I've always been fine with trading for CarGo but not for anything significant now. He's only on a 2 year deal. But he will decline and already is. I've put my fandom of CarGo aside.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 06:46 PM) with no offense, i just don't buy that. i think that if the sox gets someone who can help the team.... maybe not the way cespy can, but still help the team in a long run. i honestly am thinking the fans, esp after today, the fans will not be angry if the numbers are so out of whack and the sox walks. just my opinion. Who? Because I don't agree with that. The sox have been long rumored for Cespedes. It'll be a letdown if we don't get him and sign someone like Fowler.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 04:30 PM) My friend said DD actually was advising a rebuild to get younger and Illitch did not want to go through with it, they decided to part ways. Makes sense except...DD and rebuilds. Exactly. Could've happened though.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 11m11 minutes ago Sources: #Tigers were negotiating with Cespedes as well as Upton. This screams to me that Cespedes wants more than 6-132 150 is what he wants

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) He also hit .233 last year. I don't know if I'd want another low-average hitter from the NL, especially the Nationals (Dunn/LaRoche) I said I'd be fine either way. Hasn't been on a steady decline the past couple seasons? Man I can't believe he turned down a $107 million.

@bnightengale The #Marlins have no interest in signing Cespedes, #Marlins prez David Samson says, citing crowded OF

If they add Cespedes I'll be there for opening weekend in Chicago when they open at home.

I still think we need a RHP starter. If we sign Cespedes, who is worth a shot? I know we aren't in on a guy like Gallardo. What's left out there? I predicted Fister awhile ago.

If they sign Cespedes, I'll be flying from South Carolina to Chicago to see this team. As for Desmond, I'm good either way. It won't be a huge deal but would cost a pick.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 03:34 PM) This could be true, or it could be the White Sox feeding Levine with being a "finalist" so when he signs with another team, they tried. I have been on record the half assed approach doesn't work. The we will see where we are at around the deadline and act accordingly. That is conceding games. I never would have dreamed in October they would sign Upton or Gordon or Cespedes, but with all the chatter, if they strike out, I'll be disappointed, but if they get one of the next tier guys, and maybe some additional help, they still will upgrade their team immensely. I hate to agree with Caulfield on anything, but if the did get Desmond and Jackson, on paper, they would have a pretty nice line up. Me too DA. If they wanted to rebuild I'm all good but whatever ya do don't half ass it. Go all in on a rebuild or revamping the team to take advantage of your core. For me, I like that approach. Try and win with your cost controlled young core. If it doesn't work, you can still move them in two years along with Frazier.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) Something weird is up, IMO. The Sox have been cold calling people (not just fans) yesterday & today asking them if they plan to attend Sox games this year. I could be wrong but that doesn't seem like a normal thing to do. MLB Network keeps bringing up the Sox name when talking about Cespedes & today, Nightengale reported in his journal thing that the Sox had been in on Upton before he signed with the Tigers. Most teams are throwing low year offers at this point. At some point soon, a team may offer 4-5 years & he'll probably take it. I'm hoping Hahn strikes soon and gets it done. If they sign Cespedes, all they need to do is look at fan reactions. It would do wonders for the fanbase.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) geeze.... how bout a full statement. so how is not a good hitter, what is your opinion..... stat wise of a good hitter??? Stats don't lie. That's why.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) also lets not forget another level tier 2 type of player. a very good bat. = Pedro Alvarez LOL JFC

So Marlins are in on him and Nats only if it's a short deal.
-
Maybe he'll get less years but his AAV should be in line with Upton.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) Hypothetically, if Cespedes' camp told the White Sox FO that they would accept a deal exactly like Upton's, would the Sox do it? Would you guys as fans be ok with it if they did? Yes. It's not my money and doesn't cost a draft pick.
-
For Detroit, it'll come down to can guys like Cabrera and Martinez stay healthy? How will their rotation and pen perform. Bullpen has been their Achilles heel for awhile now. They've made some additions.
-
MLB.com Tigers beat saying they went for Upton because of age and overall game is different. Gotta give them credit, when they go all in they're all in.
-
Detroit is absolutely up there but gotta play the games.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 11:17 PM) http://www.hardballtimes.com/the-net-value-of-draft-picks/ Another reason following up the loss of Cespedes/Upton with the signing of Fowler would be foolish... Where exactly is that Samardzija compensation pick as of today, btw? Agreed. It's one thing to give it up for Upton but no chance in hell for Fowler. I'll take a big contract with Cespedes and 3 top 50 picks

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 11:34 PM) Succinctly, why I'm not happy: - In a tough division, could have taken advantage of outrageous trade value for our pitching to load up and hope to compete in 2 years. - instead went forward and did get better, but everyone got better. Cespedes/Gordon/Upton offered chance to add 2 all stars in one offseason and legitimately have a lot of elite talent. Instead, our upgrade basically moved us in parallel with other teams in division, did not catch us up. So really, are we any closer to a playoff today than if we had cashed in on our talent? I don't think so. Yeah, FA prices suck, but that's what you pay when you failed your scouting on Avi/Davidson Cabrera, Martinez, Martinez and Upton is nice. That's formidable. Now time for Hahn to answer that.

@jonheyman angels absolutely must sign cespedes. they have mishmash in LF, lack offense at 4 positions. YC had .909 ops vs rhp in '15

QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 10:30 PM) The people complaining about the Sox not signing him is a little silly. But being mad about him going to the Tigers is not. Division rivals getting better isnt a good thing. This
