  1. Probably more so. We do this to get away from our jobs; this is their jobs.
  2. Okay, just finished the bottle of NyQuil with salt. Tasted pretty weird. What do I do next to get on the dream quest?
  3. Looks like the Sox picked up another 2018 signing: Wilber Sanchez INF. He played on the 2017 Venezuelan 15u team, so he is 17 maximum. Its been hard to find much on him. He pitched in a game against team USA 15u and did pretty well (at least compared to how most do), but the prospect league he is a part of repeatedly said INF for him. This was the only video I could find of his swing, but there are a bunch of other posts with him on that EBPAcademy instagram. Easiest way to see them might be to search for him on twitter and look through their instagram linked tweets. I was also able to find a two game sample from a different prospect league in which he went 2-8, 1 HR, 2 BB, 0 K, 2 SB, 1 CS.
  4. Agreed. The profile seems like one you can find decently easily. Goodish defender that might have plus speed but no power and questionable hit tool against major league quality pitching. Unless we really just have a ton of money left over, I would really want to save it to see if any other Cubans pop up during the signing period. To me there are still a couple on the island who would be worth it more than Sanchez including what to me is the big prize in Pedro Leon. With the rate at which top guys are leaving and the MLB-Cuba deal seemingly dead, there is probably a good chance he decides to leave in the near future.
  5. Basically you have a contract that has years and a salary increase that the team can opt in to after a certain point but if they do not choose to opt in to it then the player can choose to opt out. So you can have a contract that is a base of 7/210, but the opt in time is after the third year. If the team opts in it will add a year or two to the end of the contract and increase the AAV for years 4-7. If the team decides not to opt in, then the player has the option to opt out early. So basically if the player is doing good then they get the higher amount because the team can't risk the player opting out. If the player does really bad they have the security of the base contract.
  6. Jesse again putting it out there Sox are in it if he waits until July. I find that interesting if just because it shows we might have $2mil or more still uncommitted. Either that or we really like him and would be willing to trade for more space.
  7. 26/41 I missed a couple I definitely should have gotten.
  8. He was one of the guys I had on my list of potential platoon partners if we get Joc or just in general. Pretty awesome to be able to get him on a minor league deal.
  9. Yes, but you can present every advanced statistic known to man but it won't help if the panel doesn't understand them. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/lets-fix-mlbs-salary-arbitration-system-the-arbitrators/
  10. What would suck more, not getting him (or Harper) or getting one of them on a deal with a short term opt out that its almost guaranteed they will take so that we basically have to wait in agony for them to leave us right when we will really need them?
  11. To stoke the fires of #HatGate again, here is the Sox 2019 spring training cap. Note the red on one part, but not the patch on the correct side. https://www.fanatics.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/chicago-white-sox-new-era-2019-spring-training-59fifty-fitted-hat-black/o-2354+t-25009778+p-70577443189+z-9-3570332620
  12. I think the big difference is that something like OPS tells you what happened while wRC+ can tell you what will happen in different situations. A better hitting environment will result in a higher OPS and more runs, but if they moved to somewhere else they would have a lower OPS even if they stayed the exact same talent level. wRC+ is adjusted so it doesn't match the results of what happened exactly, but it can tell you the difference in quality of player in a neutral environment which is probably better for predicting future performance. Of course expected stats should be even more predictive of future performance which will likely mean they are also much worse at telling you what actually happened.
  13. So who's going to be our man on the ground in Arizona spying scouting for any signs of Machado/Harper gear?
  14. There is a report (unconfirmed to this point) that Paul Goldschmidt and the Cards just agreed to a 5 yr $139m extension. If true, I wonder if that finally causes some real movement in the negotiations.
  15. Or you put out there that you won't take a meeting without an offer and then take the meeting anyway so other teams think you have another offer even if you really don't
  16. Temperature is stupid. I only need to know which of the 5 temperatures it is: 1) Hot as balls 2) Perfection 3) Sweater weather 4) Cold 5) Just stay inside
  17. I guess it depends on how accurate the scale is, but according to the old scale the difference would have been even bigger.
  18. I got all the other names, but who is Aaron? Am I just not remembering the username or is that the real name for someone here?
  19. And I 100% get that, but I just feel like it was a misunderstanding that was only going to escalate into something worse. I think I was trying to just jump in and calm things down and I did a really bad job at that. I'm probably not in a great frame of mind for online convos considering I am in an argument on a different board. I probably carried some of that over into this one.
  20. Is it bad that people with inside sources make me feel better about this than actual Hahn quotes? Whenever he talks it sounds like we won't be the highest bidder, but I guess I wouldn't put out there publicly that we won't be outbid. Letting an agent know you are willing to go a ton higher than current amount will probably just make you pay a ton more than you had to.
  21. IDK, he was referring to some specific people, so if that is disparaging Soxtalk while posting on Soxtalk then really anyone saying anything bad about any other poster while on here is basically disparaging Soxtalk. It kind of seems like this quote I found fits that description then.
