QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) Just to clarify--there is such a crime as marital rape. Not necessarily in the sense that Dworkin means, though. Also, I would say that Dworkin is a main reason that feminism today has a bad rap. She was an interesting thinker, but not my cup o' tea.... Oh, and Dworkin was married, iirc.... I know there is marital rape -- however, I severely doubt this is what Dworkin was discussing. As a guy, I have a difficult time with her making blanket statements about all men. If they were meant in a joking manner (i.e. Kinison, Hicks, etc.) then its different. However, I think what she was doing was engaging in hackery of a great degree. The research regarding pornography does not even support her claims.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) I never read about this woman until her death. Fact is that some of what she says (from articles that I have read since her passing) have kernals of truth. Regardless, must we be so disrespectful to someone that has just died? How would you like it if a parent or a sibling died and then someone who didn't like what the deceased person dedicated their life to and went on a rant about that deceased family member being a "fat b****" or a "fat bastard" or a "total idiot?" I can understand disagreeing with her work, but can it be constructive criticsm (why you think she is off her rocker) rather than name calling? QP, its simple turnabout. Insinuating that men rape women in marriage and her pseudo-science regarding pornography (which has been discredited by most actual research on the subject) -- she deserves a bit of fair play in receiving some of the vitriol she's spewed throughout the years.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) I don't know much about her...but I know I don't like fat chicks and I love pornography! So f*** her! She was a famous (or should that be infamous?) feminist who gained a lot of notoriety saying that most sex is rape etc. etc. Here are a few of her quotes Sex - "No woman needs intercourse; few women escape it." Marriage - "Marriage as an institution developed from rape as a practice. Rape, originally defined as abduction, became marriage by capture. Marriage meant the taking was to extend in time, to be not only use of but possession of, or ownership." Seduction - "Seduction is often difficult to distinguish from rape. In seduction, the rapist often bothers to buy a bottle of wine."

http://www.local10.com/entertainment/4371684/detail.html Far be it from me to take delight in the death of a fellow human but given that someone is probably going to die everyday it may as well have been this vitriolic shrew. It is supremely ironic that this raging harridan of anti-pornography should be the poster girl for those who might wish to explain the need for pictures of pretty women. I mean, human reproduction might cease completely if men were confronted regularly with images of this, uhhh, woman. Or did the news service accidentally put a picture of Sam Kinnison in her place. No, that would be an insult to Sam---he was better looking than this.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) Call it an idiotic statement if you want. You know who I was supporting so it shouldn't surprise you. That is my opinion and that's not art to me. If you think pointing a gun at the president's head is art, then be my guest. Even if you don't think it is "art" which is a wholly subjective term, he's still got the right to produce it if he is so inclined. But at least nobody tried destroying this guy's piece unlike last year with an Israeli ambassador taking out a piece called "Snow White and the Madness of Truth" -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_White_an...adness_of_Truth has the story of the piece, author and what the author's message is. A photo of the piece is below.

The Secret Service also investigated a kid with a bumper sticker that said "King George -- Off With His Head" playing on satire and my personal favorite -- investigating a high school talent show because the band played a cover of the Dylan song "Masters of War" which some students said had a threat to the President in it [its difficult for it to have an anti-Bush message when the song was written way before he took office] And CC, there is a difference. The author of this piece of work is over 18 and therefore an adult has fully protected rights in the Constitution. However, minors have different Constitutional rights when they enter the schoolhouse. There are different regulations to meet in schools to have a 4th Amendment viable search, etc. So your statement is a misnomer since a minor's freedoms can be curtailed in the school.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) That's so typical of the American media. Don't want to offend anyone or make anyone think. But Michael Jackson is having a court trial! -
QUOTE(shagar69 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) I have started workin out regularly (weights and running) and my goal is to simply build muscle mass for appearance. I just want to look buff and have defined and visible muscles. I dont necessarily want to be able to bench 400 pounds or anything like that, just want to have lean, well defined, muscles, simply for appearance. What would you guys who workout recommend i do with my workout regiment, and what supplements i.e. creatine, whey protein if any would help me acheive this goal? Weights, cardio and good eating. Kines majors at UIUC would probably be more than willing to help you out figuring that s*** out especially since they really know what they are doing.

Per Rotoworld, Twins pitcher Carlos Silva is out until after the All Star Break due to surgery to repair a torn meniscus. David Gassner is supposedly going to be the new 5th. http://www.goldpanners.com/Pressbox/Player...er-david_00.htm -- Link to stats for Gassner.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) The prison system dos have a legal, and I would add, a moral responsibility to their "guests". With that in mind, he could, and should, receive treatment and incarceration in a facility where he would be safe. That is the right thing to do. Perhaps a woman's prison At least he has his music. There is some good going to prison advice here for the King of Pop! Tex, if he would have listened to his song lyrics like you quoted then he wouldn't have had any of these problems to begin with. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) Like many Patriots before him, the Hammer is a target for trying to do too much to help Americans. I've stopped believing a lot of what I read and hear in the media. Besides, much of this is just accusations that have not been proven. We'll see what the voters in Sugarland think about it next election. Here is a guy that has unselfishly given 20 years of his life to public service, it's like booing Michael Jordan at the end of his career. This really is an extension of the attempts to first discredit Bush, then Chaney, and now the Hammer. Notice they are all Texans. Notice they aren't digging up stuff on Hastert who I am certain must have a couple skeletons in his closet. Oh wait, he's from Illinois. Well there was "Sex Party" Ryan during the race with Obama that got the investigative dirt hammer dropped on him and he was from Illinois.

