MLB.com Top 30

Featured Replies

Jim Callis of MLB.com has released his top 30 Sox prospects.  Despite a lot of graduations last year a pretty good list.  5 overall top 100, 13 are aged 21 or younger.

There is only 4 outfielders on the list, that's a huge area that needs to be infused with talent system wide.

There is only 4 INTL players that were signed by the Sox something that is being addressed and we should see the benefits from David Keller starting next year.

But...

This is the best the farm has looked in some time. Yeah it is missing the "star power" of the 2016 rebuild but this system has actual depth and there appears to be waves of talent not just a group of guys. Which is encouraging since Getz/Shirley/Janish are two years into rebuilding the farm.

The Sox graduated a lot of players from last year and the system seems better but I did a quick look on some other teams.  Prospects rated as 45 or better.  WS=10.       Cubs 13, Cle 17, Det 13, KC 17, Dodgers 19, St Lou 20.    So our depth still has a lot of room to improve.

The Sox have a couple of really important pieces of business this season.  #1 is getting Dutch and Hagen back on track as front end starters.  #2 is finding MULTIPLE front line players in this draft.  Not only getting a future superstar at the top of the draft, but using the extra money from the top of the draft to get multiple first round pick level players into this system, plus something else valuable at the end of the draft with the overage.  This is such a pivotal year for the rebuild.
