Both teams are now 10 games over .500 and playing their best baseball of the season. It's not the greatest race of all time, but it's as good as Sox fans have had since 1967. There have been far too many years when the drama was over by June 15. The best team doesn't always win in october. Last year the Angels won it all as the Wild Card team. I remember 1987 when the Twinkies won it all. Everybody had conceded the playoffs to Detroit -- and then the Twinkies barely won the West and knocked off Detroit and St. Louis. Hell, in 1983 the Sox won 99 games and the division by 20 games and got their asses handed to them by Baltimore. The Yankees and Mariners both look old and vulnerable. Oakland isn't as strong as it once looked without Mulder. Boston is sizzling, but their starting pitching is questionable beyond Pedro. The AL Central winner could easily get to the world series. If they do, nobody will remember how many games they won in the regular season. The next four days should be a treat. Enjoy them.

let's hope the Sox give us a final three weeks that we'll be talking about 20 years from now this season has been as up and down and all over the place as any I can remember But they have perservered.
