Trump is negotiating to buy a sports franchise

Featured Replies

As some have said, this White Sox team is an undiscovered gold mine.

I think you are right. Maybe I should buy the Sox! Perhaps I'll make Jerry an offer......

You'd f*** this team up even more!!!

At least I'd be smart enough going in to know that I could never make everyone on this board happy at once. LOL

Damn right. :whip

Associated Press: NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Representatives from two groups are still talking with the New Jersey Nets about purchasing the team more than two months after the initial round of bids for the franchise.

A group headed by New Jersey developer Charles Kushner and another by Bruce Ratner, a real estate developer who wants to move the Nets to Brooklyn, N.Y., are still involved in the talks.

Ratner appears to be the top bidder, reportedly having made a $300 million offer. Kushner's group, which includes U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine, D-N.J., has bid $267.5 million. That group would keep the Nets at the Continental Airlines Arena at the Meadowlands sports complex in East Rutherford.

You can take the Nets off the list, Tump is not involved.

Why would Trump move the White Sox?

And I assume that there would be some sort of clause that would either limit where he can move the team, how much time would have to pass before he could move it, etc.

Not to mention, I dont think Denver can support 2 teams, and since MLB can not find a suitable area for the Expos to go, I doubt they have areas lined up for other teams wanting to move.

Trump needs a big city, NY, LA, Chicago.

Also, if Trump bought the White Sox, I would expect him to try and purchase the Robert Taylor homes and other proprety in the area and make Comiskey the epicenter of the new area.

Through development he could make that area just as successful as Wrigleyville, that is why the White Sox would be such a steal.

SB

That would really rock!! I think a lot more people would come to the park if there was:

a. a better team playing on the field

b. something in the area besides railroad yards and projects.

START THE CAMPAIGN NOW!!!

i think he is probably looking to buy veeky's brain

it is in the $250M price range

Can we honestly get an email address to Trump or to someone of Trump?

It's dreaming but hey, anything can happen!

Why do people think if Trump bought the team, the team would be better? He is all about making money, which is the same thing Reinsdorf is criticized for. JR, regardless of what some may think, is a very astute business man, who knows how to make money. He has come to the conclusion, and sane people would concur, that White Sox fans are not likely to fill a park, just because you are in first place, or have a high payroll. Then there is the argument that Trump sees a real estate play around the park, and could package it all together and make a mint. Believe me, if there is a real estate play near USCF, JR is already all over it. It happens to be an area of expertise for him. Trump is not going to buy the White Sox, and that should be a relief for White Sox fans. The team is much better off without him.

To those of you who got the ap phone list in an eMail, was Trump on it? If you did get the list and hes on it, you should give him a call and tell him why he should buy the Sox.

Many of you thought, I was crazy-- but with the big buzz now being that Jerry may sell the Sox, it seems like this could happen. And for all of you who said it was the Nets-- they weren' sold to Trump. We may soon be getting a real owner.

Don't start saying "I told you so" yet. It's still a case of pure speculation.

Not saying I told you so, it is just a matter pf putting pieces together: Trump openly says he is negotiating to buy a team. He also says that it is worth $250 milllion. Trump is developing big time in Chicago. Also he loves baseball. The Sox are worth $250 milllion and now we hear that Jerry and his group may be looking to sell. FYI I posted that the Sox were about to sell their naming rights last November and that is exactly what they did. Business sense says he sells now with the park updated and the deal with Comcast coming in. Now is the time for him and his group to get the most for the team.

That's interesting speculation on Jiggett's part. And it's not entirely out of the question. Considering that JR is getting up there in years, he may be looking to sit on the front porch and drink lemonade. Also, we had that recent rumor about Trump negotiating or interested in a pro sports franchise in the $250 million ballpark, and that is about the right amount for the Sox. It's a longshot, but there may be a smidgen of creedence to this.

The above is a post of mine made in the Jiggetts thread at 12:45 a.m. I'm right with you on the possibility. I'm just saying that it's still only a possibility. That's all.
