I know this has probably been addressed before, but what is up with the Opening Day followed by off day followed by the final 2 games of the series. No other 3 game set ever uses this schedule. The fans get all amped up then they have to wait for game 2. Seems f***ed up. Also seems like it would throw off the players too...

3/4 GAME THREAD: Spring Training Game ONE

I'm getting the Angels broadcast live on the tele, so I can probably do some PBP for a little bit if people want that... -
Anyway... my picks: ANDERSON-FIELDS AWARD: Paul Konerko DANNY WRIGHT AWARD: Tony Pena PABLO OZUNA AWARD: Sergio Santos (I made up these awards so this can be a pitcher too, I declare)
-
Startin' a thread I never started haha....
-
So who are everyone's nominees for the annual ANDERSON-FIELDS AWARD? It's for the position player who hits around .500 in Spring but it doesn't translate to the regular season. Named after the 2 former Sox players who did it year in and year out. Also there is the DANNY WRIGHT AWARD, for the pitcher who's mechanics looks clean and pitches awesome, followed by forgetting about all of that come April. And finally the PABLO OZUNA AWARD, for the player that comes out of nowhere, hit's .500, makes the teams and actually contributes to the big league team...

Weren't they last, last year? I swear they were....

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) That wasn't his point. You do remember that Pods beat out Derek Jeter for that final spot, right? And A.J. got in the next year through the same process. You contend there aren't that many Sox fans around the country. Well there were plenty out in full force during those two instances. I doubt those were ALL White Sox fans... But lets say that they were, why didn't they come out in full force to get AJ and Pods as starters?
-
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Do you not remember in 2005 when White Sox fans voted in Pods? Not on the original ballot. Pods wasn't a starter. I'm talking strictly starting. But while you bring that up, why can't that same enthusiasm be brought to voting in a starter? What's the difference? Is it the whole, we vote for your NL guy, you vote for our AL guy?
-
The Sox have had plenty of players in the last decade putting up comparable numbers to the eventual All-Star starter, but in the end there were many hundreds of thousand of votes behind. Simple put there aren't as many White Sox fans in the country as we think. We split the city with a hype machine of a nationally covered "lovable" underdog franchise, when in fact, the White Sox are the TRUE under dogs of the city of Chicago. 24 hour sports coverage elevates Yankee/Red Sox/Cub players to national stardom because there are more fans of those teams. Frank Thomas was talented and lucky enough to not have a team on the North Side of town with it's hype machine in full force yet and no internet coverage of MLB Perfect example, Evan Longoria became a STAR last season. For the longest time I thought, there's no way a franchise barely a decade old has more fans than the White Sox to be able to put him in the ASG. It was just because he was in the World Series last season, people know of him that way, I thought. Obviously he was putting up RIDICULOUS numbers in the 1st half, so that helped, but the more I thought of it, the more I realized we just have a very small, very loyal, fan base. I just don't think it's enough to elevate Gordon no matter how good he is. I will be happy to eat crow this season, but it's just my opinion currently...

The Beckham as a National star not just a White Sox star is laughable. I'm sorry, I love the Sox and I love Beckham, but it's NEVER gonna happen. The sad truth of it all is if he were a Cub there would be a hell of a better chance....that's just the way it is, and we all know it. Case in point, I just tuned in the '08 All Star Game, and Fukudome and Soto are STARTERS. Beckham will place 5th or 6th in All-Star voting even if he's hitting .320....
-
I might be confused, but I swear looking at my DirecTV guide, the split squad game on the 6th against the Cubs/Dodgers is on both MLB Network and WGN at the Same Time, but both ames individually. Or it's WGN and Fox Sports West....either way it's confusing and awesome to see both games...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) Sorry dude. When I created it I never would have imagined it would have turned out like this. No worries, man. Like I said I didn't know him all that well, but people I do know, were good friends with him, and I wasn't even talking about the original thread title, just the edit once they found his body....

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) Ok ok... Thanks... We can all commence with the fighting over the DH and s*** now haha

I'm so not the guy to take offense easily, but C'mon with the title of the thread now.... A lot of people I know were friends with him, including my Dad and his Wife...

My usuals: SModcast - Kevin Smith and His Producer/Friend Scott Mosier, just BS'ing about anything. Probably would only recommend if you're a KS fan Adam Carolla Podcast - Though recently he hasn't had anyone interesting as a guest, and has done WAAAAAY too many "live" 'casts for my liking I Love Movies - This is always live (I've actually been to a few of them) It's stand-up Doug Benson talking about recent movies with guests, most of them stand-ups as well.
