Any chance our 3rd overall pick is sent to kannapolis by the 19th or at all? Kanny is coming to charleston. I'm going to see Rondon. Was curious if they'd send him there first. This is probably a dumb question but I thought about this the other day, if our 3rd pick, for example, was Kolek. And he didn't become a starter but became a lights out closer like Rivera and stayed with us like Mo did NY, would you be ok with still taking him?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) Every positional prospect in the entire system. Ha, was just thinking that.

Haven't started a game day thread in a while. Hope the bats come alive and we can get one.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 12:10 PM) I wish we could have traded a RP for the #39. Even aside from the pick itself, that bonus added to the pool would have been terrific. I can't believe the Marlins shopped around much & I can't imagine they called the Sox at all. Stupid Marlins. Anyone else looking to deal off competitive balance picks before the draft? Please call us. Please. Cubs are looking for one as part of the Samardzja package According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Cubs have "inquired about receiving a competitive-balance draft pick and the accompanying bonus-pool money" as part of a return package for right-hander Jeff Samardzija. This would require that a trade get done by Thursday's first round. Passan suspects that the Rockies, who have a competitive-balance pick at 35th overall, could be the team that the Cubs are talking to. Samardzija was shelled for eight earned runs in three innings Sunday by the Brewers but still owns a shiny 2.54 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 67/23 K/BB ratio in 78 total frames this year. He can become a free agent after the 2015 season.

Can't wait for Thursday.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 10:43 AM) I'm excited about the upside of the pick, but when it comes to young pitchers, I'm not penciling anyone's name into a future rotation until he's made 10 healthy/good starts at Birmingham. Teams always need pitching, and it's the right move in this draft, but it sucks there isn't a Longoria or Bryant this time around--at least not considered that good right now. Oh by no means do I think it's a lock for the rotation. Just going to be nice because we need a great young pitcher to go with Sale, Q.

Come on boys get this one. Sale pitches a no no today.

Should the Sox market Quintana for a trade?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) The irony with Shields is that he's going to be the last dagger in Dayton Moore, even though both Shields and Wade Davis have been great for the Royals. Just like the White Sox in 2000-01, the Royals had a #1 farm system and 9 guys in the Top 100. (A further irony being the main contribution of that depth was to allow the acquisition of Garcia with Reed/Olivo/Morse). Right now, they pretty have nothing to show for it, other than Alex Gordon, who they will lose after next season, Shields after this season...and both Salvador Perez and Yordano Ventura, who were more "under the radar" types who burst on the scene, rather than the pedigreed guys like Hosmer and Moustakas. Even Bubba Starling, a recent first round draft pick still hitting under .200 in the low minors is going back to what worked for him in high school. We thought Walker was bad, but the Royals have had five hitting coaches in less than 2 full seasons. All of this goes to show that even you if you have built a young core of position players, there are no guarantees...especially if you don't have the pitching to go with it. Exactly why I was never on board trading sale or Q. No guarantees that it will work out. -
Ramirez is off to his best start ever. Unless they get great value I'm not moving him due to his ties with the other Cuban players.

Getting excited for the draft for the first time in my lifetime, (26) due to the high pick. I'm good with any of the big 3.

QUOTE (Lillian @ May 31, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) The "silver lining" is that it has allowed Gillaspie an opportunity to demonstrate that he needs to stay on the roster and play every game vs. right handed pitching. And speaking of "lining", that's what he's doing to the ball, virtually every at bat vs RHP, with a .373 .426 .500 .926 line, in 102 at bats. Moreover it's a "hard" .373, with very few cheap hits. He may not be elevating balls, for homers, but he has made a believer out of me. If Davidson had started hitting early, Gillaspie may never have had a chance to prove himself. Oh no doubt. And Davidson is only 22 or 23. So I'm not worried yet. And I like Gillaspie so I'm fine with it. It gives us a good LH bat

Davidson is having an awful year wow.

Garcia still hoping to return this season

I would be stunned if he played in a sox uniform late in the season -

Lol no. We need more pitchers. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 29, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) Anyone other than Aiken/Rodon/Kolek/Nola is a failure. Why wouldn't we get one of the 3? Nola would be a surprise

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 29, 2014 -> 09:53 AM) I was starting to warm to the idea of Kolek until I saw the Brad Penny comp. If Aikens gone, I say Jackson or Hoffman at #11 slot money. Comps are just that comps.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 28, 2014 -> 11:54 PM) Hey this is a Sox winner thread . Post that stuff in Diamond Club My bad lol I only posted it cuz it was cool he hit his own picture on the scoreboard. Can't wait to see some Abreu bombs next week
-
Pads getting whooped tonight. Here's to a weekend sweep
-
Meanwhile in Arizona, Paul goldschmidt just homered and it hit his picture on the centerfield scoreboard. Wow
-
The As just walked off against Joe Nathan. Sanchez had a CG going and the As got a double. Then Nathan came on and gave up a base hit which was odd Castellanos glove. Then Donaldson homered
-
How many walk offs is that now like 6?
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 28, 2014 -> 10:25 PM) I like Kolek the best but will be very happy with one of the top 3. I still never trust these random "sources" when people just throw that out there. It's that time of year. Much like the week leading up to the NFL draft, can't believe s***.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 28, 2014 -> 10:23 PM) Gotta enjoy winning against Cleveland after what happened last year. Also: Hector Noesi now has a 4.33 ERA and 4.38 FIP with the Sox in 35.1 innings. Both Rienzo and Noesi are giving the team a chance to win their starts and that's all you can really ask for from your #4 and #5. They're doing what we need out of those spots what EJ and Paulino should've been doing. If Danks can get on track somehow we might be in contention for a WC
-
Now they enjoy their day off and get ready for SD. Need another sweep because we have a killer stretch coming up
