The Tigers had it right. For the most part, they didn’t retire numbers until the player was in the Hall.  I like team Halls of Fame that you can honor past players without permanently retiring numbers or building statues. Enough with the statues…please!

I like this.

If MVP Jose is not worthy, they should only have four plus Jackie:

  • Luke Appling
  • Frank Thomas
  • Ted Lyons
  • Minnie Minoso

No - Aparicio, Baines, Buehrle, Fisk, Fox, Konerko, Pierce.

Abreu's connection to the Cuban history of the Sox is also (as it should) going to play a factor as to whether #79 is retired or not. I've never been Abreu's biggest supporter perse, but there's a lot that goes into his career beyond looking at his WAR, where he ranks on various all-time franchise leaderboards, etc.

It’s such an obscure number to the point where I wouldn’t mind if they did because no one else is probably going to wear it.

This is where I'm at.  I'm not sure he deserves it if it's a popular number, but why not 79?
