Padres designate Brandon Villafuerte for assignment and Blue Jays designate Pete Walker for assignment:

I think the Sox could use at least one of these guys in the bull-pen. Villafuerte is only 29 and could be an effective set-up guy, and Walker could be used as a long reliever/spot starter, or even compete for the fifth starter spot. Rotoworld says the 'Spos are interested in Villafuerte, though, and since they had a worse record than the Sox they have first dibs.

Villafuerte wouldn't be a bad pickup, especially if the Sox could get him to a minor league deal.

Rotoworld mentions that Pete Walker will likely pass through waivers and return to the Blue Jays.

I don't understand why teams wouldn't take a chance on Pete Walker. He had a very solid 2002 where he became quite the nice surprise starter. Why wouldn't we take a chance on him? Or anyone else for that matter?

The biggest downside to Walker is that he's 35, so there's not much potential for improvement, but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him in Sox camp if he was signed to a minor league deal.

I would love for the sox to hop on villafuerte. but i would love ponson more

Ponson would be nice but not likely since someone posted he has a lutual aggreemat with balt. I wouldn't mind villafuerte tho. You can never have enough talent in the bullpen.

Oh I didn't realize he was that old, thanks bigred.

villafurte would be a nice pick up..especially if we somehow could move botch and move marte into the closers role (which he should have anyways)...villafuerte could then be the lefty set up man...
