Why does this investigatory panel hate America so much? They're just helping the terrorists. -
Just an FYI before people go after the foaming at the mouth liberal lefties for the creation of this device: From the AP: Formerly a registered Republican, even a precinct captain, Kimery became an independent in the 1990s when he said the state party stopped taking input from its everyday members. Kimery now contends Fox News' top-level management dictates a conservative journalistic bias, that inaccuracies are never retracted, and what winds up on the air is more opinion than news. "I might as well be reading tabloids out of the grocery store," he says. "Anything to get a rise out of the viewer and to reinforce certain retrograde notions." A Fox spokeswoman at the station's New York headquarters said the channel's ratings speak for themselves. For the first three months of this year, Fox has been averaging 1.62 million viewers in prime-time, compared with CNN's 805,000, according to Nielsen Media Research. Kimery's motives go deeper than preventing people from watching the channel, which he acknowledges can be done without the Blocker. But he likens his device to burning a draft card, a tangible example of disagreement.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...083571111681239 The American Civil Liberties Union (news - web sites) (ACLU), long vilified by conservatives, has joined forces with right-wing groups the American Conservative Union, Americans for Tax Reform, and the Free Congress Foundation to spearhead the ''Patriots to Restore Checks and Balances'' coalition. ''Checks and balances are absolutely essential, even and especially during times of threat,'' said coalition leader Bob Barr, a former Republican Congressman from Georgia who voted for the law in 2001. ''Our message is universal. Liberty is not divisible, even in the face of terrorism, and we must not allow any part of it to be sacrificed in our efforts to defeat acts of terrorism.'' Wow, I'm in agreement with Pat Buchanan, Bob Barr & Dick Armey on the PATRIOT Act issue. Who would have thunk that one?

So with all this wrangling going on, marriage = one man, one woman, her parents & the US Congress?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) I'm happy that the US Congress passed Schiavo's Law. I think that extra tool will make it harder for guardians of disabled persons to starve them to death in the absence of a living will. Its an extra tool to insure due process within the state. Let's call Schiavo's Law what it is -- and what their own Congressional memo that got leaked said it is: Congressional authoritarian statists wrapping themselves up in this poor woman's sickbed to try to pander to the extreme Christian right in order to garner more votes during the 2006 midterm elections.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) Here's a question. What about Jack Kevorkian? Here's a guy who had the documents needed to "take life" through a living will, and he's sitting in jail over it. Meanwhile, all you people who want to "pull Terri's plug" aren't screaming that Dr. Jack get out of jail? Which way is it? Kevorkian wasn't murdering people but providing people death with dignity -- and without the mess. These people he assisted were terminally ill and were going to take themselves out anyway, using his assistance to do it in a more "dignified" manner. Personally I think its more considerate of them to do so rather than painting their den a shade of red and brain matter gray -- forcing the family members to clean it up. People who want a death with dignity and that is their personal choice after reflection & discussion with loved ones/doctors should be given that opportunity without government wrapping themselves up in "the culture of life" when the government would have no problem killing these people if they committed a certain crime.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) Call me a cynic, call me heartless, call me whatever you want but I would like to see her kick the bucket cause she obviously cant get better and the media is doing what they do best here. They're taking someones suffering and using it to score ratings. And hypocritical assholes looking to pander to their voting blocs, lets not forget about that. Feeding tubes are removed every day from people...why such giving a damn about this specific one?
-
Not to shift the debate here, but something I thought of: If Bush is so pro-life then why did he execute so many people in Texas without even reading the sentencing reports? And why did he sign the 1999 law that says that people on Medicaid -- the hospitals get to choose to remove feeding tubes etc. and not doctors/family members if they can't afford to keep the help going? Let's not forget the hotly contested WMD claims in Iraq where many people didn't believe but he went with his leap of faith anyway...But suddenly he wants to "err on the side of caution"? And a bit more cynical -- why don't all the conservative Christians want to see Terri Schiavo in Heaven?

