September 27, 200322 yr I'm not liking what I'm seeing. Of course Jesus is getting the extended strike zone while Fogg is getting very inconsistent calls behind the plate. One pitch is a ball and the next is a strike in the same spot. Prior should be done soon though unless he's gonna throw over 130 pitches.

Cubs are playoff bound.... what they do in the playoffs is another story.
September 27, 200322 yr The scenario to get to the playoffs for the Cubs, which can come true by the end of tonight. -Cubs win game 1, Houston Loses -Cubs win game 2 Even if Cubs dont win game two today, then tomorrow the Cubs go through the same scenario. All the need (after a win in game 1) is another W. Clement is shakey; either really good or really bad. He is the starter for game 2 Tomorrows starter for the cubs is with Kerry Wood

September 27, 200322 yr Houston choked. Just like the White Sox . Will be interesting to see how the Cubs fare against better than AAA teams in the playoffs.

Yep, they haven't played a major-league team since Montreal, and they dumped 2 of 3 to them. I'm sure Atlanta and SF ( and even Florida for that matter ) are lying awake at night wondering how to defeat the worst team in the playoffs.
September 27, 200322 yr Author Atlanta swept em in 98 and will sweep em in 03. Cubs have had to fight every day and Prior just threw 130 pitches today and will probably start game 1 in Atlanta. They Gawn!

September 27, 200322 yr Wheres that throw up emoticon...... 1 out in the top in the 9th, cubs leading 4-2.
September 27, 200322 yr I got a good laugh off that play. Borowski falls trying to dive for the ball. One man on for the pirates. How about a two run bomb rightnow.

September 27, 200322 yr Oh, and I finally saw some halfwit with the mandatory "Next Year Is Here" sign. I love when they trot that sign out, only to be thoroughly schooled in the playoffs and realize that this year is just another this year and next year has not yet arrived....again.... Another completely obvious and overdone sign seen at Chewing Gum Park: "Houston, you have a problem!" WOW, never saw THAT coming!!! How'd you EVER think that one up, Skippy???
September 27, 200322 yr Cubs pitching staff, meet: Rafael Furcal Marcus Giles Gary Sheffield Chipper Jones Andruw Jones Javy Lopez Vinny Castilla Robert Fick Can anyone say stacked?
September 27, 200322 yr Numbers: Pitching ATL 4.09 ERA, 658 ER allowed, 50 saves CHC 3.85 ERA, 609 ER allowed, 36 saves Batting ATL .284 AVG, 899 runs CHC .259 AVG, 711 runs and of course, last playoff appearance against each other ATL swept CHC
September 27, 200322 yr The Cubs will pull a White Sox playoof performance like we did in 2000. They played s***ty teams all threw September, got to the playoffs, saw a real team, and didnt know how to play baseball. But at least getting to the playoffs, is better than what we did, so i give them creidt. :fthecubs The Cubs have 3 great starting pitchers, I have a very hard time imagining them going 3 and out with Prior, Wood and Zambrano. This afternoon's game with the Cubs and Pitt is what baseball is all about, it was great!
September 27, 200322 yr The Braves can go head to head with anybody, I feel they are better equiped to beat the cubs than the Giants, so I am glad that the central winner plays the Braves. :fthecubs
September 27, 200322 yr Prior is great, Wood is good but inconsistent, and Zambrano appears to be feeling the effects of the Dusty Factor ( overwork and dead arm ). Clement is also hit-or-miss and they have no 5th starter ( sound familiar, Sox fans? ) The Braves can hit and pitch, and the Cubs can pitch, until you get to the PigPen of Guthrie, Farnsworth, Veres, Alfonsucka, and Old Man River Remlinger. Borowski is solid, but the rest of that bullpen is NOT that good, thus the Dusty Factor. Throw throw throw, you starters - 130 pitches?? That's not THAT many, it it?? The Cub hitting is spotty and the SUPERHERO is fading in September. When your top offensive threats are Errormiss Ramirez and Handy Dandy Randy Simon, Atlanta can't be panicking. Anything can happen in a short series, but it would be a MAJOR upset to say the least. Even in their meager success, The Lovable Losers are the worst team in the playoffs.

I agree about Prior, Wood and Zambrano to a certain extent, but I think Clement is better than you give him credit for, and unfortunately the 5th starter doesn't play a factor in the playoffs. I agree the bullpen is shaky. Here is where it gets scary though, Russ Ortiz is solid, but not as good as Prior, Greg Maddux is pretty good but not a flash of what he used to be, Horacio Ramirez is a decent left but his record is a product of great run support, Hampton is having a solid year, but can seems to lose his composure easily. The Braves Bullpen is good because of Smoltz, hopefully the braves won't need to depend on anyone else. So in the end, if the braves hit they win the series if they can't hit cubs pitching then the braves will lose. So go Braves Offense! :fthecubs
September 27, 200322 yr Damn, someone has to be blamed for this travesty of the Cubs about to win the central and the Sox choking...I guess the obvious guy to blame is Manuel...but I think outside the box... I blame....................Spiff!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for the Sox blowin it and the Cubs about to enjoy it... :fyou
September 27, 200322 yr Cubs leading 6-0 in the top of the 7th. They did it........the bastards have won this division.
