December 15, 200322 yr To my fellow Soxtalk brothers and sisters... I hate to say this but I think I may have been wrong, with my past postings re. the "direction" that the Sox are going. I wanted Reinsdorf to spend tons o money; I was looking for instant gratification. I came to realize that the Sox aren't going to compete with the Yankees and/or the Redsox, NOT WITH THE CURRENT OWNERSHIP! The answer, sad as it is to say is "REBULID". I read in this a.m.'s Suntimes that the Sox have talked to the Dodgers about Maglio for Perez, Mota, and 2-4 solid prospects, (We'd probably have to throw in Konerko and/or Valentin, but, who cares?). I love Maggs, but I say, GO FOR IT! We'd be getting 3-4 stud ballplayers for a guy the we can't re-sign anyway, and we'd free up $14-20+ million. BUT, if I did this, I'd still go after either Guerrero, and build around him, and/or Maddux, so he can teach our young arms how to be pitchers. In 2-5 years, we could be the 2003 Marlins or the 2002 Angels, but we'd be able to sustain it for several years. I still would like to see Reinsdorf sell the team, but being that he probably won't, this is the way to go! :fthecubs
December 15, 200322 yr Hate to diifer with your sig, tex, but it seems to me that we have rebuilding since 1921, not 1917. The 1917 team - world series champs the 1918 team - not world series champs because of the players in the service for WW1 the 1919 team - not world series champs for reason we all know the 1920 team - was in first place and cruising until with a few weeks left the prior year world series stuff hit the headlines and the team collapsed - it was for the 1921 season we lost 8 players and that is when the rebuilding began just my worthless opinion but for what it is worth, nothing, there it is

Sorry, it was before my time. I'm glad we have an old timer around here
December 15, 200322 yr Author I forgot to mention this... When I say that I want to see the Sox be competitive, I am talking about having a real, viable chance to win a Pennant and World Series, NOT to win the AL Central and get blown out of the playoffs in the 1st round. JR won't spend the $ to give us the chance, our ONLY opportunity, short of him selling the team, is rebuilding.
December 15, 200322 yr I'm glad we have an old timer around here Not to quibble you child you, but that should have been "I'm glad we have an old timer around here."
December 16, 200322 yr i think that the perez trade would make us better and we would DEFENATELY NOT be rebuilding. 400th post!!!!!

December 16, 200322 yr What are we rebuilding from The division has gone from the control of Cleveland to the control of the Twinkies with the Royals closing fast. somehow the Sox Era got skipped.
December 16, 200322 yr cwsox and Tex, just so you don't forget, we had 1959 in there as well. We only made it to the World Series that year.
December 16, 200322 yr somehow the Sox Era got skipped. No s***! To be fair they say a 1993/1994 team was pretty good but that ewas before my time. Rebulding right now, as the division is so damn pathetic (the 2002-3 Twins and 2004 Royals would be lucky to win 85 games in ALE, ALW or NLE) and the park is being renovated sparking some extra fan interest.....would be so f***ing bad it's not even funny. Unless 1.5 Mill a year crowds and a 45 Mill payroll team is sometihng one wishes for. The next 3 years are a MUST win, plain and simple.
December 16, 200322 yr Hard to rebuild when we never were built to start with, although I understand your point.
