http://cbs2chicago.com/topstories/local_story_143110800.html Stupid Cub fans Authorities say three people, including an off-duty Chicago Police officer, were hospitalized after a brawl near Wrigley Field following yesterday's Chicago White Sox-Chicago Cubs game. Police say the fight near Addison Avenue and Clark Street started when someone became angry at the officer for wearing a Boston Red Sox jersey as he worked at a concession stand. They say the officer then showed his badge, and a shoving match and a fight began. Officers say they arrested three people in the fracas, including one who had to be subdued with a Taser stun gun. All three of the injured were reported in good condition late last night.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) Hey, if Bush = Hitler, so can Democrats. You are right, both parties do it, but you seemed to leave that out the first time. I am sure I have left it off before as well. Maybe we could both get jobs at newsweek? Haha, gimme Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich and lets just re-start with 433 new members of Congress. I choose Paul and Kucinich because they seem to be the least corporately corrupt sonsofb****es in government. Plus, that way it'd be bi-partisan (Paul is a Republican from Texas and Kucinich is a Democrat from Ohio but oddly enough, they both agree on a lot of the same issues so things have a prospect of getting done) Anything would be better than Dr. Bill "I have a degree in medicine but I can't give a straight answer about whether I believe tears & sweat transmitting AIDS is true because if I say its BS, I'll be slaughtered by the abstinence only Christian right" Frist and the rest of the whores. To quote Jon Stewart, "I want to cry...but I don't want to put a condom on my face." And an aside if you want to read about the bi-partisan f***ing of this country, check out "Pigs at the Trough" and "Perfectly Legal".

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ May 23, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) It is not the amount of judges that don't get confirmed, it is for what position that they don't get confirmed. The Dems are simply holding out on anyone for any position that they consider to be a stepping stone to the Supreme Court. You of all people here should know that. Its all the same pithy stuff that each party does whenever they aren't in power. Doesn't make it right but its all it is. My favorite has been Santorum and Novak trying to interject allusions to Democrats being like Hitler and the SS during their debates about the filibuster. That's provided a ton of comedic relief to the insanity of American politics.

QUOTE(Yossarian @ May 23, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) I saw Galloway. He is a fierce debater, a veteran of the British Parliament where they regularly have real live debates with real live debaters. You could not help be impressed with his performance. He made his accusers look weak and small. He was direct, articulate and defiant. Why the big surprise? Like I said, in Britain they are far more skilled in the art of debate than the arrogant, pea brained, blow dried assholes we have in both houses of our Congress. However a little investigation is in order. Galloway has a past and quite a bit of baggage to go with him. Hey, if you're left oriented he's your guy. Our man George is still lamenting the fall of the old Soviet Empire. You think we have left leaning politicians in the good old USA? Galloway and company make Dennis Kucinich look like Eisenhower Republicans. Yes, George Galloway won that round of the debate in convincing fashion. It must have given Bush haters everywhere cause for joy. Maybe a couple of 9-11 style attacks and it will be Partaaaayyyyyy. After all, it's been a while. Jolly good show old chap. Ooops, I shouldn't have said that Galloway is from Scotland. That was a fine show Laddddie. He's still an asshole. You don't even have to turn over any rocks, just a little basic investigation will do. I'm not saying that he doesn't have baggage. I'm just saying that he owned the Hell out of Coleman and the pro-war Bushistas quite hardcore. Attacking the messenger doesn't make the message and the facts of his discussion any less valid.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 23, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) So they reached a deal to only filibuster under "extraordinary circumstances" judicial nominees. I'll bet my next paycheck the next "extraordinary cirumstance" is when Renqhuist retires, and that is a f***ing shame, because this was all a show. When 280 of Bush's nominees get voted on and only 10 don't (I was watching C-SPAN earlier haha), I think the Republican whining regarding the filibuster lack of voting seems moot. Especially when Bush's percentage of approvals regarding judicial nominees is about the same if not better than previous presidents.

It seems Galloway's entire testimony is being expunged from the record because he owned Coleman and the lying bastards so hard. Hooray for the way to deal with issues.

I saw it on my United flight to San Francisco earlier this month. I thought it was an absolutely amazing film and Cheadle did a stunning job as the lead.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ May 22, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) I don't know, looks real dark to me. That was Burton's intention to make it darker than the one with Gene Wilder. (Although the argument can be made that that film was also pretty dark on its own i.e. the boat ride, etc.)

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 22, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) That article incited a bunch of people to riot so your attempt at sarcasm falls flat. Nuke, see links I posted in Post 149 -- You're wrong. Last Thursday, General Richard Myers, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Donald Rumsfeld’s go-to guy whenever the situation calls for the kind of gravitas the Secretary himself can’t supply, told reporters at the Pentagon that rioting in Afghanistan was related more to the on-going political reconciliation process there, than it was to a controversial note buried in the pages of Newsweek claiming that the government was investigating whether or not some nitwit interrogator at Gitmo really had desecrated a Muslim holy book. But Monday afternoon, while offering himself up to the networks for a series of rare, almost unprecedented sit-down interviews on the White House lawn, Press Secretary McClellan said, in effect, that General Myers, and the head of the after-action report following the disturbances in Jalalabad, Lieutenant General Karl Eikenberry, were dead wrong. The Newsweek story, McClellan said, “has done damage to our image abroad and it has done damage to the credibility of the media and Newsweek in particular. People have lost lives. This report has had serious consequences.” Whenever I hear Scott McClellan talking about ‘media credibility,’ I strain to remember who it was who admitted Jeff Gannon to the White House press room and called on him all those times. Whenever I hear this White House talking about ‘doing to damage to our image abroad’ and how ‘people have lost lives,’ I strain to remember who it was who went traipsing into Iraq looking for WMD that will apparently turn up just after the Holy Grail will — and at what human cost.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) Just watched The Hunting of the President. This movie would embarass anyone who says that people who don't believe there is a liberal media bias are stupid or ignorant. The film focuses on the so-called Independent Commission and the media's obsession with their case. quicktime trailer http://www.thehuntingofthepresident.com/qu...me300Kpage.html Great trailer by the way, how exciting! Seen that film -- its pretty damn good. David Brock really blew the lid off a whole lot of the impeachment BS (he was one of the heads of the Arkansas Project at the time and later on came out blowing the whistle) As for films I've recently seen: For a Few Dollars More Manchurian Candidate (1962) Citizen Kane (Call me a Philistine but I didn't think it was all that great) House of Wax (the original with Vincent Price) North By Northwest

