ABC Says Peter Jennings Has Lung Cancer
LowerCaseRepublican replied to greasywheels121's topic in SLaM
Get well soon... But I first thought of the whole Simpsons ep where they had Fox News on there with this news ticker Pointless news crawls up 37 percent... Do Democrats cause cancer? Find out at foxnews.com... Rupert Murdoch: Terrific dancer... Dow down 5000 points... Study: 92 percent of Democrats are gay... JFK posthumously joins Republican Party... Oil slicks found to keep seals young, supple... I guess part of its true. -
**Not Safe for Work mp3 listening** http://www.oliverwillis.com/files/hannityvmoran.mp3 Sean Hannity, the talking-point spouting mouthpiece on Fox News' Hannity & Colmes was recently caught by Harry Shearer slamming a Democratic congressman as an "asshole" when Hannity didn't realize he was being recorded. Strangely, Hannity is constantly decrying the lack of civility from Democrats, but in the recording goes on to say "I hate these people".

http://antiwar.com/justin/ One of the parts of a satire piece in there I found quite interesting -- "Isn't it time to put up the shutters on the Vatican windows and recognize that this oldest part of old Europe is no longer with the program? It was enemy territory in World War II and now it still is firmly in the camp of Germany and France. It is no surprise that the Pope opposes bold American leadership in the war on Terror and Iraq: he is living in jealous memories of the days when the Church was major power and when Rome was more important than Washington." The satire continues: "So why do we read the columns of vitriol printed about Germany and France, and nothing about John Paul and his undemocratic little autocracy tainted with anti-Semitism and anti-Militarism? Where is the New York Post dispatch from St Peter's Square? Why doesn't a Post reporter stand where Galileo was arraigned and say "It still sucks! Vivat wimpi!" Where are the cartoons showing white mushroom clouds coming from the Vatican chimney to symbolize the need for a new, young, vigorous and compliant Bishop of Rome?" The article is a bit long but it makes a good case for JP II being quite the anti-war on terror advocate and is a pretty damn good eulogy. And I should mention the author of this also writes for "The American Conservative". So its not the typical leftist vitriol

So why don't we all agree that nuclear waste in the water may not be a good idea and try to do s*** to stop it since it seems to be a common denominator here. /uniter not a divider PS: Evil, I would be old enough for a beer (I'm 22...23 in November) -
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) Half the team has that major. Dee was high school NHS, Engram is an engineer and I believe Nick Smith is a grad student in either accounting or finance. So we've got some brains on our team.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) He's on a free ride anyway? You're implying that his family is poor for some reason. Do you have any inside info?? Are they poor. Seriously, coming that close and knowing I have another year of eligibility left and that I could go one more year without living in a huge mansion or having that range rover, I wouldn't think twice. Unless my family was piss poor, I would stay. Maybe that's the competitive spirit in me. Yeah, he needs that Sports Management degree instead of millions of dollars guaranteed with an NBA contract

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Take it like a god damn man We f***ing lost and we have to live with it The one time to quote Napoleon Dynamite and have it be fitting -- "What [complaining] idiots! Gosh!" We've got a 1st place team & the baseball season just started. The Church of Baseball is in session!
-
Wow -- let's go Illini. Tie game.
-
QUOTE(soxman35 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) how many fouls does May have 1.
-
What the Hell did Weber say to these guys? Can I say the obvious of "Drunk girls for everybody if you win"?

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Yeah I understand, I let my emotions get the best of me alot. UNC did tear apart Roger and no call, that was bad. Also, don't lump recent UNC in with other elite programs, we haven't been here in 12 years. f*** Duke. Duke sucks. Supposedly Dukie V didn't even get tix to today's game Hating Duke is a tradition for me -- much like the UIUC football team having no front seven or Pierre Pierce getting charged with sexual assault.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) Give him a break. It's easy to let emotions get in the way at the moment. He just wants his team to win. We're not Unc or Duke. We don't get the best players every other year. No telling when will have a team this good again. I'm just being a smartass annoyed by both the horrible play of Illinois & the fact that Sean May seems to be made of teflon on the court.
-
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Wow, didn't expect that from you. I'm just saying that if he walks, takes off Engram's head and gets away with fouls, then he deserves to take some s***.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) UNC is outplaying us, but apparently Sean May gets to do whatever he feels like on the basketball court. Sean May Hungry!
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Illinois is going to win this game. I sure hope so if I want to sleep -- cuz otherwise I'm sure the riots/anger is going to keep me up
-
Sean May walks & takes off Engram's head -- of course no foul. But Deron hand checking is so much more important.
-
Wow. Powell just got mugged. No call -- nice job refs.
-
I wish these refs would let them play instead of small hand check fouls -- for f***'s sake is the national championship.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) What building is that guy on? Also, where you guys watching the game at? I'm going to a sports bar in Carbondale He's above the doors of Foellinger Auditorium. Its on the south part of the Quad near the library. He'd have a long climb to the top of the building since it's a fairly large building. I'm watching the game in my apartment with my case of beer -- and of course going out to view the insanity after the game because it's going to be f***ing nuts.
-
My personal favorite photo from the post-game festivities against Louisville. I'm not even entirely sure how he got up there. This game is going to be very close -- a real toss up. But what we do know is that there is going to be pandamonium on these two campuses. Should make for an interesting night since I gotta be up at 7 am (I got observations)

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Then, tell me, why do nearly all of your posts portray our government negatively? Why do I not see any posts from you that, say, point out problems in Canada's government? Or any other government, for that matter? Dare I say the majority of the posters are American and therefore would have a better knowledge of the intricacies of American government -- moreso than the political climate of Canada, Italy, France, etc. [that is except for the small cabal of political junkies like myself who read way too much for their own good] Cuz Hell, I made a post about a Canadian politician that got put on a Punisher shirt recently (been busy and haven't had too much time to read news as much as I'd like due to school, preparing lesson plans etc.) and it got a whole 2-3 posts, IIRC. So, it might be a simple lack of knowledge of people responding to the topic -- and they don't want to since they don't know too much about the socio-political climate of the area (which is key to understanding issues) -
QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) There's rampant corruption throughtout the Oil Industry and that there are Canadians involved is no surprise. What? No foaming at the mouth of a rampant anti-Canadian bias? I love hackery of "Sure, our country may have a government of corrupt, amoral pricks for leaders but you've got some too so that means ours are somehow absolved!" One can condemn all corruption there *cough Evil Monkey cough* without taking sides due to simple geographic location.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 11:18 PM) Perhaps he did. Then again, he doesn't go out of his way to insult Canadians. Posting articles regarding the failings of American policy isn't insulting to the American people -- but rather foments debate over issues. Sticking one's fingers in their ears yelling "LA LA LA! I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" does nothing. Its just fun that you find nothing wrong with EM's asinine posts in this topic -- an adult ranting like a five year old. I had to read it twice because I was laughing so damn hard. -

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) Of course, your "interests" almost exclusively revolve around news that's damning to the U.S. government. And, for some reason, you just can't understand why American citizens take offense to that. Nobody here is interested in banning you. Calling out your anti-American bias and making you look like a complete ass is infinitely more gratifying. Cuz I'm sure EvilMonkey didn't look like an ignorant jackass at all, right? :rolly Its the pot calling the kettle black. -

I must say that I love the adults on this board acting like infantile children. Its quite amusing.
