Other teams bad contracts with 1 or 2 years left

He would be playing for a new contract though, because there is a damn near 0% chance that 2025 option gets picked up,

Considering that the buyout is $5 million and the option is $25 million, what exactly are we talking about when we say "he's playing for a new contract" if he isn't trying to at least earn $20 million in that new contract? That's all the new money in there if the option is picked up. We're going to hold onto him because he'll be motivated by the prospect of a 2 year/$15 million contract and that makes him worth keeping?

I think the Royals don't view Salvy as a bad contract.

The Sox were literally going to give up value for him weeks ago.

Just what this teams needs, more Royals.

Huh? Yoan should be motivated in 2024, because his 2025 option is exceptionally unlikely to get picked up up, and therefore will be playing for his next contract with a different team. If Yoan turns in another pitiful season next year, he’s looking at a 1 year deal for a couple million tops. Hence motivation shouldn’t be an issue if he actually wants to continue to play Major league baseball.

Yeah it's essentially a one year, $30mill deal and then he signs for not a couple mill tops for the following year or he plays himself into that option being picked up and its close to a 2 year//$50 mill deal over next 2 years.

What I hope: he plays well and they move him at the deadline and don't have to eat a lot of his salary.

What I expect: he's a DFA candidate in May/June
