Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
fredmanrique replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would be fine meeting in the middle on a deal both sides could pick apart. Meadows, Keller, Newman, Diaz for Q and Jones They keep Glasnow and Bell, we dont get full value for Jones but we do get Meadows -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) The point was that there is a wider range of players available in January than there is in June/July and that's true. Certainly there's a full spectrum of outcomes that could happen with the players in consideration now and that's worth noting. However, the underlying point that is indisputable in my opinion is the fact that the Sox have a wider pool of players to choose from than they will in July. There are players that could "potentially" help an MLB team in 2017 that are available now like Glasnow. If Glasnow sticks with Pittsburg and becomes a #3 type this year, he's out. Sox aren't getting him anymore. Same could be said with Martes, Albies and potential other headliners. This isn't even considering the risk of Quintana getting hurt, underperforming or having his value flogged down with bad luck in a small sample size (high BABIP, unsustainable HR/FB%, bad defense, etc.). If you're Chris Sale or Kershaw your value won't be touched by a three months of a say, 4.2 ERA, but if you're Jose Quintana...who knows how that affects things. He's not the sexy American with a 98 MPH who's been under baseball fans' microscope for ten years. He's the minor league free agent from Columbia who you're pleasantly surprised hits 93 MPH. He takes the ball every fifth days and uses everything in his repertoire to get people out. At this point, despite his contract and track record, his value is far from fungible. He's more susceptible to a value regression than most of his value equivalents. It's hard to say what the Sox should do without seeing the actual offers, but to me, his value is likely higher than it ever will be and the returns are not going to have the inclusiveness they have now until next November. -
I keep hoping for a mega deal. Whatever it takes to get bregman, meadows or torres included plus more. I'd still be satisfied with Tucker, Martes, Paulino ++ or Bell, Glasnow/Keller, Newman + But, if we neer to add frazier, jones, robertson, melky to these deals, lets do it. Take back bad contracts or pay 80% of frazier or melky or robertson. It is our last chance at a stud hitting prospect to pair long term with moncada and hopefully collins until the next two drafts.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
fredmanrique replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, I agree on Rodon for the most part. However, the boras thing makes it worth keeping 'selling medium' on the table in my mind. If you fully blow it up and hit on 8 out of 16 guys. That is plenty of money for machado and another 60-80 incremental millions to supplement the 2019 roster -

What if quintana goes somewhere that isnt NYY or PIT but all the discussions ultimately send other players to those clubs. Just killing time, a scenario such as this feels nice: Q to Hou: Tucker, Martes, Reed, Cameron Rodon, Robertson to NYY: Rutherford, Mateo, Andujar Abreu, Jones to PIT: Newman, Keller, Hayes -

Torres, rutherford, andujar makes sense and would fit our timeline well. Feels most likely too if meadows is off the table. Need cashman to give in on the untouchable classification, ala moncada -
Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
fredmanrique replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just for fun, since there seems to be the possibility of something huge with Pirates/Mets. To add a layer of why the other teams might do this I am thinking from a framework that solves the Mets and Pirates goals while keeping their top guys such as Meadows and Rosario. This would be a depth haul for the sox. Pirates: Quintana and Nate Jones and keep Meadows/Bell. Mets: McCutchen, Robertson, dump Bruce Sox: Conforto, Nimmo, D Smith AND Glasnow, Keller, Newman, Bruce for 3 months That is 5 top 100 guys and Conforto I would then take Abreu and Rodon to the Cardinals for Reyes, Weaver, Kelly and Bader 2019 (It wont all pan out but): LF, Conforto, CF Basabe/Tilson, RF Nimmo/Bader/Call 3B, Moncada, SS Anderson, 2B Newman, 1B Smith, DH Collins, C Kelly Oh and Reyes, Giolito, Glasnow, Kopech, Lopez, Fulmer, Hansen, Adams, Dunning, Burdi and a lefty or two someday You could legit bid on harper for 35 mil a year with that roster. -

