Magglio Ordonez: Ordonez didn't produce superstar numbers in 2003 (.317, 29, 99), but the Sox are reluctant to move him. One rumor had the Yankees, who need a right fielder, offering Alfonso Soriano. Said Williams: "I'm one of the biggest Magglio fans, so we're certainly not shopping him at this time. But it's a long off-season."

If this is true about the Soriano deal, KW has to pull the trigger on that.

I also found it interesting that we may opt to deal Lee rather than Mags...

Guess KW thinks he may be able to lock Mags up long-term if he's going this route...

- Cito Gaston will be announce as the manager by Tuesday.

:(

honestly, i'd be a little disapointed myself. ozzie's ties to the

organization and his attitude make him my choice. not a knock

on cito, i think he would be a fine manager, but my sox blinders

hope for ozzie.

Ozzie's chances at this point appear to be slim and none.

Gaston's WS experience and overall experience as a proven manager in baseball give him the nod over all the other candidates.

Not sure how much I like him as our manager given the long period in which it's been since he's been a manager, but experience wise, he's the best choice.

i remember not too long ago that the newly resigned/fired

jerry krause said that the chances of the bulls signing

scottie pippen were "slim and none, and slim just left the building".

so i can still hope. :D

Good Lord, KW....if the Yanks are offering one of the most exciting 2Bmen in the league, who is still cheap AND young, how the hell do you not take that deal?!? I guess it makes too much sense for K-Dub, and he is confused. Its $14 mill off the books, management, thats all you need to know with this regime.

I do not want to trade Carlos Lee. This guy is going to be a stud, in my opinion. He barely scratched the surface of his full potential this season. I hope he stays with the Sox for a LONG LONG time and we see the greatness that is SEELEE!!

I wouldn't mind trading Maggs if the right offer was out there.

Gaston is a fine choice for manager. I would rather have him then Francona or Bell, wouldn't you?

No plan A, B, or C.... LMAO.

Agreed, Yahtzee...why trade the guy when he is finally coming into his own? He is starting to become a complete player, minus the occasional fielding gaffes. If anyone, Maggs goes to the Yanks for Soriano, we get about $12 mill off the books, and get a needed second baseman also.

I especially love how he imprved his defense greatly this year. He made some amazing catches I wouldn't have expected out of him in earlier years.

Almost everyone has their errors, it happens.

But yeah, Lee is awesome.

Would it be at all possible that KW is floating that trade out there to get fans' reaction? Would he be that smart or sly?

We can hope so, IB72. I would love to give K-Dub my opinion on it. Thats a trade that you can make and know that it was with the best intentions for the club. You are filling more than 1 need by doing so.

This is depressing beyong belief. If Gaston gets named it appears that KW is firmly in control no matter what the insiders say. I don't want Soriano irregardless of his sabremetrics. No plate discipline, with careful pitching this guys stats can take a major nosedive. Gaston for manager. Payroll stuck near the bottom. Might have to trade Maggs and/or Lee. Why not just contract or move the team already? Everybody happy about this? I'm very

I'm only happy if they decide that its Maggs that they must trade to clear the money. I'm not so sure that there is anything wrong with K-Dub being in charge. Soriano, the kid can only improve. Maggs, OTOH, is gonna break our payroll with his salary. Soriano is younger, cheaper, and fills a position we need.

In other words it's OK if we become the Pirates? That was the reasoning they gave for "dumping" all those players, that they couldn't afford them for the long haul. So everytime you have a player who has earned a decent buck you have to unload him. It's a vicious circle. No pennants will be won this way. Ever. Nobody is asking Uncle Jerry to spend Steinbrenner money. An 80-90 million payroll would be nice. He wants fans? Look at how attendance spiked when they went out and got Alomar and Everett. I really want to change my mind before spring training but right now it looks like the Sox are about to enter a long dark tunnel.

You can't expect JR and his boys to just change the way they operate after over 20 years of the same ole s*** every year. Therefore, I am proposing possible trades and signings that will keep this regime happy in terms of the payroll, and keep us competitive.

Maybe you should be GM then. :D

Rumor, doesn't mean the deal is on the table. Your right though, I wouldn't turn down that deal simply because of the financial reasons. They both put up eerily similar numbesr while Soriano can steal more bases and has better upside and is also younger.

This deal would be done in a heartbeat if I was the GM. KW goes on to say that right now he isn't fielding offers for Maggs...but I think he means he's not doing the shopping right now, he's letting other teams come to him.

I like that they are negotiating with Sully cause I'd like to have him back along with another relief pitcher whether its Gordon, Hawkins or whoever.

Yeh, I would like to see Sully back o nthe Southside, but not at his current $3 mil option price. Too much for our club to spend on any setup guy not named Marte.

BTW, Jas, why back to Red? The Green wasn't fitting? Green is where its at!!!
