Great start to the season. Now we need to sustain and remain in contention

Wow! Great start. Hopefully we can stay in the mix for awhile and build for the future.

I get that this is a brutal stretch, and it seems especially brutal with our starting pitching seeming to be falling apart. But I think the Sox are for real. They can score runs, lots of runs, lots of different ways.

I think the offense will remain good, even very good. For all the complains, I am confident that the Sox bullpen is solid, especially when we use our good guys. On that topic:

I really, really would like the Sox to have a lead in the 9th inning tonight, and then, “Hey Phillies fans, did you have fun watching your closer Duran last night? Now meet our guy, Grant Taylor. Good luck. You’re gonna need it.”

With the starting pitching, I think it’s going to be up and down. Not as bad as it has looked this past week of the road trip, but not as good as it looked 2/ 3 weeks ago. And I think (hope) that help is coming from returning injured pitchers (again hope and relatively soon). I think the rest of the season that Sox pitching will be “good enough”, because . . .

When Mune and Teel return, hopefully healthy the rest of the year, I strongly believe the Sox will have as good of an offense as anyone in baseball, Dodgers, Yankees whoever. Mune is Mune, we know that. But what people forget is that during September, Teel was clearly the best bat in the lineup. His September OPS was .921. When Teel returns and finds his swing, the Sox are exchanging the worst bat in the lineup with possibly its best bat in the lineup. Think about that: Antonacci getting on base followed by Mune, Vargas, Colson, and Teel. No more having two guys on and Romo comes up to bat.

So, yes, this is very optimistic; but I think White Sox fans should be optimistic. Of course, as we see, injuries are always a concern, but I don’t see how, with everyone relatively healthy, the Sox can’t continue to play .500.

And don’t overreact to whatever happens during this brutal stretch while we’re without Mune and Teel!

Don't forget Pereira. Ant, Mune, Vargs, Colson, Pereira, Teel, Grich, Peters, Droth is a pretty good lineup.

We'll see if we ever actually get to see that lineup.

I almost went that way: continuing on about Grich, Meidroth, Pereira, Peters’s BA moving up towards .300; but I was ready to wrap it up. But now that I’m rolling again . . . think of every time we play Cleveland and watching Steven Kwan. You’d hate him, but also wish we had him. Now we have one in Antonacci, just get on base and let those guys drive you in.
