January 22, 200422 yr There were more Arod discussions with Boston but nothing appears imminent; ironically due to Kenny Williams reluctance to trade Magglio at this time. Understand from Boston's perspective, that the deal was completed a month ago with them getting Arod & Maggs. Their fans were exstatic. If they get Arod and trade fan favorite Nomar without getting Maggs, it would be a huge blow to Boston. Theo knows it and unfortunately for him, KW knows it as well. In order for the Sox to get involved Kenny is trying to force either Texas or Boston to also take Koch with the WSox getting Damon in return. Chicago would be willing to add the extra few million to make this deal.If KW holds true, the Sox would trade Maggs, Koch, & a prospect for Nomar, Williamson, & Damon. Boston is holding firm on the same trade a month ago. Another interesting twist, and I thought about not even posting this because it sounds so crazy. There have been talks including Anaheim into a four team trade. My source explained to me that multi team trades are often discussed but rarely completed due to the complexity of the deal. That being said, there were discussions with all four teams when officials for each team liked the fit of what would be the biggest trade of all time. The deal would result in: Texas getting: Manny, WSox prospect or Koch, Boston getting: Arod, Magglio, WSox prospect or Koch, Rowand Anaheim getting: Nomar, Konerko, pitcher, Chicago getting: Damon, Williamson, Erstad, Washburn, Ben Weber, Adam Kennedy Like I said, the chances of this happening probably aren't good, but each team thinks the trade is a fit in terms of money and players. The WSox would move Erstad to first base.
January 22, 200422 yr I could live with that trade the odds of a 4 team trade happening are just like my odds of winning 4 keno games in a row
January 22, 200422 yr I could live with that trade the odds of a 4 team trade happening are just like my odds of winning 4 keno games in a row Do you play keno on Wednesday nights there at the old folks home, or is that bingo night?
January 22, 200422 yr Well, that 4 way deal may be something the Angels would do. They give up Washburn, Weber, and Kennedy but thats enough salary to offset the addition of Nomar Garciapara and then Eckstein would move to 2nd base. The Sox end up taking on a lot of money: -Damon makes like 7 mill - Williamson at 3.25 mill - Erstad makes like 8 mill - Washburn will make 5 or so - Weber around a mill - Kennedy at 3 mill That means the Sox take on 27.25 million, give or take 2 mill (I'm going off salary numbers from my head so I may be wrong) Sox give up Magglio - 14 mill Konerko - 8 mill Koch - 6 mill So the Sox give up 28 million. This move ultimately saves them a little cash although they take on two pretty large long term contracts in Damon and Erstad. Of course a top of the order with those two would be dynamite with Lee and Thomas around that. The rotation would be stronger and the bullpen would be very strong with the additions of Williamson and Weber. Now lets look at the other scenario. The Sox deal Magglio and Koch which are worth 20 million, plus a prospect. They get Williamson (3.25 mill), Nomar (10 mill), and Damon (7 mill) in return. Thats roughly 20.25 million. Once again my figures could be a little off. This deal makes sense though, cause the Sox now have a leadoff hitter, they have the bat in the middle of the lineup to replace Magglio and they get a pretty darn good reliever at half the cost of Koch. I could even see the BoSox doing it, because they dump a bad contract in Damon. This BoSox-White Sox trade doesn't seem so far fetched cause Boston is going to have to move Nomar if a deal goes down and if the Sox are willing to stay about 4 mill over budget, then this is definately a solidfying move and KW still only has one hole in the outfield (RF - where Reed or Rowand could play). Of course the Sox now move Jose to 2nd or could somehow try and deal him for an OF). I could buy into this, this definately makes some sense.
January 22, 200422 yr id rather have nixon over damon.. i agree with cwsox on this one...too many teams..one of them would throw a monkey wrench into this thing and screw it all up...
January 22, 200422 yr By the way steff, just fixed your sig As far as Erstad at 1st, he can play it. Then again the Sox could play him in rf with Damon in cf and let him DH part time with Rowand filling in. But Erstad is a good first baseman.
January 22, 200422 yr id rather have nixon over damon.. i agree with cwsox on this one...too many teams..one of them would throw a monkey wrench into this thing and screw it all up... Supposedly Nixon is about to sign a 6 or 7 mill a year deal and if him and Damon are making the same, I'll go with Damon. He can play cf and is a very good leadoff hitter, something that the Sox direly need. Plus with Nomar in the middle of the lineup, he will fill in admirably for Maggs and Williamson is a pretty solid reliever. After that if the Sox could somehow pick up another starter, I'd say they'd be in pretty darn good shape

I know he can play it.. just not a move I would consider being a "key" to winning.