And oh yeah -- The Senate report found that US oil purchases accounted for 52% of the kickbacks paid to the regime in return for sales of cheap oil - more than the rest of the world put together. "The United States was not only aware of Iraqi oil sales which violated UN sanctions and provided the bulk of the illicit money Saddam Hussein obtained from circumventing UN sanctions," the report said. "On occasion, the United States actually facilitated the illicit oil sales."

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) If you are talking about terrorist detainees, I couldn't give a s*** whether they get due process or not. I also couldn't give a s*** what gesturing smilies you send my way. YAS, I'm assuming you mean ones in the States as "potential terrorist detainees". Don't you think that it is a very dangerous precedent to give government (same government that gave us fun things like "I am not a crook", COINTELPRO, the My Lai coverup etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.) the approval to hold people without charges for months on end all because they use a certain word to describe them -- if they are so sure of the terrorist ties, try them in a court of law. Remember YAS, "innocent until proven guilty". It is the cornerstone of American legal society. And if you couldn't give a s*** about smileys then let me for no reason introduce the following -

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 20, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) You're confusing the "right to a speedy trial" with "humane treatment." EVERYONE deserves the latter, but those being detained as enemy combatants (it's not like they're jailing people in Afghanistan for parking violations) don't have the right to the former. What about the ones here that are being held without charges for years (take Jose Padilla for instance...held for years without being charged at all) If there is so much evidence to convict him -- give him his right to due process and his speedy trial guaranteed by the Constitution. The fun thing about America is that little caveat "Innocent until proven guilty" which makes terms like "potential terrorist" or "potential felon" just biased crap to justify removal of Constitutional protections and civil liberties. Technically, every person could be a potential felon. It is antithetical to the Constitution to have 'preventative detentions' where people are held for long periods of time with no right to counsel, no contact with their families and no charges brought against them in a legal court of law. And yes, this is occurring in the United States. Since I'm on vacation right now, I don't have the texts in front of me but check out "Its a Free Country" which is a look into personal freedoms and civil liberties after 9/11. -
Gotta love the Rupert Murdoch owned Sun running the photos. /sits back and waits for somebody to discuss the liberal bias of Rupert Murdoch

Eric Chavez to the Whitesox?????
LowerCaseRepublican replied to Southside hitmen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree with YAS. A's have too much invested in Chavez to let him go without some team giving up a whole lot. I mean they traded their up and coming 3B in the Dotel trade which shows that Chavez is one of their centerpieces. And having relatives a few miles from the Coliseum, Chavez is a huge fan favorite in the bay area -- and trading him would seemingly completely decimate what fan base they have since he is the face of their franchise on the field. There is no way that Beane would consider this trade unless the Sox give up way way way way way too much for him. And whatever happened to the old motto of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The Sox are 29-12, best record in baseball. They're getting by just fine. Yes, I would like to see more production out of Crede offensively but I'm not willing to see the farm get traded away so we can have a 3B for a short time before he goes off to FA and we get jack and s*** in return. -
http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn7395&print=true Sports shoes that work out whether their owner has done enough exercise to warrant time in front of the television have been devised in the UK. The shoes - dubbed Square Eyes - contain an electronic pressure sensor and a tiny computer chip to record how many steps the wearer has taken in a day. A wireless transmitter passes the information to a receiver connected to a television, and this decides how much evening viewing time the wearer deserves, based on the day's exertions.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 20, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) Names? Pictures? You still need something more equivocal than a couple of "unnamed sources" before you can go around saying something like that. The Newsweek story was so fundamentally flawed that it required a retraction and there is still no hard evidence that this type of behaivior was going on. NYT investigated the article. If I wasn't being all lazy on vacation, I'd go search up the article.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 19, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Being falsely accused of desecrating their holy book in the print media isin't helping in that endeavor. Retraction or no retraction the damage is done. Nuke, on Olbermann a few nights ago, he was discussing how two former interrogators from Gitmo verified that there were widespread abuses of the Koran going on at the base even to the point where there was a public PA announcement there saying that they would stop doing it. While the Newsweek story may have had errors, there seems to be abuses that need to be addressed.

http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2005/05/19/...p/index_np.html ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Tom Wilson is faced with a problem many city administrators would envy: How to spend $1.5 million on a bus stop. Wilson, Anchorage's director of public transportation, has all that money for a new and improved bus stop outside the Anchorage Museum of History and Art thanks to Sen. Ted Stevens - fondly referred to by Alaskans as "Uncle Ted" for his prodigious ability to secure federal dollars for his home state.