If they add EE, rodgers, their best pitching prospect and CarGo seems fair and practical depending on what we would get from a third team for CarGo. Assume two prospects, one more top 100...? For quintana -
Trade/FA Predictions for Rest of Off Season
fredmanrique replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like anderson, but think we can get a higher ceiling ss like rosario from the mets. Here is what I would like to do assuming houston keeps hoarding and the pirates wont give up glasnow or meadows. Anderson, Frazier to NYM for Rosario, nimmo, wright ( frees up a lot of money for them) Abreu, Jones to COL for Rodgers, pint, fliers Quintana, Robertson to LAD for Bellinger, DeLeon, Verdugo, Calhoun -
This would involve spending a lot of money and still crossing fingers hard on guys like Shields. (What a pointless mostake that was, sigh) I would like to spend this pretend $60 mil in incremental FA money on guys who are performing and still under 32. More of a get overall WAR approach. Also, if this were a last stand for KW and crew (I doubt that it is) there will be one major deal that involves fulmer, adams, etc. - Fulmer, Adams, plus ? for McCutchen (Such a Sox move) - Sign Chapman, Jansen, Fowler and Ramos (Impossible, just an example of what it would take to actually win it all next year given the current situation. And does this team win it all? It would be up to major contributions from Abreu, Shields, Gonzalez, Robertson. ....) It would at least contend with a farewell 170 mil payroll

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) Agreed. Unless Sands absolutely RAKES in Spring Training, I'd have to guess that he's AAA fodder for now. Fowler is just really appealing to me because he has a very good OBP and putting him behind Eaton and in front of Abreu could do wonders for the lineup as a whole. I would prefer Fowler too. But if Ethier represents the opportunity to dump LaRoche or Danks I keep dwelling on how could we make that happen. I realize LA has no baseball need for either of those two but is it possible a deal acknowledges that fact. We receive Ethier and his $38M, LA receives LaRoche+Danks and their $29M + whatever mid-level prospect(s) that makes it worth their time to save $9M, de-clutter their OF, remove the 10/5 rights of Ethier from hanging over their head and provide them with a prospect or two that doesn't set us back terribly. This may be impossible but I'd love to know the LA price to take back both our 2016 contract problems. That turns inefficient money into a 70% solution in RF where Ethier can platoon with Sands, Avi or maybe.... Step 2, Austin Jackson. Keep the picks, improve the D. He can play right or center, which vs. righties moves Eaton to LF and Melky to DH. A chain reaction that improves the OF in an affordable and realistic manner. If we can make those two moves we are still under budget in 2016 from where we are today. Plenty to add Gallardo to replace Danks or if we are being cheap a couple Latos bounce back types.

QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 10:07 AM) If they can make the big splash getting one of the 3 big OF names, they may have to run Avi out at DH vs LHP and LaRoache against RHP. Gives them both the biggest chance to succeed (not a good chance, but still) and rebuild trade value (of which they have little (Avi) to none/negative (LaRoache). Hit them 6th or 7th, it's not going to make or break this team in the 1st 40-81 games if we add Upton, Cespedes or Gordon. Maybe some of these QO guys like Fowler and D Murphy don't sign during the offseason, stay fresh and ready until after the draft. They can always pick the best situation for them in June after injuries happen and standings start to take shape. I wonder if this will start to happen more? Morales was one of the 1st to do this, no? Maybe Avi and/or LaRoache has some trade value by then? Trade them to restock the bottom of our system or clear $$$ (even if it's low level talent or some $$$) and sign someone like Fowler or D Murphy to play OF or DH, move Melky accordingly and go for it hard the rest of the season. It would be a ballsy move for sure, but crazier things have happened. It's pretty clear by now no one is going to give us anything or real value for those 2 right now, so best to try to rebuild value. If they both continue to be unplayable for very long, it's off to AAA for Avi and the street for LaRoache. DH isn't exactly the hardest position to fill, neither is corner OF. We have a DH ready, hurting us in the OF (Melky). I think Rick can fix this, he's just going to have to play it depending on the market, QO Free agents and how things develop with this team in Spring Training and the first 40 games. He can't trade LaRoache and Avi right now apparently, and he can't spend more than he can spend. All in all, at least things are looking up again on the South Side. What I've proposed isn't likely, but it is likely somewhere between Plan D-Z for our White Sox. Merry Christmas everyone. If we add Gordon there is no sense in wasting time with Avi or LaRoche in the lineup. Send LaRoche off to Colorado with $10M and whichever prospect not named Anderson/Fulmer/Adams it takes to get Blackmon coming back perhaps? We may not think our system can pull off that deal but no one thought we could get Frazier and Lawrie for Montas and not much else... 1.) Eaton, cf 2.) Gordon, lf 3.) Abreu, 1b 4.) Frazier, 3b 5.) Blackmon, rf 6.) Lawrie, 2b 7.) Cabrera, dh 8.) Avila/Navarro, c 9.) Saladino, ss

