Pick one: Jose Abreu or Chris Sale
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) Sale, easily. 25 years old versus 27 years old. Starting pitcher vs first baseman - another easy choice. Getting a good first baseman is fairly easy. Getting a good starting pitcher is always difficult. The nature of projecting a pitcher versus a young hitter. There was rarely ever a doubt that Sale would be good because his stuff is so evidently great. He can throw 100 with a funky motion and has deceptive, nasty off-speed pitches. Everything thrown for strikes. Abreu has all the tools to be a great hitter but lots of guys do. Lots of guys hit like a great hitter for a long stretch of time and then fall off the wagon. Track record. Sale has been consistently a top 5 pitcher in his position in the major leagues for three seasons now. We have 90-some games for Abreu, total. Not even a minor league track record to fall back on. Abreu is as easy to project as Adrian Nieto is. While picking Sale over Abreu risks the possibility that Abreu is the next Frank Thomas, the risk of Abreu's talent upside is minimal because you're choosing one of, if not the best pitcher in baseball over him. Injury risk. Sale clearly loses here, but at this point he's done enough to make me feel comfortable that it at least is not a foregone conclusion that he has a big problem. The fact that his little bouts of soreness have been in the elbow are also encouraging because I'd be much more worried about major shoulder surgery. Don't forget that Abreu has teased us with foot troubles himself, the sort of injury that plagued guys like Big Hurt. Sale's age plays in here, too, because he could go down with TJS tomorrow and still be up and running at 26 or 27 years old. A lost season for Abreu cuts out some extremely valuable prime years, while Sale arguably hasn't even reached that stage of his career yet. Luckily, my team has both of them for a long time and on decent contracts. Question with bold; How many good starting pitchers are out there and how many good 1B are there?? I am pretty sure there are way more good SP then 1B Obviously there aren't many on the level of Sale or Abreu

Pick one: Jose Abreu or Chris Sale
Probably Abreu. It is easier to find an ace then it is a hitter like Abreu IMO. It is tough to find either of them but I think finding an ace pitcher to replace Sale would be easier to find then finding a 1B that hits like Abreu. Luckily we don't have to choose though

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) Wonder if they get reallly aggresive and call up Jarrett Casey who has been fantastic at 3 different levels so far. Only 7 innings in AAA though. On the year he has a 1.59 ERA with a BAA of .189. Only 2 HRs given up in 56 innings....Kind of a nobody his previous 4 years. Sounds good to me. Bring it

8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:15 PM) He has started 7 games against lefties this year. 4 of them were in those 2 weeks. Why couldn't Robin start someone else those games?

8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) and the guys he signed that are no longer on the roster or are just a burning pile of trash like Belly. His signings were bad.. But still think this bullpen would be better if stayed healthy

8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:05 PM) If Hahn deserves one thing its a standing ovation for this pen. Boy did he royally screw it up this year. Well he was kind of counting on Jones and Lindstrom.. And Putnam got hurt who was solid

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) It was a lock someone was going to mention Rienzo as the answer. Never said he was the answer.. Was saying you might as well of put him in with how bad the bullpen is.. Not saying we would have won the game if Rienzo would have came in instead of Guerra or Thompson..

8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) Then why complain? Because we are tired of this s***ty bullpen?

8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:59 PM) And he's hitting .240 against righties. That's closer to what his total would be if Abreu hadn't spent time on the DL. I highly doubt that.... How many lefties did he face in the 15 or so games Abreu was gone?? And even if there was a lefty on the mound that doesn't mean he had to play.. I guess you can blame Robin for his average.......

8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:57 PM) Pretty sure puttin Rienzo in would be giving up on the game. So is everyone else except Petricka

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) With Dunn's number of ABs, .245 vs .227 is 5 singles. You are going to base your hatred of a player based on 5 singles? You think I hate Dunn because he is hitting .227 this year?? That is his highest average since being on the White Sox....

8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) Because you have to try to conserve your use of the bullpen from time to time. When Robin yanked guys for walking hitters and giving up runs and the game went 14 innings, it was a fireable offense on here. He gave you one inning that wasn't exactly a clean inning, you take it and quit pressing your luck with an unproven pitcher.. It doesn't really matter because I am sure whoever came in next would have let up a run

8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:54 PM) Because Belly is the next man out lol It doesn't even matter anymore lol..

I guess Robin has given up on this game.. I am surprised Rienzo wasn't brought in for the 6tth innin

Why did Thompson come out for another inning?
-
8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
Also if Dunn was hitting .245 or .257 I would have no issues with him except for his K rate

8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) Batting 6th or 7th he'd be fine. Look at the A's, who have the best offense in baseball.. Brandon Moss0 -.257/.336/.497 Josh Donaldson- .246/.331/.463 You can have a really good offense with guys like that in your lineup... I wish he would bat 6th or 7th, been asking for that the past 3 years... I get he isn't the problem with the offense but still want him replaced
-
8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
Alright guys I get it... My stance still stands though, he sucks Gordon sucks worse though

8/3 Game-thread- Quintana vs. Gibson. 1:10 CSN
I can't believe people are trying to back up Dunn. And I can't believe people want him back next year.
