of Cook's on HBO (Vicious Circle) I've never seen his act. I can't say I was too impressed. He comes off as, well, the ghey. Anyone relate to his experience of having a "good cry" every once in awhile? He literally spent five minutes explaining this routine. I felt embarrassed just watching it on TV. You ever sit through a Family Guy skit where sometimes it continues WAY beyond the point of comic value? A particular episode which comes to mind is Stewie watching Will Ferrel at a theater, then spending several minutes traveling to his house, only to yell at it. This is essentially the same experience as watching Cook. Somtimes its funny, sometimes it isn't.

Gammons - Boston won bidding with 42 million Sports Illustrated - http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/base...drew/index.html So, Boston just has 55+ million laying around this offseason? HOw the hell can they afford this?

I didn't even notice it, but Hester did the little jump-shot move after returning the missed FG. Awesome. This was an article I found regarding the 'move' from last week: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/468765p-394481c.html

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) Jones with the jumpshot..... Ha, teams will continue mimmicking their little celebration following every loss.
-
YES!!!! LOL. I was yelling for Hester to begin running his ass down field.
-
HOW DO YOU MISS THAT? Unbelievable. That's pathetic, really.
-
Bad challenge Lovie. Although the officials did allow a play to stand on the field which was obvioulsy false. The defense needs to begin blitzing Manning. That was the first one I"ve seen in atleast 10 minutes. We can't just continue to sit back and assume a pass pay, allowing Tiki to run through.
-
TErrible calls officials. You've f***ed up twice thus far.
-
Unbelievable turnaround this second half. At this rate, we're only losing if there's an offensive crucial turnover or Tillman is burned covering Burress. Uh oh. Spoke too soon. I'm surprised Giants didn't attempt a two-point conversion.
-
If Alex Brown didn't have a chokehold around his neck he would have destroyed Manning.
-
God dammit Gilmore. Jones would have went right through the tackle.
-
About time for some good luck.
-
Uh, I don't know if he actually did cross the endzone.
-
Are you kidding me............. WITHIN TWO YARDS OF THE DAMN ENDZONE!!!!!
