Getz on Rutherford: Noticeably bigger

While they were at it, Getz also addressed what was visibly apparent when he arrived for workouts in the Dominican Republic: Blake Rutherford is filling out, and at least looks like someone who might be able to drive the ball like a traditional corner outfielder is expected to.

“We felt like Blake had a very good year,” Getz said. “Lining him up against all of our other offensive players in terms of consistent at-bats, giving us a quality at-bat, he was toward the top. He’s got a solid approach, uses the middle of the field. What we’re seeing with Blake right now, and we’ve been around him a couple times this offseason, physically he’s starting to mature. It’s his work ethic and he’s just physically reaching that age where he’s starting to fill out. He did drive the ball more last year and I think he’s going to continue to do that.”

For most part, Rutherford was rarely on the tongue of sox execs this soxfest (compared to last) and I missed this panel. Interesting to note, we'll see in spring training if things look different in bp.

I am still hoping he will be similar to Yelich

In the futuresox podcast, Rutherford mentions just feeling a lot stronger. Going to be a good storyline in ST.

I'm a huge believer in him (one of the seemingly few), I'm excited for what he can showcase in spring training

He's my #2 prospect in the system after Eloy. His profile is exactly what you want. Power is the last tool to the develop.

That's just too high. He is a fringe top 100 guy.

meh. from what i've heard, he may have the best swing in the system. If he can increase his strength and hit more fly balls, he could be an impact bat. Don't want to trade him for 2 years of Joc.

Ah, the early signs of spring:  the days grow longer, flowers bloom, newborn fawns take their first awkward steps after the long, hard winter and ‘Player X is in the best shape of his life’ articles fly across the internet.

Holy hell everyone, we’re finally getting close to having around baseball again!