Its saved to futuresox's server and I changed the name of the directory it was in, so I just updated your sig area with the updated directory . Prior to that it wasn't showing up, although it probably still showed on your computer since you have it on your comp.

You all could really mess me up if you wanted to..
January 22, 200422 yr Jas, can you continue looking for my sig. I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Thanks
January 22, 200422 yr Jas, can you continue looking for my sig. I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Thanks I searched through a ton of your posts and I think somehow I deleted some of hte posts from the test board and yours was one of them. I'll give it a few more shots though . Does your buddy still have it on his computer by any chance?

January 22, 200422 yr To break the 4 way deal down a little more: The White Sox essentially acquire Nomar Garciapara, Johnny Damon and Scott Williamson for Magglio Ordonez, Billy Koch, Aaron Rowand and a prospect. The White Sox then trade Paul Konerko and Nomar Garciapara for Darin Erstad, Jarrod Washburn, Ben Weber and Adam Kennedy. If I were the Sox, I'd be thinking they could get a little better value for this and try to ask for Krod instead of Weber. I don't know if the Angels would bite, but it would be interesting to say the least. I always realize that the Angels would in fact be adding salary since Konerko is going there as well as Nomar. They are adding 18 million and giving up roughly 17 million. This seems like a deal the Angels would make though. So the Sox deal: Paul Konerko, Magglio Ordonez, Billy Koch, Aaron Rowand and a prospect Sox receive: Johnny Damon, Darrin Erstad, Adam Kennedy,Jarrod Washburn, Scott Williamson, Ben Weber Ultimately the Sox deal a rf, closer, cf, 1st baseman and a prospect and get two cf's (Erstie and Damon), a good starting pitcher, two quality relievers, and a second baseman. After doing this deal if I were the Sox I'd sign Raul Mondesi to play right field and let Erstad and Thomas platoon at 1st/dh.
January 22, 200422 yr My buddy just saw this rumor (He's a big angel fan) and he would be thrilled if the Angels made that deal.
January 22, 200422 yr I really like this deal, I just don't like the chances at it happening. The crazy thing about this deal is, the amount of players we're trading away amounts to about $28M....That's just a little more than a year of A-Rod's contract.

January 22, 200422 yr the sox also ned a left handed bat with power for the middle of the line up...come to think of it..we need alot of things Agreed. I just don't know how easily it could happen. I suppose we could get a true LH power hitter at the break, but I personally think that if we had a lineup that looked like this: Damon CF Lee LF Erstad 1B Thomas DH Crede 3B Valentin SS Rowand RF Kennedy 2B Olivo C we'd be fine for now and additions could be made. Erstad is good for 15-20 homers when healthy, and if he were playing 1B, he wouldn't get hurt quite as often because he doesn't have to go all out. And Erstad is the walking definition of a grinder. We've been interested in Erstad before(we damn near had him in the 01-02 offseason for Garland, Singleton, and a couple prospects), so it doesn't really surprise me a lot that we're interested in him once again. If the deal happened, I'd be ecstatic. I won't get my hopes up though.
January 22, 200422 yr Count me as one who thinks all of that crap is the imagination of someone with too much time on their hands. And Jason, will you PLEASE get off the Mondesi bandwagon. The LAST thing the Sox clubhouse needs is to bring in another malcontent who is not known for working hard and is known for not playing hard.
January 22, 200422 yr I still want to know who this Dude OTIS is. The rumors he throws out there just keep getting more farfetched each time. I believe KW, the Bosox and Texas when they say the deals dead.
