  1. we're cooked. we need lots. we've already gutted much of the farm system. and the wheels are coming off.
  2. Long time Sox fans know this is the organization that traded way Goose Gossage, Terry Forster, Brian Downing, Denny McLain, Bucky Dent, Johnny Callison, Earl Battey and a ton of other good prospects in Get Rich quick schemes. It rarely works. The problem the Sox have is that, unlike the Yankees, if we totally gut the farm system, we won't fix our mistakes by being players in the free agent market. KW is heading into dangerous territory if he keeps trading our best young players.
  3. Braves are as bad as the Yankees at overhyping their prospects. Bruce Chen, Wilson Betemit, Matt Belisle were all supposed to be the Next Great Things. You could throw Klesko and a few others on the list, too. Schuerholz is no dummy. That's why the Braves never stop winning, no matter how many players they lose.
  4. I take that to mean that Sweeney is NOT the guy being offered. perhaps we were offering Chris Young, Brice, Nanita or Spidale.
  5. Got no problem with the idea. I like pressing the action. But the execution has to improve.
  6. Sweeney is 19, one year out of high school. I doubt there are five guys his age in the Carolina League. He started slowly, but I believe he is third in the league in hits. He's probably hitting .320-plus over the last six weeks. Hasn't shown much power, but most guys don't do that for awhile after shifting from aluminum to wooden bats. As I said earlier, I'd prefer to see the Sox trade a much lesser prospect for Catalanatto. Cliff Floyd is OK, but he's not a difference maker. One other thought: I believe Floyd was in Florida with Ozzie for one season. I wonder what the manager thinks about this.
  7. Loaiza has returned to his career norm. Last year was the aberration, not this year.
  8. Floyd's numbers have been in decline. He is certainly injury prone. And I've also read the stuff in the New York papers about him wanting to retire in a year or two. Also remember that he had something in his contract about not wanting to come to the Sox when Montreal was getting ready to dump him. Thought that was strange because I believe he is from Thornridge HS, right? Overall, I'm against this deal. Rather see them pick up Catalanatto -- at a much reduced price. I realize prospects come around all the time. The love Sweeney is getting today is the same love Borchard was getting three years ago -- and nobody would cry is Borchard was in the deal today. But ... I don't think Cliff Floyd, at this point in his career, is worth it. Sooner or later one of these deals is really going to come back to burn us because in the last year we have essentially emptied the farm system.
  9. my bet is it will be Spencer. we need another outfielder. The Mets want him out RIGHT NOW. And we can't just send a pitcher to Pittsburgh for nothing. Can't see how that would fly past the Mighty Commish
  10. Gload ain't much in right field but he CAN pinch hit
  11. What can he do? Who can he bench? Yelling and screaming might work once or twice. But you can't do it every day. We just don't have the horses. Plain and simple
  12. excuse me while I go vomit
  13. very good innning now let's build on it.
  14. nice pickoff good to see we're not the only team with brain camps and nice job by Konerko stepping wide to have a good angle on throw
  15. good job in the field by Willie one of his best games in a while
  16. Willie's value is directly tied to his ability to steal bases. He still has a poor OBP. But when he does get on, the dude needs to steal, steal, steal.
  17. hooray the stolen base equals a run This is the way we HAVE to play.
  18. three times Willie has gone good to see
  19. Harris is fast enough he should be able to steal bases with a high success rate. And he's gone on the last two pitches that were fouled off
  20. i'm for pulling the plug on Schoenweis and putting him in the pen. Diaz is pitching well again at Charlotte. He deserves another chance.
  21. We HAVE to run to score much in this park. don't see any other way
  22. steal a freakin base right handed pitcher DeFelice catching. C'mon Willie
  23. How much longer do you hang with Willie before you pull the plug?
  24. it's very sad. And it's going to get even more frustrating as we trudge along without Maggs and Frank.
