I am thinking of locking the Israel Palestinian threads and the religious threads. Any thoughts? This forum has turned into one big argument, and while I enjoy a good debate, I think these are taking over the board. I tried to drown it out today, but that obviously failed.

I don't think they should be closed.

People just need to be more tolerant of others views, and if they can't do that then they shouldn't respond.

I don't post in those threads, but I say don't lock em, a little debate is always good. It just has to be a controled-debate.

Edit: Wow it diffentley isnt a controlled-debate :o

I'd say close 'em.

Greater minds than ours have debated these issues for centuries, with no answers...just pissed off combatants.

Peace

No. This is one of the things I like most about Soxtalk, is that the freedom of topics and discusion. Personally I think we all could use a lesson lately (myself included) in respecting others. Make an arguement, but don't make it personally. If you find yourself talking about the person, rather than the topic, there is no need for the comment IMO. Now we do everything we can to allow people to have their say, and always will. I really hate closing threads, and do so with extreme regreatance.

Just take a step back and relax people. Someones cyberopinion isn't worth getting upset about.

If anyone wants to talk more about this feel free, or if they want to keep their opinion anonymus, PM me.

Mike

I wouldn't close them.

Now next time we have someone burning someone else at the stake :o then maybe...

but not until then!

people need a place to express their feelings and opinions and they are, so all is good, at least it means those involved are taking part and that is all good.

I appear to be the only 'yes' so far. While I don't mind debate, it seems that they are the same threads over and over again involving the same name calling bulls***. Just because you may not agree with someone else here does not give you the right to slander the other person (considering the name calling is between people that have never met, there is a great deal of chance that it is slander and not fact).

I am not saying lock them up and never allow them again, but I do think there needs to be a break of sorts for at least a short period of time.

Fan I see your point..

I4E is the only one guilty of this. If we can only keep him under control...

But I think they should stay open.

I think that the ark thread and the other one from last week are great examples of how to peacably discuss matters intelligently. The problem we seem to run into is that some people aren't intelligent and don't want peace.

Back in the day, when I used to bartend, we were taught never discuss religion or politics with customers, peolpe's feelings always get hurt and/or someone gets pissed off and/or fights ensue.

I agree, and admit that things between Apu and me have gotten a little personal, and I am truly sorry that I let his opinions get to me. Like I said, this is a volatile topic, and one that I take very personally (my father was a Holocaust survivor, who went to Israel and fought for her independence in 1948.).

I will gladly abide by any decision you make re. closing these threads, and I will try to represnt myself and my opinions in a more dignified manner.

To those I may have offended, I apologize.

I KNOW you are talking about Apu when you say that there are some unintelligent people here who don't want peace.

I have said all along that I (like all Israelis (Jews)) want peace more than anything else, but am not willing to sacrifice my "homeland" to get it!

Can we not argue, point fingers and not name call on the thread about that very topic?

Not here, not now. Let it go.

I'm sorry.

No mas!

I promise.

As the resident "Anti-American, Anti-Semite Semite Loving, Puppy Kicker Terrorist Scumbag Who wants the Genocide of the Jews and Israel in the company of Hitler, Vanunu, and HaCohen", I think they should stay open. Anybody who doesn't want to see doesn't have to read...it's not too difficult.

I am what I am!!!

:)

I just stay clear.

I think by now most of the folks here know that whenever a thread starts about the Middle East you can expect NUKE and APU and I4E and TEXSOX and CW (Holier than thou)SOX to brawl away for about 300 replies before we all get sick of it. Then another one starts a couple of days later and it happens again.

I also think by now that when a religion thread starts NUKE stays out of it because he doesn't care ( I am a protestant and dont really give a crap who says what about whatever religion ) while everybody else fights it out.

We all know what the guaranteed brawl threads are so there's no reason to lock em cause those who dont like it know to stay away and locking them spoils the fun for the participants.
