Looking for a catcher or coach

Featured Replies

Hello all. I am on here to see if I can find someone with catching or pitching coach skills who can help me develop into a more sound pitcher. I currently have 4 pitches; a curve(needs work), a slider, 4 seam fast ball(clocking between 84-90), and a changeup. I can locate the fastball, slider, and change with decent regularity.

However, I am looking to increase my velocity and command. I am looking for someone who can catch and/or coach me. I am willing to pay $/hr. I'm looking for someone who is available 5-10 hrs/ wk. E-mail me at jeffreywerner@netscape.net if interested.

My advice is to call the Sox/Bulls training academy in Lisle. They should be able to give you some help.

Call CF Swingtown in Orland Park. I used to work with guys there. They have guys that know what they are talking about. I used to work with a guy that worked as a pitching coach for ND Baseball. Also got hitting instructions from an old Yankee prospect that hurt his knee. I don't know who they have there now, but they normally have very good instructors there.

Carlton is out there all the time during the week. And in the off season Ron Coomer instructs. That's a great facility.

If you live in NW Indiana, I could tell you the best places, but I'm assuming you probably do not.

I could show you some stuff...eh, eh!

My best guess is to call up some of the local high school coaches or even college coaches or the White Sox and ask who they recommend. Then talk to them and see if they fit your style or what your looking for.

I used to do baseball camps every summer, lot of fun, but you learned a good deal too. Never did any private type pitching lessons. I basically learned to pitch by throwing a ton of pitches and just having my dad or friends catch me.

Of course I don't pitch anymore

I gotta agree with CWSOX45. If your real serious, call up the Bulls/Sox trainging academy.

Bulls/Sox

Call the Sox Bulls Training Academy; Ask for Mike Moyzis.

Just be careful. There are some unethical types out there who will enjoy taking your money and feeding your dreams.

Also, read as many pitcher bios as you can find. It's a amazing how most developed by throwing lots and lots of pitches.

And finally, look for a catcher who wants to develop his skills. I caught a couple guys for an hour or two a day for months on end. We both were helping each other. We also had a guy who was trying to develop a better hitting eye who would drop by every once in a while to stand without a bat in the box and call balls and strikes to himself. Even though none of us played professionaly, we had a lot of fun. If I was doing it for money, or paying, at some level it would have been disappointing instead of fun.

Yeah, I made a mistake of paying for a private pitching coach this winter. I ended up only going once because he wanted $40 each time for only an hour and a half. I didn't learn that much at all. You would probably do better looking for tips online and anywhere else and coach yourself. That and going to camps.

I payed by golf pro a lot more for an hour lesson, so $40 doesn't sound all that bad, if he knows what he's doing.

At least with golf pros you can check if they have their Class A PGA card. With baseball coaches, no such standard exists.
