Trade Watch Rumor
4-5 starts of Gausman could not be all that costly I would be willing to bet He helps stabilize the rotation down the stretch and we do not part with anything we will miss

Trade Watch Rumor
I'm still sticking by my Kevin Gausman rental prediction. It makes sense to acquire a short term solution and add longer terms pieces this offseason.

Could see Adrian Houser making some sense

Trade Watch Rumor
I agree, but why not just acquire a rental like Gausman and address longer term adds in the offseason? He should not be costly via trade

Realistic trade candidates AKA The Lynnsanity Thread
Kevin Gausman could likely be acquired as a low cost rental

I do not think the Sox give up a haul for Lynn. It will likely either be a rental type, or potentially a starter under longer control

All that for roughly 36 starts of a pitcher who turns 34 next May? I will pass We tanked an entire season to select Madrigal and install him as our 2B moving forward. He is not getting traded for a player with limited control remaining, if traded at all.

What should the Sox do with James McCann?
Vaughn was the best hitter in college baseball in 2019, and absolutely will be MLB ready in 2021. I think you are underestimating how good of a hitter he is. Sox are rumored to be considering even calling him up in 2020 if Encarnacion did not show improvement.

Sox are not sinking over $28 million annually into the catcher position, it just is not happening^

What should the Sox do with James McCann?
I love McCann, but I think he will get a multi year offer for starting catcher money this offseason from another club. How much money can the Sox sink into the catcher position as well? As for Vaughn, you absolutely do not trade him at this stage. Encarnacion is gone after this season, and replacing him in house with Vaughn would free up roughly $11 million in payroll. Vaughn is viewed as the long term answer at 1B for the Sox and should be MLB ready early 2021.

I really do not think the Sox are looking to give up that sort of depth for what would be a short term fix. What pitching depth we have will be vital down the line as we have seen how expensive it is to both trade for SP and sign it in free agency. Injuries happen all the time, and Stiever is likely MLB ready at some point in 2021. If we make a move I think it will be for a backend starter

IDK about great starter, but I can see Dunning developing into a solid #4/5 on a true contender, which is invaluable.

Hell no to Dunning and Stiever for 36 starts of Lance Lynn Both of those guys are unknowns, but are each also close to MLB ready and have tons of cheap control

I'd rather not deal Stiever or Collins just yet Lynn would help us down the stretch, but I do not think that trade happens between us and them

I'm ok with that cost. I'd be surprised if Rangers could not get a better offer than that though

A guy like Kuhl should not be all that costly to acquire

For me it's not so much about Heuer, who I like but we have no clue what he will become, but rather Ray has been total crap this season
-
Realistic trade candidates AKA The Lynnsanity Thread
Interesting Ray would be a pure rental, but he has also been pretty awful in 2020 so far. 9 home runs in 27 innings pitched scares me about what would happen at Comiskey. I think I'll pass

This Trout talk is a pipe dream that will never happen That package would not even get the Angels to pick up the phone. Trout is going to finish his career as one of the best ever to play the game. Any theoretical trade package would have to be beyond what you could even imagine in terms of asking price.

As he should be right at the start of our competitive window Beyond the obvious talent, we can easily jettison Encarnacion after 2020 and save nearly $11 million to spend towards pitching by having cheap Vaughn replace him. Young players are not just valuable because of their talent, but because you can pay them peanuts relative to what veterans will cost you. Encarnacion/Cishek/Herrera, heck even Gio Gonzalez, possibly Mazara/Colome coming off the books should theoretically give us a solid amount of payroll flexibility to go hunting this offseason

I cannot imagine Boston trading Benintendi now when his value has tanked

Realistic trade candidates AKA The Lynnsanity Thread
I'll agree with you that the farm depth is certainly lacking due to all of the recent promotions, but Vaughn is more than just a piece. Vaughn is an elite, advanced bat that is not far from being MLB ready. MLB Pipeline has him ranked #17 overall for a reason. He is not a guy they should consider trading with EE likely to be gone after 2020 and Abreu aging.

Trout is not happening, agreed, for a variety of reasons. DeGrom would be a huge add, but I'm sure the cost would be exorbitant. You do not even want to know what the Mets would likely be asking for.

Saw that Would be a poor move to deal that much young pitching for 36 ish starts of Lance Lynn. If we are dangling that sort of package I would be looking for a younger pitcher with more control if at all

So many teams are still technically in the playoff hunt that I do not see there being all that much excitement in terms of trade deadline deals.
