February 5, 200422 yr This is a little clip from Reed's scouting report on Baseball America I saw as I was reading: "Doug Laumann, who lasted three years as the White Sox’ scouting director, may have hit a home run with Reed. Reed played mostly first base during his first two seasons at Long Beach State before moving to the outfield as a junior. " Could there be a possibility he plays 1st base in the future?
February 5, 200422 yr Anything is possible....... well, almost anything (he won't play SS!) When he is ready, the Sox will find a place for him and 1B will be an option, although OF will certainly be the first.
February 5, 200422 yr Heh, Pete Rose switched positions a few times and look what happened to him! Do you agree though that a decision like this is at least a year or two away?

He can play first and Outfield... I like it
February 5, 200422 yr It depends whether or not he can handle playin Centre Field in da majors, cos he's not goin to hav enough home run production to justify bein a corner outfielder.

Who says corner outfielders have to hit home runs. Ichiro isn't a home run hitter and hes a good corner outfielder.
February 6, 200422 yr Who says corner outfielders have to hit home runs. Ichiro isn't a home run hitter and hes a good corner outfielder. Ichiro would prob be the only exception. I do think he could play in a corner outfielder if we needed him to, but most scouts tend to believe that he could play in center, From John Sickels; He played first base in college, but has more than enough speed for the outfield, where he's played as a pro. His arm is average but accurate. He has split time between right field and center field this year, but I think he has enough range to play center.
February 6, 200422 yr His arm is average but accurate. I disagree. Ichiro has been known to have a cannon. I believe he can play center also. I think you have the accurate/average thing mixed up. Alittle less than accurate with an arm which he throws bullets with.

Alittle less than accurate with an arm which he throws bullets with. He's talking about Reed And there are more exceptions to the corner-OF homer rule then just Ichiro. Shannon Stewart, Aaron Guiel(while he isn't good, he was decent for KC last year), Randy Winn as well...Toronto had to have had one...but yes, corner OF spots are more for power hitters then average hitters, but as has been proved before, you don't need to be. Also, the same thing applies to 1B. Mientkiewicz and JT Snow come to mind immediately, and I'm sure there are more as well....if the rumors are true about Erstad moving to 1B, he qualifies for that as well.
February 6, 200422 yr We have enough big bopper, base-clogging, station-to-station hitters as it is. We need a few guys like Reed - a contact hitter with better-than-average speed and baseball instincts. I can't wait until that dude is in our lineup. I truly cannot wait. But I will have to, since I think he's a year away. Oh well. He and Kris Honel can come up to the parent club together and set the world afire. Hell, what's another year.

They can bring Ryan Wing, Joe Borchard and Arnie Munoz with em too.
February 7, 200422 yr amen. we could use a few more guys whose main objective is to get on base, not hit the critical six-run homer. we're heading into the new season with the 4 x 100 relay team of Paulie, Maggs, CLee and Frank intact.
February 7, 200422 yr Author It'd be nice if the Sox could convert Reed into a shortstop. Boy would that be great if it worked out!
