  1. If the players turn this down (which looks like that's what's gonna happen) I bet the season is cancelled over the owners not wanting to go to court, and are probably sick of dicking around with this whole thing.
  2. Yep. What a shame. All about the $$$$$
  3. Apparently MLB will not counter the latest proposal by the players. MLBPA supposed to vote on the latest 60 game proposal from owners today.
  4. I don't disagree with you. All I'm saying is, if the players and owners didn't think of these things before they started squabbling about money, and all of a sudden those kinds of things related to the virus starts happening and it takes them by surprise, then there is some serious, serious incompetent leadership going on all over the sport. We knew in the beginning what the risks were. The risks were very likely to happen. They are beginning to happen. They will happen. It doesn't seem to be stopping the season from happening, and it shouldn't be coming as a surprise to anyone. I'm going off the premise that the union and owners created a plan that details what happens when player(s) get it (maybe it is foolish of me to assume that), and they decided to go ahead with negotiations for a season. If they didn't plan for it, then why the hell have they been playing this money game for the last few months?
  5. Well, the players obviously want to take the risk, otherwise I think the season would be cancelled had the majority of them not want to risk it. I would imagine the players association would have had those conversations about various "what-if" scenarios. So any player that is going to play, is willingly taking that risk of the first scenario you laid out. They can sit out if they want, and I would imagine the coaches who don't want to risk it would as well. I don't think anyone would be penalized for it, other than no pay. And as for the 2nd scenario, I suppose that could happen, but if it hasn't happened by the time the postseason comes around, it probably won't, as those guys have been breathing the same air for 2 months already.
  6. Is this honestly a suprise though? I would hope when they finalize their deal, they put a plan in place for these things. To not plan for players to get the virus is foolish. It's going to happen. I don't see how it's changed much from when negotiations started back in March in regards to the virus, when things were much, much worse and not much was known about it.
  7. Do you think Manfred zoom calls all 30 owners at once? Can you imagine what that would be like?
  8. Rumors flooding in now...it's all just speculative at this point.
  9. A lot of teams are already seeking mediocrity with rebuilding, although for long-term gain. I don't see much of a difference here. Makes fans more interested. Maybe not include half of each league, but 12 or 14 teams total would be good for me.
  10. This is the most professional thing I've seen come out of this entire debacle. Why all the bullshit had to happen first is beyond me
  11. What a roller coaster of emotions these last few days have been in the baseball world
  12. So their grievance would be based on a hypothetical situation...that never happened?
  13. Why would they be owed an additional billion? Is that language somewhere in the March agreement?
  14. Wow. What a ******* shame. The players literally said "tell us when and where." They gave full unilateral power to their bosses to tell them what to do. And now Manfred is saying they might not play?? After just a few days ago saying 100% they will play? Wtf? How idiotic. What a sham this has turned out to be.
  15. So dumb. We'll get through one month of games and we'll be like, damn season's almost over already. 2nd wave of virus is coming, probably already here... I love baseball more than the next guy, but maybe they should just cancel it. Is 50 games really worth it?
  16. Well...what do you all think next steps are? MLB formally sends instructions to teams on when to start the spring training? I would guess that now the focus needs to shift to how the players are going to be kept as safe as possible from Covid.
  17. But can the league still enact expanded playoffs if they want?
  18. I was initially concerned that some players will feel "forced" to play with the league unilaterally mandating beginning of the season. I hope Clark's statement of "players want to play, it's who we are and what we do" speaks for at the very least the vast majority of players, and they play with the same heart and passion that they always do. Hopefully bitterness doesn't take over the players, who are the heart and soul of the game.
  19. Even if they opened the books people will say they held back documents and records so I really don't see the point. It will just be an ongoing fingerpointing fight until one side ultimately gets what they want. Fuel to the fire
  20. I usually side with the owners...I'm far from a trump supporter and I'm not really conservative
  21. I don't watch much of the Bulls or Blackhawks. But the Bulls have never won a title in my lifetime, and I (painfully) watch the Bears on a fairly regular basis. I watched the Bulls when I was a kid...when they had Noah, Heinrich, Deng, Rose, Ben Gordon, even Ben Wallace. More recently Jimmy Buckets. They were fun to watch. When the last of those guys left...I lost interest. Hawks won 3 cups and I can still watch Kaner/Toews. I think the Bulls still won't win for another good while. Bulls it is for me.
  22. Finally. Something to go off of. Exactly one month from today is OD. Spring training next week?
  23. Well I think it's encouraging that initial reports were the owners weren't going to negotiate further and that turned out to be wrong, and we haven't had this most recent deal turned down yet and it's been almost a full 24 hours so that's...something.
  24. That 3rd paragraph...so much yes. That right there in a nutshell is what they need to change in order to get this country back into baseball again. I would be STOKED if they did all of those things. And the league needs to start seriously having discussions about how to make those things happen. I disagree with the first part of your post though. I still think they should try to play this year. I just think with the improvements from so many of our young players we saw last year, I fear the worst could happen with their development. However, I agree that a 50 game season is stupid. If that is seriously the best thing the league can come up with, might as well cancel the season. I'm not even sure how interested in watching I would be. Also, they better refund me my MLB.TV, and/or make the postseason long and accessible to MLB.TV subscribers...
