  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 04:40 PM) the surprise team which the sox fans haven't heard from is Cincy. they have 3 sp whose contract is up what next yr. Cincy is maybe hoping to flip one of that contract and with the savings use to sign of the other 2 sp. who knows, that is what i read yesterday. things are changing fast. I think "Bucket Of Suck" mentioned Cinci being a team that Hahn has had constant contact with. Bailey and Latos? Who's available?
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) Being a Sox fan in SoCal just means DirecTV is a must . If getting the MLB package on DirecTV is too expensive you can always add a less expensive sports package that includes CSN Chicago for the Chicago sports news every night. There's also plenty of places online like the Sox website, CSN Chicago's website and numerous Sox blogs that offer better coverage than say ESPN Chicago or Yahoo or CBS Chicago sports versions. I was working some crap jobs over the past few years (in my teens and early 20's) but now that I have a steady job, it makes it much easier to pay for the Extra Innings package, plus I can catch many more of the games. I'm honestly amazed at how many Sox fans on this board are in California. Pretty cool to see (also explains the attendance issue at the cell )
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) Josh Fields, Jery Owens, Brent Morel, thise guys all lit it up in September. As Ozzie said, if you aren't in the race, don't believe what you see in September. The jury is out on Semien. If he is the main piece in a Samardzjia trade, there are going to be a few more pieces. He does seem like the type of guy Oakland would like. So what's a reasonable trade for Samardzija, operation on the assumption that he won't sign an extension? Semien and what other 2 prospects?
  4. Thanks for the info guys. Been tough the past few years trying to keep up with the Sox since I wasn't able to catch many games with my work schedule. Should be much easier from now on, though.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) It's just the wrong time to move him. It would be selling him a bit low for no reason. Question is: Does he really fit into the future plans? 3B seems like Gillespie & (hopefully) eventually Davidson and 2B seems like either Sanchez or Johnson at this point. Semien kinda seems like the odd man out.
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) Montas was part of the Peavy deal. Has a ridiculous arm and had a real good albeit it short season last year. You're thinking of Nolan Sanburn. So Montas was the PTBNL w/ Avi?
  7. My question is: Is Semien really that valuable? Keep seeing he could be the "center piece" to a deal and I'm sitting over here wondering if I missed something or what... Also just to clarify, Montas is the guy the Sox just got for... Dunn? Isn't he projected more as a late inning guy and not a starter?
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) I'd rather pay market price for Scherzer than trade anything of value for 1 year of Shark and then having to pay him market price Realistically, the cost won't be much different and Scherzer is obviously the better pitcher, IMO. Plus they don't have to give up any big name prospects.
  9. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) So a trade will happen soon I'm not sure why he always has to have a word in on everything that goes on in Chicago baseball. He's rarely right and never insightful. "I can confirm the WhiteSox are showing interest in X" That insightful tweet after every big national writer talked about it the prior day...
  10. Via tweet from Bruce Levine: " Billy Beane will wait until Scherzer and Lester are off the market in order too max out on a trade of Samardzija." FWIW
  11. A's beat writer with some interesting thoughts: http://blog.sfgate.com/athletics/2014/11/2...hite-sox-talks/
  12. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) I know that's what he's said for the last year or two, but I don't feel like Rick would even be pursuing then as he still talks about going after controllable assets on numerous occasions. Unless the trade was for less than we expected and he's just looking for a year of competition with Shark and then getting the draft pick compensation. That's kinda what I think. It seems odd to give up much of anything for a 1 year rental and a pick (that is always a crap shoot). Especially trying to rebuild your farm, is giving up a couple of prospects now worth a 1 year rental and a 2nd round pick in 2016? I think Hahn is looking to make moves that serve competing now and in the future but I could be wrong.
  13. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) Perhaps you're right. Admittedly, I have no idea what Beane would accept. Moreover, I'm the one who feels that one year, with no contract extension is actually preferable to signing him long term. So, I'm not placing any value on him, but rather just asserting that one year would be fine with me. That said, what would you be willing to offer for one year of Samardjiza? Quite frankly, maybe I'm wrong. I have no clue... I'm more of a Bears fan/writer. Been a Sox fan for a while but now with a steady Mon-Fri job, it's much easier to catch the games and stay up on it.
