The Nats just don't make sense for him. But they have a window so they could be going all out.
-
Nats seem to have some momentum now. Heyman talking about them now. @JonHeyman Nats showed interest in Upton but at 3 years. With harper/werth, hard to see how J-Up fit at all. Nats consider everything

I haven't seen anything about the Nats as a front runner. They seem to be popular right now but that could be by design.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) And it should be. This team is stuck in the middle & makes two makes that tells fans they are going for it & then won't pony up for a game changer like Cespedes. Makes no real sense. I just want a direction for sure. Either rebuild or go for it. Now that they've added Lawrie and Frazier to take advantage of a couple of years of this cost controlled core, they need to pony up.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:04 AM) In terms of media reports, all signs point to the Nationals wrapping this up soon. We'll see. ???

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:44 AM) Anyone think this is going to get resolved today? This is getting annoying. It's nearing a conclusion if it's reported that there's 3 finalists.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) What was pissing me off this morning was the negative talk on the radio with Mully and Hanley. It all stemmed from what Dave Cameron from fangraphs said about the Sox next year. He said that the Sox are pretty much a bad team no matter what they do with Cesepedes because the back end of the rotation "sucks", they have no shortstop and that the lower end of their roster is terrible. While he may be correct the radio guys were jumping on it and riding into their Cubs land joy. The Cubs are great at everything and the Sox are terrible and hopeless with everything. I can't listen to that crap. It's all "Cubs are great and the Sox are hot garbage."

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) I've been thinking this for the last week or so. I think Roc Nation is trying to get the Mets involved, but they dont have an offer that beats the Sox and the Sox know it. That's why the Nationals have been brought into the whole thing, to make the Mets feel like they need to invest in Cespedes to stay atop the division. The Nationals have Werth at $21 million/year in LF, Revere and Taylor in CF, and Harper in RF, where is Cespedes going to play? That was my question about the Nats. Where would he play? That's why I believe the Mets report on the offer not being great.

QUOTE (TheCut87 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Bob nightengale said on mlb network right before I left the house that he expects Cespedes to go to the Nats at they have the best offer out on the table right now....kinda contradicts that NY reporters tweet Ok. I wonder if the sox are using Bob to downplay them so they can try and strike a deal quietly.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) I would be skeptical of any message coming out of NY since their agenda is obviously seeing him back with the Mets. Well since they're in the NL East with Nats I'm sure they hear things regardless of their agenda or what you think it is.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) I don't have access to Twitter right now. Is this guy well regarded as far as baseball news goes? Covers the Mets. mets.com 15K followers

@devinlintaoNY Early morning news: The #Nationals offer is not a good one, #Mets and #WhiteSox could make an offer by day's end.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) Hawk never said that . He said it would take " a lot of heat " off Avi. Why do people make things up ? To fit an agenda?
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:34 AM) They aren't only offering 3 years. Why do people keep believing this? I didn't say I believed it. I just said I had a hard time believing IF they offered that. I think the Sox are at 4 years and he wants 6.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) i am just wondering, i am not ranting, starting an argument or instigating anything. i am wondering if this was just posturing from the sox so they can go to soxfest and say, well we tried and we couldn't get it done, but we did try. 3 yr contract..... now on a side note, i have always been indifferent on the sox getting one of the top 3 of'ers. it would have been nice. but my opinion was they will never pony up the cash to get it done. I think Hahn is smart enough to know that "hey sorry fans we tried!" won't fly. They're overdue to give out their first $100 million contract.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) lol, says the guy with three consecutive posts CF12-ed Pssh...it wouldn't be scotch it'd be bourbon thank you very much

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:12 AM) Just putting it in perspective...kind of pathetic that we're going to be fortunate to come out of this with Austin Jackson after all the hype and build-up. According to Harrelson, the presence of Frazier in the line-up alone will make Avi a 30-30 threat again. Put down the scotch Hawk.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:12 AM) Just putting it in perspective...kind of pathetic that we're going to be fortunate to come out of this with Austin Jackson after all the hype and build-up. What uninspiring answer to the Upton signing that'd be.

I just have a hard time thinking the sox are a finalist only offering 3 years. I could see the mets because they were just in the World Series.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 07:33 AM) Smart money says cespedes gets a 5-yr deal (at least). Plenty of interest there. https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/690147759018643457 My thought all along. Hope we still get him but wouldn't shock me if some team swooped in. Sox won't look good with this 3 year offer stance.

Burn that bridge when it comes to it in regards to Abreu. We need to capitalize now.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:59 AM) http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14615525...ngton-nationals Offer to Cespedes is smaller than what the Tigers gave Upton (surprise, surprise)... 5 different teams in 18 months, pretty crazy. Smaller offer because Upton got 6 years. No one is offering 6 to Cespedes surely.
-
I just don't see how the Nats could get him. Where would they play him? Platoon revere with Werth? It'll be intriguing if they get Yo.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 10:49 PM) The fact that this thread is titled anything "per Rabbit" tells me Soxtalk has officially lost it. Per Roger Rabbit.

It would be an exciting offseason to get Lawrie, Frazier and Cespedes and still have 3 top 50 picks in the draft.