Suing because you're insulted as to what is talked about in a class? BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Talk about the PC Police on patrol. Holy Hell.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) So in your opinion can anything be done to help prevent this? What about mandatory guidance counseling? Increase funding for schools. The current status of NCLB underfunds schools (yes, it was an increase in previous funding but they underfunded what it would take to complete all the demands of NCLB) Have peer group counseling. -
QUOTE(flippedoutpunk @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) Black Hawk Down - Mark Bowden Fun fact about "Black Hawk Down" book and movie -- one of the character's name was changed because he is currently in prison for being a sex offender.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) That seems to imply it's out of the hands of both the workers & the board. Does trying to discern problem behavior through a brown bag lunch system constitute profiling? Would the recent patriot act circumvent first amendment rights in that regards? If members of the board or workers were constitute policies that were associated with anti-terrorist preventionism would that pass muster by the USSC? The US Supreme Court believes that the children have rights that are not circumvented when they walk through the school doors. In Illinois, all teachers are guaranteed a duty-free lunch period since in the past school boards and administrations have tried to have teachers do assloads of work when they were eating so they never got a breather. Plus there is simply not enough funds for qualified mental health professionals to be in schools doing interviews etc. Parents in districts do not like paying extra taxes for education as can be seen in the funding disparities. Teachers who do not know what to look for mental health wise is insane because a) there's not enough time to get through the coursework in a class with the huge amounts of people in the classes B) teachers don't know what to look for nearly as much as mental health professionals and c) students are not going to be honest with teachers...since as most adolescent theories of development show, adolescents more often share with friends their own age rather than parents and authority figures. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) Apu-Understand that I am not agreeing with it. I don't like it at all. But I see it is a fact of life. Being married to a teacher, I see everything that happens on the inside of the high school here. I don't see students rights as being worth much with the way that the rules are enforced. And when you factor in that with that, these kind of kids are routinely ignored, even with more ablility to intervene than outside of the schools wall, I think the schools have a higher obligation to act on these kind of problems. I know -- I'm just trying to make my "Professional Issues for Teachers" class seem somewhat relevent since this is the first time I've gotten to use any information that I spent the entire semester learning. It'd be great for schools to have all these resources but as you've noted the parents want the teachers and the schools to do all these things -- but at the same time, as is ocurring in my home town right now -- voting down tax referendums to adequately fund schools to meet all these demands. People keep voting with their wallets rather than what's best -- and thats something we both can agree on. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) The liberty arguement holds no water. It has been run through the courts and kids have little to no rights to privacy at a school setting. Searches that would unconstitutional elsewhere, are perfectly fine in the HS setting. Freedom of speech is squashed at the school level everyday. Its a lack of willingness to be involved, plain and simple. Tinker vs Des Moines (1969): First Amendment rights, applied in light of the special characteristics of the school environment, are available to teachers and students. It can hardly be argued that either students or teachers shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate. You as a student have the right to express your personal and political beliefs in school (see Tinker vs. Des Moines). The Supreme Court has upheld this decision on many occasions, protecting student rights. Your administration does not need to like what you're saying, but as long as it doesn't create a material and substantial disruption in the classroom, you can say it. And the disruption has to actually be created -- fear of disruption is not grounds for censorship. For 4th amendment searches, the Supreme Court allows for locker searches (since the lockers are the property of the school) There must be reasonable suspicion that a law or school rule has been violated and the search must be reasonable in its scope. That is less than probable cause http://www.aclu-il.org/legal/highschool/te...ndseizure.shtml -

No matter what the political stripe, the idea of electronic voting machines that had noticeable problems during the election (i.e. the story where there were more votes cast than residents in the town -- off by a few thousand)...there should be a paper trail for the ballots & most everybody should support that simply for the integrity of the elections. http://www.ledgeofliberty.com/2004/12/vide...ton_c.html#more Video of partial testimony of Clinton Curtis, the Floridian NASA computer programmer turned election fraud whistle-blower. His claim being that he was hired by Congressman Tom Feeney (R-FL) to develop vote rigging software. Clinton, or 'Clint' as on his affidavit, armed with a new book, is now bringing to light his apparent involvement.

QUOTE(silver and black @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 01:43 AM) It is my senior prom... Who really would go to prom with a mug like mine... I don't have an ebay account... I like the help you are giving me... Old Chomsky quote: "If you believe there is no hope, you ensure there is no hope." If you don't wanna be around yourself then how do you expect to find anybody else to want to?

Holy Christ -- grow a set & ask somebody. If they say no, that's the worst they can say. And in my own personal philosophy when a girl says no to me, I explain it away thinking "Hey, I can't help she's a lesbian." Just find a girl and talk to her -- work a creative line* (i.e. get a buddy and go up to a girl saying "Are you Michael Jordan? Because my friend and I totally want to double team you") *LCRCo takes no responsibility for injuries incurred as a result of using these line(s). Prom can be a very fun time with friends and that's it. Its what I did -- went with my cabal of friends and we laughed our asses off all night long.
