New CBA penalizes teams with higher payroll

Featured Replies

Combined with the new international spending penalties, this is a good thing.

They just need to change how the competitive balance picks work.

This and the new luxury tax penalties will basically act as a de-facto salary cap. It's about time.

I suspect that certain teams are going to spend incredible amounts of money in an effort to win, restrictions, taxes be dammed. That's simply the way they are.

Yup. The Cubs traded a guy who is clearly on track to be the #1 overall prospect on baseball for a rotation lefty controlled through their window. When you're trying to win you sell out, never hold back for a future that may never come.

For a #1 pitcher*

Perfect timing for us, we will have no big contracts on the books. No 20+ a year for the next 8 bs.

Makes you wonder how much someone like Harper will command now.

agreed, comp picks should be dolled out by record and if you hit a median salary floor.
