  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) When we traded Miguel Olivo, Jeremy Reed, and Michael Morse for Freddy Garcia, I guarantee that most people were saying the deal was in Seattle's favor. Prospects are prospects. We needed a lefty #3 hitter. We all knew this all of last season. Now we have the best DH in baseball. if you were around here during that trade, you'd know what you said is exactly right
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) Cheat summed up my feelings (that I couldn't put down in words) in his blog entry at SouthSideSox: I don't mind giving up Haigwood. He seems like a nice prospect, but you're going to have to give up more than Aaron Rowand to get Jim Thome. That's fine... But Gio too? Eventually we're going to need another league minimum, cheap option for our starters. Right now, the rotation is on the cusp of being really expensive, with Contreras and Garland due big raises in the coming years. I'll digress, and say I'm going a bit overboard on my Gio love, but losing him hurts. A lot. I'd say it hurts more to lose Gonzalez than it does Rowand. BTW -- I'm sort of hoping they don't resign Konerko, but go after someone else (Giles. Giles. Giles.). Konerko and Thome seem to have the same sort of baseball skills, with the edge going to a healthy Thome. I just don't think Konerko will be worth his contract. Thome, I can deal with -- $7 million a year, that's a bargain. Any ill feelings I have towards Kenny would be immediately washed away by signing Brian Giles. You're a different kind of fan than me (ie: smarter ) and i respect all the shenanigans that come out of your mouth
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) I think when it comes to starters we are done. We might aquire bench depth, but the Sox starting line up is set IMO. i agree with that for the most part, but I also think we'll go after pierre. If that falls through, we'll sit still.
  4. you can cross off crawford and ichiro from that list.
  5. so the cubs are actually planning on concentrating on baseball this offseason? interesting...
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) ..... :puke keith, i know your upset about giving up both prospects, but you gotta think in the win now attitude KW still has. Adding Thome and hopefully keeping konerko, we have an absolute stud of a lineup next year and I honestly can't see us not being WS favorites. Yes, i know stealing these kids from the farm is going to hurt in the future, but I gotta agree with the lets win it now...AGAIN attitude KW is going for.
  7. Just reading this thread got me thinking, how long has it been since us sox fans have had players that have meant so much to us? Where we were honestly dissapointed and felt bad to see a player go when he obviously was very happy here. I think it speaks wonders about this era of white sox
  8. aaron and mark are/were my favorite sox. Once i got past arow being gone, this is a great trade for us.

    QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Thome is a better defensive 1B than Konerko. People forget that Thome, when healthy is good with the glove. hopefully thome won't be playing 1st base for us.

    if any male member of this board votes for mittens, they should be immediately banned.
  12. QUOTE(scotty22hotty @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) Arow was our best OF false
  13. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) A guy on Mac Jurko and Harry had an idea of going to Crawford or Gathwright instead of Pierre.....which either would cost a lot more than Pierre though... tampa just gave crawford a contract, they're going to build around him, no way this happens.
  14. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) I also think Borch should atleast get another look.... his defense is fairly solid and if he can hit 250 and get 20 + hrs...it wouldn't be terrible. the borchard ship here sailed long ago.
  15. QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) kalapse, i am a huge aaron fan as well, but it is hard for me to come around on this trade. what has made u change your mind a little? i need to know so i can come around on this trade what exactly don't you like about the trade........besides your man-crush on rowand ( i have one too )
  16. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) On Haigwood and Gonzalez's inclusion--Williams better be preparing himself to structure long term deals for Garland and Contreras (dependent on this season). Don't expect production from the minors in the pitching department for quite awhile. that's a good point flash.
  17. i love arow so god damn much, but honestly how can you not like this deal?
  18. i'll still be wearing my arow jersey w/ the world series patch on opening day next year.
  19. Alright, i just got back and trying to sort all of this in my mind, but on the surface this looks like a very solid deal. Arow was on my top 3 favorite players, i hate losing him, but this solidifies our team during the offseason. If we don't get konerko, at least we have a backup now. BUT, if we can find the money to resign paulie, this deal is a steal and a half and i can't see how we wouldn't be world series favorites. Thise lineup would be sick with thome and konerko in the middle.
  20. We looked alot more solid today than the past 2 games. We seemed to be able to figure out the zone and work it inside. Dee still looks off on his shot. Oh well, 3-0
  21. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) What are your majors? economics, may be transferring to business adminstration for next year. Whatever it is, i'm only a sophomore and its hard to get anything related to my major yet.
