John Burkett is still available.

It looks as though that if anyone gives him a gauranteed Major League contract, he could be had by that team. I think Burkett would be great for us in the 4 or 5 slot. http://www.rotoworld.com/display1.asp?sport=MLB&page=news

Also, it looks as though Kaz Sasaki has pitched in his last Big League game. Makes me mildly sad because I loved watching him pitch, just not against the Sox.

I say offer him a minor league deal. It gives us another option and will force the younger guys to be competitive during spring training.

That is the thing. He won't take a minor league deal, especially with the White Sox. As the little blurb said in rotowold, it will take a ML contract. The Yanks apparently have already talked to him. Would he rather come here, or play for the Yanks? Not a difficult decsion. I personally have no problem giving him 2-3 million this year.

I would love to see him here, but wouldn't pay him anything more than 2 mil.

I'd give him a chance to make $2 million...use incentives. Tell him he is going into the season as our 4th starter, and give him a one year contract for $1.5 plus incentives or something along those lines. He would come.

burkett is 39 years old..last year had an era of 5.15..i think he is all out of gas..which is why he wants a gaurenteed contract..maybe if we had all the pieces in place except a 5th starter id consider it..but in the situation we are now...id go another route...eiither a free agent that was younger and if he did make a comeback with us would have some kind of a future (like loiaza) of just give to one of our rookies

f*** no. Burkett was awful last year. If he made it to the fifth inning, that was a good outing. This is rarely the case, but I'd rather throw a rookie out there and see what he could do.

Burkett only looks reasonable because he had the Red Sox offense behind him so that he didn't lose 15 games with his awful numbers.

The link you provided wasn't working for me, and if he won't take a minor league deal than the hell with him. He isn't worth 2-3 million a year.

Burkett Sucks .... Rather Have Rauch and Cheaper

I agree. Give that spot to the best of the young guys before wasting money on a washed up John Burkett.