  14. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) Don't you think that is an awful lot to offer? I much prefer Samardjiza, with no extension, for Semien and a lesser prospect, or perhaps just Alexei. Montas could end up being Samardjiza's replacement, when he files for free agency, at the end of the season. I feel like you might be undervaluing Shark's value a bit. Two mid level prospects aren't going to get it done and neither will just Alexei, IMO.
  15. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) What would the Sox be giving up? Possibly Anderson and maybe a prospect like Beck? That's a lot, IMO.
  16. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:57 PM) Not sure if posted @pgammo: With the White Red, Red Sox, Rangers, others talking Samadzija, AL GM says "there is no way he will sign and not go to free agency." I'm taking a pass on him. Giving up too much for a 1 year rental.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:41 PM) I have to say, isolated from pay/prospects - the idea of having samardjiza as your actual #3 rather than your fake #1 or #2 is pretty exciting to me. Sale/Q/Shark/Rodon is a hell of a rotation. Does any worry that a contract like Shark could get with the Sox will offend Sale?
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) It's all relative though champ. What's with your avatar by the way? Is that Dr. Drew wearing Timberlands? It's some really awkward looking dude in Timberlands holding some bills. The original caption said "keep the change". Something about the avi cracks me up, man.
  19. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:36 PM) Well for all the talk about the Cubs offseason to put them in contention...our offseason has been much more exciting so far. Part of me really hope really hopes they don't end up with Lester because Cubs fans are so ridiculous when it comes to exaggerating EACH DAMN MOVE THEY MAKE.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:27 PM) That WAS ace money. Market continues to move. Gross... I'll take a pass then.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:25 PM) $20 mil a year is pretty close to the going rate for a #2-#3 starter on the FA market these days, which is why this makes so little sense. That's the kind of money it'll take to extend the guy and I don't know why the White Sox are better off trading a top flight player for the right to do that when they could just go out and buy a free agent or two if they were willing to blow that kind of money on a pitcher. If we're going to spend >$80 million on a pitcher, f*** it, hold onto Anderson and Semien and go sign Shields. If he's really worth a 5 year/$100 deal, count me out. That's disgusting for a guy his age that hasn't show THAT much. I agree with you, about Shields, though.
  22. QUOTE (South Sider @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) You know what I just thought of that's quite interesting... the market for starting pitchers this offseason has not developed yet! I'm not saying that Shark would take a lowball offer... but if offered a "fair deal" (4/80 with a vesting option for a 5th year?), somehow Shark, a pitcher already under contract, would be the pitcher who sets things in motion for the SP market. And all of a sudden GMs around the league have a little bit of leverage against Lester, Scherzer and Shields. To add a little bit more to that thought... Scott Boras has been talking all offseason about how Max Scherzer actually has the arm of a younger pitcher. Less pitches, less mileage. He's trying to use that as a big selling point to get Scherzer a 200 million dollar contract. Information has been posted in this thread about how Shark is almost in the same boat as Max Scherzer in regards to "mileage". Albeit, he's not on the same level as Scherzer as a pitcher, but all of a sudden GMs would be able to dispel Boras' selling point. "Yeah Scott, we know Max has thrown less pitches then a typical 30 year old, but so has Shark, and look what he signed for" Getting way way ahead of myself here, but all in good fun. I'm not sure I call that a "fair deal". That's ace type money, and let's be honest... He's not an ace. $20M a year is a bit steep, IMO. I'd guess something like 5 years/85 MAYBE 90 or so should do it.
  23. WhiteSox would pursue extension of they land Shark. @scottmerkin: White Sox talking to Oakland. Would try to get extension with Samardzija, as the story says: http://t.co/OXD1BE4znj
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 09:12 AM) The White Sox aren't trading Adam Eaton. They have been trying to find a lead off hitter since Pods. That's my thoughts too. Seems like them for Shark is far too much.
  25. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 08:20 AM) I think the trade ends up being between Oakland and Atlanta. Maybe something like Upton and Gattis for Samardjiza, Reddick and minor league pitcher. Basically its Samardjiza for Upton is an exchange of one year rentals and then there's Gattis for Reddick +. Would love to have Reddick but dude is pretty bad against lefties so a right hand platoon partner would be needed. Bucket was not kidding when he said " moving parts ". Some dude on Twitter that I was told has sources with the A's is insisting that BOTH Alexei and Eaton are in this deal. Can anyone talk me off the ledge here? Trading Eaton for a 1 year rental?
