the absolute worst part of this game is that it sets the cubs up perfectly for the World Series Wood will go in Game One Saturday, Prior in Game Two on Sunday. It don't look good, it don't look one bit good. Not even Jose Paniagua could stop the Wrigleys now

Good News from AFL
The Sox are going to have to get at least one big-name free agent to get any ink because the Cubs Media Fest is going to roar all winter long. Sox will be lucky to get a paragraph in the papers and TV won't mention them til spring training.

Cub vs. Marlins Game 6 about to Start
Actually it's Thommy Brennaman. And I pushed the Mute button long ago This is as grim a day as any true White Sox fan could ever, ever imagine. An unwatchable World Series is drawing near.

Good News from AFL
both Neal Cotts and Mitch Wylie pitched well in the Arizona Fall League yesterday Cotts worked five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run. Struck out four. But most importantly, he didn't walk ANYBODY. Wylie pitched 1 1/3 in relief. Struck out two, allowed a hit. Wylie is another guy not far from arm surgery. He could be in the mix for middle relief next year. I believe the higher-ups have always liked his arm.

The 10 White Sox Prospects I'm excited about
What about Jon Rauch? Three years ago he was the minor league player of the year. Then he had shoudler surgery. Sometimes it takes a couple of years to get back. He had a solid, if unspectacular year, at Charlotte. Don't write him off. The sad fact is that other than Rauch, Borchard, Miles, Cotts and Pacheco (who might not be added to the 40-man according to the current issue of Baseball America) most of our best prospects are a long, long, long way from helping in the big leagues.

Farm System Blues
The mets have plenty of groundskeepers. They wouldn't need him. I think the first signal about next season will come on the Robbie decision. If they re-sign him, it means they're taking a shot. If they cut him loose and go with Harris or Miles, we're heading back to The Kids Can Play, The Sequel.

Farm System Blues
at least none in High A ball or higher

Farm System Blues
frankly, I'm intrigued to find out if the Sox will give either Miles or Harris a chance. if Roberto Alomar returns, the answer is NO. If not, either Willie or Aaron has to play second base. I believe Harris will eventually be a decent hitter. But I don't see him as an everyday center fielder. And I haven't seen enough of him at second base to know if he's solid there. As for Miles, the guys has done nothing but hit the last two years at AA and AAA. I assume the question is his glove, range and ability to turn double plays. I'm not opposed to giving him a chance, especially if Robbie Alomar is asking for too much cash. Thoughts?

Farm System Blues
Baseball America has been ranking the top prospects at every position in the minor leagues. So far they've covered catchers, first basemen, second basemen, shortstops and third basemen. It appears that the Sox have been shut out from having a Top 15 prospect at all of those spots. Hardly fatal because Baseball America ranked Jon Rauch and Paul Konerko as its Minor League players of the year. But it's not a good sign of any top prospects at the top levels of the farm system. I would assume Reed will crack the outfield list and maybe Cotts and Honel will make it as pitchers.

BA article on Cotts
Sounds like Cottsie was able to laugh off his long day in the Bronx. that's a plus. Hope he gets the command thing uprgraded and helps next season. going to need him.
-
Kenny Williams
damn the body is hardly cold from this season and we're ready to write off NEXT SEASON, too. I hope not. hell, the Cubs lost 95 games last year. Time to get to work and win the most winnable division in baseball. enough building for the future. That's garbage.
-
A big "What IF"
anything is possible If the marlins can beat SF three in a row, they sure as hell can win three straight agaisnt the Cubs wouldn't have matter if Prior or Bob Gibson pitched yesterday, the Cubs would have lost
-
Possible SS
most have as many. Some have more. Others have fewer. The problem the Sox have is, if they're not going to be able to overcome their mistakes by signing higher priced players and retaining their top players, they don't have the same margin of error with draft picks. Obviously, there have been hits -- Buehrle in the 38th round, Crede in the fifth or sixth round, possibly Rowand. But when I think back to McDowell, Ventura, Thomas and Fernandez, it's been awhile since we have drafted an impact player similar to one of those guys.

ozzie got some love from the guys on fox last night. other than experience, which is a big exception, he's got more plusses than the other candidates. fresher face than Bell or Francona. livelier personality than Gaston. fan favorite. relates well to players. and he'd probably work cheap.
