Hahn is getting blasted because of his over confidence with things. Telling the fans you've planned for this free agency for two years and this is the year to strike, then failing, is on him. Asking the fans for trust again during this free agency and failing is on him. He knew Jerry wouldn't go to 300, so he should have kept his mouth shut.

And this comes back to points already made that you are ignoring. If Hahn kept his mouth shut fans would be b****ing about how the Sox didn't go after these guys.

Too many fans took the words from the front office as well as twatter "insiders" and read into it what they wanted to hear. In fact it's still going on.

Totally agree with this, but especially the first paragraph.  I would also point out that Rick worked his way up from the bottom of baseball, and spent a number of years having teams trying to poach him from the White Sox, so he even knew this when he was made GM.

Absolutely! And to add to that, Hahn has KW and JR over his head that can nix any deal Hahn makes but also tell Hahn to make a deal Hahn may not agree with ( I'm not gonna go there ;) ).

Hahn has been known to be a shrewd negotiator and even praised by many on this board including myself. All the sudden now he isn't so shrewd? IMHO, there's more than one chef (Hahn) in the kitchen of these negotiations.

This is absolutely fair.  We keep talking about Rick and Kenny, but this number is going to come directly from Jerry and the board, as they know what is means for the franchise going forward.  This doesn't happen without Jerry authorizing it.

Same point you were making about the " water carriers". Hahn and KW work within the guidelines determined by their boss. They are employees of JR and like any other job in life, employees are paid to do what they are told.

This doesn't excuse Hahn and KW for past trade and free agent signing debacles but when it comes to spending 300m+ on a free agent, JR has the final say, period. This should be obvious since JR sat down at the Harper/Boras table last November to get an idea of what they were looking for.

  4. Don't do a thing. Since it's a development year and assuming Eloy solidifies himself in one of the corner OF spots, let jay/Engel keep CF warm and see what Palka has to offer. In the mean time play the waiting game to see who comes up first from the minors.

    They got Realmuto and Arrieta.

At least they got Realmuto, Robertson, and Cutch so far. Bryce would make their off-season perfect, but they were already a competing team. Adding those guys should get them to the 88-90 win territory.

Im referring to how their fan base feels about not landing one of Machado or Harper.

Pretty much my reaction. I just laughed and said so soo Sox. I honestly think Hahn knew since soxfest what was gonna happen. Go check his interviews. I got blasted for it... And there it is...

Ha ha we should sit down one day and drink our sorrows away with White Sox koolaide. :D

I dont are anyone going crazy, so there is no issue with people controlling emotions. Your post insinuates that people shouldn't be emotionally involved with the team as there are real life things to worry about.

And yes, it does good to complain. If it didn't, Hahn wouldn't be on a damage control tour. Sox fans have never tried to embarrass the org, we just don't go to the games. Now that money is going into their pockets no matter what, not attending games doesn't work. The White Sox did the rebuild in the first place because the fans wanted it. They've changed how they've operated because the fans wanted it. Now we just need them to spend on quality and not quantity.

And when Harper signs with a team not named the White Sox you will see how all the b****ing has done no good. That is what I'm getting at.

With all due respect, you have nearly 10k posts in 5 years on a Sox message board. You are emotionally invested whether you see it or not. I invest heavily financially in this team for myself and my family. They ask for my money and my emotional support nearly every day. So, when they don't hold their end of the bargain, I will hold them personally accountable. Of course we all know they fail in FA, but they damn near promised us things are different now. Hahn specifically asked for our trust again and it backfired.

Never said I wasn't emotionally invested, just that I am in control of my emotions. Stomping ranting raving kicking screaming like toddlers will not do a damn bit of good. Its never once worked with JR since he took ownership so to think it will do any good now is being delusional. This should be obvious to everyone.

Cubs fans got pissed and look what happened. They brought in Theo and have a great team for a decade. Owners listen when fans get angry and hurt their bottom line and reputation. Owners don't listen when fans are quiet and passive.

If you're going to bring the cubs into this then you win the internet for the day. I'm not about to sit here, on SoxTalk, discussing the cubs.

Tell ya what. Go protest outside the park and give the owners hell blasting Twisted Sister and see how much of a shit they give.

I'm never letting my hopes get high again for a big signing. And for anyone who does, I will refer them to the Machado thread.

Honestly, no one should until there is a new owner.

Exactly. History has shown this would be the most likely outcome with the current owners. This is also why I'm not taking shots at Hahn and KW because in the end their handlers determine the allowance Hahn and KW have to play with.

And ill be honest, there are much more important things in life worthy of getting emotional over.

Well, that's why we get treated like this. We need to take it personal and not just shrug it off. Accountability is necessary in sports to keep owners trying to win.

Im just not willing to get emotionally charged up over something that's out of my control. If people want to rant and rave, go for it and get it out of your system if it makes you feel better. But know this, it won't make a damn bit of difference to the owners regardless of what people think.

I think he means it's only so much pissed we have left in us.

    That would make sense. :)

I never really had my hopes set too high so it was very easy for me to take the bad news and move on. I literally shrugged my shoulders when I first read Machado signed with SD.

I get being mad at the FO, but taking it out on guys like Yolmer and TA is ridiculous and unwarranted.  These guys have done nothing but play hard since they came to the Sox.

Exactly. It's childish. Some "fans" are just plain idiots.

  13. For me, no it's definitely not the worst off season ever. The worst in recent memory would be the 2014/15 off season when the Sox paraded Samardzija, Cabrera and Robertson at Sox fest and being proclaimed the off season winners. Then went out and finished 10 games below .500.

It's funny you say that, but I am the one person who has been right about this process at every single step of the way.  All I heard two years ago were how to loyal Sox fans were, how all they wanted was a direction,  and that they wouldn't abandon the team any more than they already had. Even before they came in 2nd on Machado (like I spent months before this off season saying they would) and the outrage machine kicked into high gear in the last few days, the team was down HUGE in the last two years after doing exactly what they supposedly wanted done.

This is the same franchise it has always been.  A lot of people spent a lot of time convincing themselves that it was now different,  despite all of the franchise history to look at. People are mad because they fell for it. I spent years telling you all this wasn't going to be the Cubs rebuild, but no one wanted to hear it. Get out of your feels for a while and pay attention.

Yep. I was also in the " don't get your hopes up" camp. I think you and I both expected a boring off season and unfortunately it turned out to be true. A 100 loss team is just not an attractive place for a big free agent to sign and having an owner that will only go so far financially doesn't help either.

It was easy to see how people were picking and choosing what and who they believed in accordance to what they wanted to hear. It's why I made a few comments along the way about how the Machado thread would be a great psychological case study.

I for one am happy as hell White Sox baseball is back and look forward to this season. :gosox1:

Confirmed that Middleton was there to to meet Harper/Boras in Vegas...hopefully he pulls a Kraft and gets arrested to Bryce has to disassociate himself from the Phillies and JR, facing a fan revolt, has no choice but to sign him.

If Sox fans continue jumping off the ledge in droves there won't be enough left for a revolt. Maybe angry mob action but that's about it.😉
