Ball Parks with a roof

Featured Replies

Watching Astros at home to the Giants on ESPN  , big crowd for a day game ? Roof shut , why ? I presume Texas has decent weather.

Texas can get very hot. Its up to the team if they want to keep it open. (this only applies for retractable roof stadiums obviously)

Although I think MLB decides during the playoffs.

They're the reigning World Series champs and are currently one of the best teams in baseball as well.

Summers in Houston specialize in 120 degree heat indexes.  Typically highs are in the 90's along with tropical humidities.  it is BRUTAL.

Whoa shut that roof and get the ac on :P

I was in Dallas in 2017 in late September, and the heat index was 107 at 8 pm. I can't imagine what the days are like in Houston in the summer. Yikes.

ESPN has exclusive rights to the primetime window on Sundays, but they will often let the Rangers schedule games Sunday nights as well, just because it is too hot to play during the day.

We took a summer vacation down there last year.  Our first day on Galveston Island it was a heat index of 114 when we got there.

They say the field there is as close to cement as possible.

The Rangers stadium is awful when it is hot.  Because of the office building along the LF wall, there is no opening in the OF for air to flow through.  The park is oppressively stagnant when it is hot there, which is pretty much from May to October.

Guess that explains why they’re getting a new stadium

Imo they need a dome worse than Minny does.