http://www.dailycampus.com/news/2005/04/06...67.shtml?page=1 What group of self respecting Republicans believes that the best person to discuss their political ideology is a steroid abusing former pro wrestler who desperately needs money and refers to himself in the 3rd person using his wrestling gimmick? PS: Critic, Showtime or anybody who would know -- I heard he actually changed his legal name to Warrior. True?

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) 7 runs given up in 4 innings. Yep, those cubbies are going to have the best pitching staff EVER once he gets back. :rolly My Flub fan friend: "I'm not surprised. I don't believe anything TribCo. tells me." -
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/4415947.stm They have come to pay their final respects, so is taking a mobile phone picture of the Pope's body disrespectful or just a sign of how times changed during his 26-year papacy? To some it is distasteful, inappropriate and plain disrespectful. To others it is recording an historic moment to share with those who cannot be there. -- Its an interesting debate -- and learned something new (Pius XII deathbed photos were sold by his doctor in 1958) Thoughts?

I haven't had a cold or anything like that knock me on my ass since I stopped drinking milk and instead started taking calcium supplements with my daily vitamins. But the last thing I had was a little stomach ache (which was post drinking related...tends to happen after an evening of 3 shots of Captain, 5 PBRs, 3 shots of Smirnoff, 4 shots of Stoli Orange, a Stoli Orange screwdriver and a Belgian Ale)

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) He's just ripping into Tom Delay over this whole money deal of his. His eyes are bugging out of his head and he's screaming at this consultant who's trying to defend him. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. It says something about Delay's f***ups when even Ailes and FNC won't defend him. And Tex, at the very least he should step down from his position in the Ethics Committee (I mean, Hell, the GOP even removed a rule put forth during the "Republican Revolution" of 1994 that they used to politically target a few Democrats saying that if you were under investigation then you could not be chairman of a committee -- of course when Delay was being investigated, the GOP just removed that pesky little provision since they were on the wrong end of it now) Hell, Where's Ken Starr when you need him? And lets not even get into his threats against judges -- http://rawstory.com/exclusives/byrne/laute...schiavo_401.htm

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) You are most likely right. And with America's standing in the world, it will be a long time if ever, that we see an American pope. Good money would be bet on Italian or Latin American. I really doubt the Catholic church is advanced enough for a black pope, so that eliminates a whole continent. With America's standing in the world -- and the fact that the Popes need to speak multiple languages, be very diplomatic etc. etc., it'd be difficult seeing an American Pope with the political climate that is dominating the country at the current time. It'd be really cool to see a Latin American Pope although they would probably pick somebody who is quite moderate and not a follower of liberation theology. But whomever the Pope is, they've got a lot of work ahead of them since J2P2 didn't do too much to handle the priest rape scandal or the 3rd world AIDS/HIV crisis due to his severely ailing health at the time. And an odd aside about the Pope -- when other major world entities came out against the war, it was chic to bash the French, the Germans, etc. etc., but nobody said s*** about the Pope and the Vatican's anti-war position. Why weren't the feverish demands to boycott Catholic churches and the such until a more pro-American pope came to power like the boycott (albeit a very unsuccessful one since imports from France have gone up since the start of the Iraq war) of France?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) That is awesome. I literally hate those things. Very little or no money goes to the cause, and it is just another commerical opportunity for American's to show off where modesty should be the rule. You support American troops... no s***, don't we all? I was reading the local indy media paper here on campus and they had this political cartoon -- the back of this guy's car is covered with ribbons and two men are standing next to the car. One guy is asking what the ribbons are for (pointing to different ones), to which the 2nd guy responds "support the troops, breast cancer research..." and so on. The first guy says "Well what about that one?" The response from the 2nd guy: "I have no idea but it keeps my hatchback from falling apart."
-
Well at least it wasn't a student. Still very tragic.

Put a ribbon on your car -- its literally the least you can do.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Interesting note: I noticed the regions are Italy, Latin America, Europe, Africa-Asia. You guys ever think there will be an American born Pope? I think the best shot of an American Pope was buried with Cardinal Bernadin.

Since the new election of the Pope is coming up, there have been brackets made.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Would those be the same Democrats that posted movies of Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter dolls being run over by cars on a web site a few weeks ago? (Did you forget about that one, or did it just not fit your political agenda?) :rolly I don't condone what Hannity said, but the political hackery that you speak of is prevalent on the left as well. I know that hackery (Moore etc.) is prevalent as well -- its just fun to watch a guy who touts "respect" and all this other stuff get taken down a few pegs by showing what a f***ing hypocrite he is.
