February 18, 200422 yr I don't recall the exact wording, but I took it to mean that the odds on KC was 20-1. That's why it drives me crazy whhen sportswriters fall all over themselves trying to use some turn of phase the think is clever, and end up not communicating their points effectively. This is the paragraph from Greenstein's Tribune piece from Saturday "Still, there are reasons Las Vegas sports books have the White Sox at 10-1 to win the AL pennant, the same odds as the AL Central defending champion Minnesota Twins and half the potential payoff for betting on the Kansas City Royals." Did he mean to say: 'betting on the White Sox has half the potential payoff that a bet on KC would"? Or did he mean to say 'you'll get half the potential payoff from betting on KC compared to the White Sox'"? Or did he just get it wrong? I had initially read it just like everyone else (Sox and Twins favored), but then I looked at the Vegas lines Sunday online and each of several sites had KC as the favorites. Today, the line has odds still favoring KC, Twins, then Sox: Just confused because I never actually saw a line picking the Sox to win Central. Shows what the oddsmakers know, White Sox will win the Division. Book it. Not with my money though.

If you just want to feel good and damn the reality, skip the next paragraph It's going to be a nightmare. The Cubs will win their division and the Sox will finish 3rd, maybe 2nd. We've lost starters that are being replaced with question marks. How can you not be negative when you're Ace has declining stats over the past 4 years, your #2 guy had a career year, can he repeat? and after that Who's going to close? An unknown from Japan? Got Leadoff Got 2nd Got a stick at 1st Got CF Of the past 3 or 4 seasons, this is the worse Sox team assembled to date. sorry if that offends someone. Let's Be Happy! Yeah! Anything can happen. Two or Three guys could have E-Lo type seasons, Hell all 5 could! Mark, Estaban, Jon, who cares who's pitching, they could all be 20 game winners! E-Lo came out of nowhere to win 20! And we have Zero; the greatest closer in baseball! Kong is over due for a great season. Frank's happy. We got Ozzie!!!! Yankees got A-Rod and Jeter? f*** them we got Joe and Jose! Who could want more? Go Team!!!

February 19, 200422 yr Anybody can feel free to use this one: Another nice sig, and most definitely a clam this time - most likely the northern quahog, Mercenaria mercenari. Mighty good eatin'. But for Pale Hose and you, I think they would immortalize the spirit of the thread better if the said "clam down." Whoever thought typos could be so entartaining? Baseball must not have started yet.

I can't read the words 'lint', 'teacup', 'kneecap'.. hell just about any word without thinking that, but I think that's the case with all guys.
