QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) Eh? Prior to Hughes making those 3s at the end of the game I believe he was 0-10. Eventually he had to make a few, but that was the worst shooting performance by Wisconsin this season. Good luck to Illinois, and hopefully Wisconsin got their horrible shooting game out of the way before the NCAA tournament. Not going to win many games shooting 28.6%. There is no way they should have been even close at the end. If Illinois beats OSU, they should be in. Otherwise its a toss up, but imo theyll have to play 10x better than yesterday to beat OSU, because I cant imagine 2 teams in a row will shoot under 30%. That being said I hope the Big 10 gets 5 teams, and if Minnesota wins the tournament it could be potentially 6. Although if its an Illini-Minnesota final they may just have the winner be the 5th team. Illinois was up 11 with 2 minutes left and then Hughes started tossing in lucky shots (bank shots, ridiculously high arc shots, etc.) that is what my post was referring to. Someone asked what happened to get Wisconsin in the game, that was it.

Houston up 4 with 2 minutes to go against UTEP. UTEP choking big time down the stretch, they were in complete control not long ago. -
QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 10:50 AM) Jerry Palm at CBS still has Illinois out of the tournament and I think he's right. If Illinois beats OSU, they'd be in but I don't see that happening. Like Palm, I don't see the Big ten getting more than 4 teams in with what's happened in the ACC and Big East. And if the Big Ten does send 5 teams, Minnesota has the best shot since they can beat Purdue.... Jerry Palm also says Illinois wouldn't be in if they beat OSU today which is ridiculous. He has a vested interest in the RPI so he has been hammering teams with low RPIs. Also what has happened in the ACC and Big East tourneys? The Big East tourney went basically perfectly for Illinois and if GA Tech and Duke win today nothing went wrong at all in the ACC. Ga Tech was always considered ahead of Illinois by everyone so their wins while not helping Illinois didn't really hurt Illinois.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 12:26 AM) I think we're ok in the ACC, but i'm worried about those other 3 things. I think Minnesota should be in right now over Illinois since they beat them in Champaign, but fortunately that's not how it works. Minny has less quality wins and more bad losses than Illinois. They also finished lower in the conference. They really don't have a strong argument at all to be in over Illinois.
-
Not a lock but they will be in with a loss if Duke or Ga Tech win the ACC tourney, UTEP wins Conf USA, Purdue beats Minny, and Utah St. wins their conference.
-
MSU trying their hardest to give the game to Minny at the FT line.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) New Mexico is pretty much a 5-6 seed disguised as a #2 seed because of their schedule. They aren't good at all, I'm going to be tempted to pick the 14 seed against them (I assume they will get a 3). -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) I really don't think so. It's certainly not clear, it's at the very least close. I don't see how you see it as clearly a foul. He hits his wrist, didn't get the ball at all. Vasquez pushed off though so probably doesn't matter.
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 09:16 PM) Yes, but I feel like Maryland should lose because Vasquez has had two awful possessions in a row where he refused to trust his teammates. Yep but the officials bail out GT again because Vasquez clearly got fouled on that last 3 attempt as well.
-
That put back dunk by Favors shouldn't have counted in the GT v. MD game.
-
Georgia Tech melting down big time in the 2nd half.
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) Man, you got to have the feeling that if Hughes didn't foul out he was going to drain that tying 3. Fun ending. It was ridiculous. I was feeling good until he tossed in that bulls*** bank shot.
-
Really good win, dominated the game until Hughes decided to toss up and make a bunch of bulls*** shots in a row.
-
Hughes has tossed in lucky ass shot after lucky ass shot.
-
If we lose I hope Bill Cole never shows his face in Champaign again.
-
Also, the games not over yet. Nothing ever comes easy for this Illinois team.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Illinois just played themselves into the tourney, nice work. St Joe's part 3 coming up. Chi-town Not a lock but a lot would have to go wrong now in the conference tourneys or we could always get screwed by the selection committee.
-
Can we not have unbelievably stupid turnovers please.
-
BTW except for that one awful 2 minute stretch in the first half the refs have been very balanced today, basically just letting both teams play. Although considering there have been nothing but jump shots it probably makes their jobs easier.
-
Wisconsin still shooting horribly, but Illinois is doing a great job contesting everything. Probably the best D they have played all year thus far (knock on wood) I still think Wisconsin makes a run at some point.
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) Right, but both of those stats are more sustainable than those shooting percentages. You have to agree that Illinois is not going to shoot 65% for a whole game and Wisconsin certainly isn't going to shoot 19% for a whole game. Agreed but Illinois is generally good at taking care of the ball and had a few completely unforced turnovers. Also, Illinois got way better looks at the basket than Wisky. The shooting percentages will even out but if both teams get the same looks at the basket in the 2nd half Illinois wins.
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Illinois is shooting 65%. Wisconsin is shooting 19%. Illinois is only up 9?! If that doesn't mean Wisconsin is going to win this game, I don't know what does. 9 turnovers to 1, and then Wisconsin got a bunch of 2nd chance points.
-
Illinois has been on the short end of the officiating today. DMac definitely carried but that type of move happens all the time and is never called. I hate when they call it randomly like that.
-
The Tisdale travel call and that last "foul" were both horrendous calls.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) Brandon played this year the exact same way he did when he was on varsity at Warren as a soph. Trying to do too much, needed to get stronger/better, and he did. Paul will come around. Meyers Leonard's Robinson team on TV tonight. In final four at state vs. Hales at 8pm. Gonna DVR it I think Leonard has the highest ceiling of any player in the state. He has a lot to work on but 7 footers with his athleticism are incredibly rare and he is also fairly skilled.
