November 18, 200322 yr Not much new, but here's the article. Rosenthal Inside Dish The Dodgers' interest in Cardinals CF Jim Edmonds is mitigated by their preference for a righthanded hitter. They've dangled LHP Odalis Perez for Edmonds, Sexson, Yankees DH/1B Nick Johnson and White Sox LF Carlos Lee. Like Edmonds, Johnson is lefthanded. . . . The Phillies, seeking an elite righthanded setup man to complement lefthanded closer Billy Wagner, list free agents Tom Gordon, LaTroy Hawkins and Shigetoshi Hasegawa as possibilities. One of Gordon's agents says the Devil Rays are "pushing hard" to make him their closer; Gordon lives in Avon Park, Fla. . . .
November 18, 200322 yr Another interesting tidbit from that article.... This is for all the guys who want us to sign Hawkins as our closer. Hawkins couldn't handle the closer's job with the Twins, and at least one scout questions whether he could succeed as a setup man with a high-profile team like the Yankees or Red Sox. "He hasn't got the psyche or the makeup," the scout says. "He'd be a disaster in that arena." . . .
November 18, 200322 yr Author Another interesting tidbit from that article.... This is for all the guys who want us to sign Hawkins as our closer. Hmm another high priced reliever blowing up in the Yanks faces. There's only a certain amount of guys in the MLB who can handle playin under the pressure in New York. Guys like Jeff Weaver just crack and fail miserably.

Guys like Jeff Weaver just crack and fail miserably. Some just cannot handle the pressure and others thrive on it! Hawkins will blow up in someone's face as a closer, especially in NY
November 18, 200322 yr That just seems to push Hawkins more in the way of the Cubs. Anybody else recall during the season when Letroy was quoted as saying he grew up a Cubs fan in Gary, Indiana. Seems to me that if you add in lifelong appeal and belief of playing for a winner it adds up to him sporting a Flubs uniform next season. Wouldnt it just seem odd to anybody else that Letroy would get picked up by the sox. Besides the Lofton, Ramirez, Simon how many times have you seen a player go against his former ball club right after being released. I just accept the realization there's no way we're going to match his salary expectations
November 18, 200322 yr Another interesting tidbit from that article.... This is for all the guys who want us to sign Hawkins as our closer. Everyone knew he couldn't close in Minnesota a few years back. I do not think he will be worth the money he will get.
November 19, 200322 yr Hawkins couldn't handle the closer's job with the Twins, and at least one scout questions whether he could succeed as a setup man with a high-profile team like the Yankees or Red Sox. "He hasn't got the psyche or the makeup," the scout says. "He'd be a disaster in that arena." . . . Oh, LaTroy, please sign with the Cubs. PLEASE.
