Suppose Pedro could be a Yankee afterall?

Apparently negotiations between Pedro and the Red Sox are off, for now atleast.

Hey, maybe the White Sox should sign him

I wouldn't want him. He seems past his prime due to injuries.

I would still take him in a heartbeat if the Sox could afford to do so. Pedro may not be unhittable as he once was but I would still put him up there with just about any pitcher in baseball. Lets not forget that just two years ago he was 20-4 and with a 2.26 ERA and last year he won 14 games with a 2.22 ERA. How many pitchers could do that if they were "past their prime". And for everybody being so concerned about Pedro this year the guy still has a 3.03 ERA.

He would be overpriced so we couldn't afford him. His price is more than his value now.

Probably, but that is why I said I would take him in a heartbeat, IF the White Sox could afford him (which they obviously can't).

Do we really need another high price malcontent in the clubhouse? For the money Pedro will command there have got to be better options, such as two good starters.

I'm not a fan of getting pedro, not worth as much as he wants, plus him and ozzie would definitely not get along.

Exactly. If we had that kind of money there are better ways to spend it.

You mean like on Maggs, right?

Maggs is going to be making closer to his value than Pedro would in my opinion. However, if the Sox decided to let Maggs loose they might be able to benefit from it. The glut of good young OFers in the system could replace him and the money could be spent elsewhere. I'm just saying there are positives and negatives anytime you sign a big money player and have a budget.

I know what you're saying, and I agree 100%

I wasn't specifically talking to you, you just brought it up and I wanted to point out something people had brought up before, saying that keeping Maggs for $14 mill a year is a good idea...get Pedro for $18 mill a year, and while you are spending $4 mill a year more, you are getting a STUD pitcher, while that OFer can be replaced(not necessarily well, but replaced all the same)

It would be easier to replace an OF. Look at how Mondesi had to wait awhile and eventually signed with the Bucs. I am sure he would rather come here than to Pittsburgh and he isnt commanding as much money as he used to. It is the same way for other outfielders. Reggie Sanders is on a new team every year. Pitchers are much harder, even decent pitchers are commanding alot of money now.

Exactly

Miguel Batista got like $4-5 mill a year from Toronto and all he's done so far is put up an ERA of about 7.00. Ponson got like $6-7 mill a year and he's been quite bad. There is a growing need for pitching in today's game, and when you see all the home run numbers, you know why.

Exactly. If we had that kind of money there are better ways to spend it.

From a Red Sox standpoint, this is exactly what there thinking. Signing Pedro long term which he wants could be detrimental to the teams well being for the next decade. Take the picks, take the 17 million dollars and never stop running because thats robbery.

Losing Pedro means keeping Lowe, Varitek, Shrek, Williamson long term plus still having money left over for next season for a Matt Morris type pitcher...

Man, its a shame that Pedro has to be that way, and its also a shame that in the midst of all this he goes out and gets creamed.. way to make your 17 million dollar per year statement Pedro :stick

As good as Pedro has been, he's a career ending injury waiting to happen. The BoSox have had to baby him to get him through the season. The kind of money he would command makes him way to high of a risk.