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) Who falls into that category that Garcia could be traded for? I can't think of any. I wonder if we can go to a team with very low payroll like Atlanta and look to dump our 2015 salary-dump contenders (LaRoche and Danks) while offering a flyer on Avi as well as 1-2 legit prospects not named Anderson, Fulmer. If Adams and Danish/Beck, Michalewsi, etc can free up the ability to sign two more guys that 2-3 year window becomes a lot more serious. If they could get creative and dump both those contracts (pie in the sky I know) you'd really be talking about being able to add 2 of the big 3 OF's and/or Maeda. One can dream: 1.) Eaton, CF 2.) Abreu, 1B 3.) Gordon, LF 4.) Cespedes, RF 5.) Frazier, 3B 6.) Cabrera, DH 7.) Lawrie, 2B 8.) Avila, C 9.) Saladino, SS That team becomes middle of the pack defensively too. You rarely see deals like that in MLB but it sure would be nice.

Correction 6-8 prospects headlinedby 2-3 guys proving it early on at the big league level like bogarets
-
Thinking a deal like that leaves plenty of money to spend mid season. Ozuna is simply an upgrade over avi is all, not really the feature component if you add Fernandez to become the best rotation in baseball with no starter making big money. More interested in gordon for what he does to the top of the lineup. Rolling with sanchez is fine if we upgrade massively elsewhere. I just hope they spend 150M or deal everyone to houston/Boston/pitt for 6-8 top prospects, bogarets types. Anything in the middle is an 81 win team with robin at the helm.

I would consider trading the farm for Fernandez, Ozuna and Gordon. The Marlins of all teams may consider it. I dont know who plays short or third after you use Anderson, Fulmer, Adams, M Johnson, Avi, etc. But imagine that rotation along with major upgrades at 2b and rf. Trayce in center, melky to dh. You are going for it with that move and youd have to buy a 3b in FA. Dont love it but desmond? 1. Gordon 2b 2. Eaton lf 3. Abreu 1b 4. Melky dh 5. Ozuna rf 6. Desmond 3b 7. Trayce cf 8. Flowers c 9. Saladino ss More importantly, Sale, Fernandez, Quintana, Rodon, Danks/ E Johnson QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) I think you're right raBBit. Maybe this would be a trade that the Sox would throw Avi into? I know Avi doesn't equate to ALOT more but maybe ( admittedly a stretch) the Marlins consider it since they get a SP (EJ), a 2BBB(Micah) to replace Gordon and an OF (Avi) to replace Ozuna if they trade him. Hmmm, perhaps the Sox work something out for Gordon and Ozuna? Likely the Marlins would want Thompson over Avi in any package, I'm guessing. I found this to be somewhat interesting. "I’d be surprised if they keep him. Loria clearly can’t stand the guy and everybody knows it." http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2015/11/20/marlin...-stand-the-guy/

Our QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 08:57 PM) There's nothing formidable about that team Long time reader, first time poster. If we go the trade sale route then move everyone and lets fill the park by mid 2017 Sale, eaton and robertson to boston for Bogarets, Betts, Swihart, Devers, Bradley Jr (Leaving Moncada out makes this feel plausible ) Abreu and Quintana to Pittsburgh for Glasnow, A Meadows and J Bell. Keep Melky and Danks until the deadline. Let LaRoche rot while melky plays dh for a bit. By 2017 with money to spare: 1. Betts CF 2. Bogarets SS 3. A Meadows RF 4. J Bell 1B 5. Swihart C 6. Melky or upgrade if traded DH 7. Devers or spend money if not ready or M Johnson 3b 8. JBJ LF 9. T Anderson 2B Rodon, Fulmer, Glasnow, Tons of money left to add if E Johnson, Danish, etc aren't viable If Im Pitt or Bos I do these deals. We are not close in 2016 so stink for one year, get a top pick and be thrilled with this team in 2017 maintaining thompson, montas, sanchez, etc as well
