  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) It's a sad state of affairs, but while the picks are incredibly valuable, how confident are we in the Sox to develop that talent? That isn't a pass for the Sox in anyway, but if we are just going on what the club has shown us the last 15+ years, do we feel confident that the Sox will draft and develop a 3.5 WAR type player with the 35th pick in the draft, specifically on offense? I don't. I like the idea of Upton. His age is very attractive, and I don't see a huge drop of in numbers at least for the first 3 years of the deal. Pitcher- 45% Hitter- 5%
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:33 PM) I get not wanting to lose the draft pick, as that would be a downer. But the Sox want to try to utilize their window during the current primes of Abreu and Sale and Quintana. These guys are amazing RIGHT NOW. They may be peaking now and not be as good 4 years from now when that 2016 draft pick would be contributing to the team. Upton was a 3.6 WAR player in a huge pitcher's park. He was a 4 WAR player in 2014, and he has been a 6 WAR player in the past. This dude just turned 28 a few months ago. He has probably 3 or 4 more years of really quality baseball left in him. Sluggers don't typically hit the market at age 28. Fangraphs crowdsourced him at 6 yrs/$120M. That's fair value for a 3-4 WAR player. And remember, whatever amount of years you would want to give a player, add another year if he's a FA. If the Sox sign him, expect it for 6/$120-125M or even 7 yrs/$135 or something with that 7th year being an option. I agree with you sir. It is a comp pick that we just got a few days ago, are people that attached to it? I would much rather have the 28 year old who hit 15 of his 26 home runs in one of the best pitcher's park. I hope we get him
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:53 PM) Based on what? His lofty .709 OPS? And Trayce and his .850 OPS and impeccable D is a 4th OF, while the declining Melky and his .709 OPS and clownish defense and play is a keeper. I realize Tracy's OPS isn't sustainable, but I'll take a chance that he can at least equal Melky's .709. I have no doubt that at least 1 of Trayce, Erik J or Micah J get traded for a decliner or for some career year that Williams is fawning over. It wouldn't surprise me if they trade all 3. I'm okay with signing Upton, IF they clear out the riff raff. And if it's an alternative to trading for another Williams rent-a-career-year, I'm all over it. Now I have no idea but how many players on the Royals or Mets had an OPS of .709 or lower (looked them up, stats below)? Not every player in a lineup for a playoff team is going to be good or great. I think Melky can be a role player and I expect him to be better next year. He has been here one year and he had an average year. He had a pretty bad start to the year (first two months OPS .557) and he was able to get that up to end the year at .709. Salvador Perez OPS- .706 Alcides Escobar OPS- .614 Alex Rios OPS- .640 Ruben Tejada OPS- .688 Wilmer Flores OPS- .703 Eric Campbell OPS- .607 Michael Cuddyer OPS- .699 Ruben Tejada OPS- .688 You can have good role players in that range that will help you win. Melky also had more RBI's and higher average then any of those players mentioned above. He is valuable.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) I'm really not down on him and much prefer to keep Melky's bat and DH him. Thompson brings much better defensive onto the field, speed and potentially more power than Melky too. The problem is LaRoche isn't going anywhere since its not likely any team is crazy enough to take on his 13M salary so the SOX would have to use him as a bench bat, which doesn't seem likely given his salary. That's why I said trade Melky/Avi. I think losing Melky hurts this team more then trading LaRoche and eating half or more of his salary. In reality Thompson will probably be the 4th OF
  5. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) I doubt there's any takers on LaRoche, its likely he's the DH/1B with Abreu next season. If possible, trade Avi and Melky both ( easier said than done) and roll with Eaton in LF, Thompson in CF, Heyward/Upton in RF and Shuck is the 4th outfielder. I'm not sure why people are so down on Melky. I think he is a piece that we should keep. His offense is better then what Thompson or LaRoche will offer
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 7m7 minutes ago #WhiteSox talking to free agents with QOs attached. Upton is their prime target. Should be an interesting few days. There were rumors at the deadline that the Sox liked Upton. Is RaBBit (poster on here) now a reliable rumor source? Come on Brian, spill the beans!
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:46 PM) Don't forget the QO loss. Also, Eaton is probably better. If it is the one we gained from Jeff's signing, technically we don't lose or gain anything which IMO makes it worth it. But to me you HAVE to get rid of LaRoche or Avi if we sign an OF whichever one you don't trade is probably the DH or Melky
  8. Not going to lie, I am not a fan of having other teams signings in the White Sox part of the website. I would much rather have them separate like they were before.
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) To be honest it doesnt seem like many even care here in the US. What is up with that? I guess its a good thing because fear isnt spreading? It happens way too often, everyone is use to it unfortunately
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 11:27 AM) Looks like an interesting season, but I'm still extremely confused as to the set-up. Seems like extremely unfair with all the mismatches of sexes, etc. They clearly have to have some twists to help normalize things. Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I'm not a fan of having only one of your team members be in the elimination. Not a fan of the setup but I like the bloodlines concept (even though it should be called The Challenge: Cousins)

I need more zombie show talk...
  12. I think the main difference between Dunn/LaRoche/Alvarez is the age. Pedro is still under 30 and is more in his prime then either Dunn or LaRoche when we got them.
  13. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:22 PM) I think that's a solid hire. And if he can keep Kuligowski on staff, that's big. It's amazing what that guy has done during his tenure. Best DL coach in college football. What makes it a solid hire? He doesn't have a resume for a SEC head coach. I don't see that ending very well

    QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) Oh fun....MTV talk again. Mr. Grumpy Gills
  15. We get our own thread! Sweet! Screw the Walking Dead zombie bulls***.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:51 PM) Navarro will have to be facing some righties or Avila will play 80% of the time. Well he is a switch hitter so I am sure he will
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 02:22 PM) This conversation happens every year. She looks way bigger then before. Even my fiancee noticed rather quickly.
  18. I think we have upgraded our offense at the catcher position from what we had and I am excited about it. Maybe I am just excited for a new face at catcher and I don't have to watch Flowers miss a 92 MPH Fastball right down the middle on a 2-0 count ever again
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) Fun stuff. Looks like both CT and Zach are going to be a part of this, that'll be fun. I'm happy Cara is back too. Cara looks like she has been locked in a weight room

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:54 AM) I took your advice and looked at the app store. Found one called Next Episode. It's free, but there's a Pro option for $1.99. I upgraded, and it's worth it. I think the best feature is What's Next. It will tell you when the next new episode of every one of your shows will be on. Thanks for the info. Maybe mine is only an android app.
  21. 20-0. There is no way they can win every game on their road trip
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 12:06 AM) I want proof that we are not just acquiring guys (like Baltimore used to do) and will be out of the race in June. We need to make some moves to acquire real ballplayers. OK we dumped Flowers. Now we need a GOOD catcher and one who can hit .270 with 24 homers and throw out a runner or two. Do those grow on trees? Are there even any catchers out there that do that?
