May 4, 20187 yr Obviously we won't be alone at the top when we start to get good. Who do you all think is shaping up to pose the biggest threat to the Sox during our contending years? I think Houston and the Yankees will still be around and great. Boston will likely stay relavent. Cubs will have a competitive core still. Washington will look different if Harper leaves. Toronto, Philly and Atlanta's prospects are starting to put them on the map and my surprise team is Minnesota. Why? Because they are always a thorn in our side when we are contending...they also have some nice players in the que. Yankees will be tough to beat...even with us roling out a Moncada, Jimenez, Robert and Anderson core every night.

May 4, 20187 yr The most important thing is who else will be good in the division. The playoffs are such a crapshoot, the #1 goal is to get there as many times as possible and winning the division is the easiest ticket. Luckily two of those teams should be complete crap for a while. The Indians are solid but may have some problems with salary raises soon. The Twins have talent, but also might struggle to add more. The wild card could have tough competition , but then again if a team like Houston dominates, they will win their division anyway. The National League teams are much less significant because if the Sox even make one World Series it would be a roaring success, let alone two or more.
May 7, 20187 yr I do like that the other full rebuilds that are "scheduled" to bear fruit at the same time as ours are clustered in the NL.

Honestly, no one else in our division looks that great on paper right now in a few years. Cleveland is incredibly strong right now, they have Kluber locked up for a while, but the prices on all their guys go up year by year, Miller and Cody Allen (so their bullpen basically) are free agents this year along with Brantley. The Twins and Royals have some guys who could be good players but not looking at a "surge of talent arriving this year" from either squad. The Tigers are a couple years behind us. For any of those teams to be really good they need to get lucky and nail some moves.
May 7, 20187 yr Cleveland is the class of the central right now, but I'm not sure about 2-3 years down the line. Lindor is due to receive substantial raises through arbitration the next three seasons, and recently rejected a $100 million contract extension. Kluber is signed for reasonable money. Detroit is lacking young position player talent, as are the Royals. I think the Sox will have a solid shot at the division in the next 2-5 years.

May 8, 20187 yr Author Twins are the dark horse for me. That new pitching staff is starting to take shape—Romero, Berrios, Gibson. Plus Rosario looks like a budding star, with guys like Buxton, Sano and even Escobar. Dozier has several more good years in him. Plus they have Royce Lewis in the system. They could be a big FA signing or 2 away from a serious contender.
