May 4, 200421 yr I, along with many other Sox fans..groaned upon hearing Schoe would be a starter this year..this is our official thread to eat crow. Schoe has looked damn good so far this year for a number 4 starter. Sorry for ever doubting you, Scott!
May 4, 200421 yr We do seem to have a solid 4-man rotation. I'm eating crow that E-Lo has continued to pitch at a Cy Young level. I was also expecting Buerhle to come out the gate a bit hotter.
May 4, 200421 yr The thing about Shoe that is night and day different over last year is his ability to get out right handed hitters. Last year righties just killed this guy. That cutter has been a miracle pitch now for both ELo and Scho. I wonder how long it will be before either everyone picks the pitch up, or people start blowing out their arms because of it.

I love Loaiza, but his 4-0 record doesn't mean he's pitching at the Cy Young level he was at last year. He's gotten run support when he needed it and he's gotten away with not being all that sharp and still getting us the win in two, maybe even three outings. That said, I'm predicting Mr. April keeps sharp and has a solid May and beyond.

That stat alone is enough to get him disqualified from Cy Young consideration. Let Scott S's performance stand as exhibit A that, once again, SPRING TRAINING STATS MEAN NOTHING.

May 4, 200421 yr Since the 2nd inning of his Yankees start he has been our best starter. I hope he can keep it up. I am sure he will have his moments but it will be huge if he can win 14 or 15 games.

Schoe has looked damn good so far this year for a number 4 starter. Sorry for ever doubting you, Scott! Who would have thunk it? Coming out of ST Wright looked solid and Shoe looked horrible. What a turnaround. I watched the game last night on ESPN2 and the guy was absolutely sharp as a tack. I am impressed.
May 4, 200421 yr Anyone else wanna give kudos to KW for fleecing Anaheim on this trade by giving up Glover (who is no longer with Anaheim) for Show? I believe we also gave up Scott Dunn (who we got for D'Angelo) and Bittner...Overall, I like that trade.
May 4, 200421 yr I was at Camden last night and Scho was great. The bad weather was responsible for his rough start (I think his brain was still a bit cold in the 1st) and for Ozzie not allowing him to try for the CG. The walks early on and Roberts SBs actually woke Scott up and he was barely touched the rest of the night. I'm sure most people posting here saw the game on TV, so I won't go into much detail except to say that the number of Orioles that made solid contact (let alone got a hit) off of Scho was maybe 3 or 4 for his 7 innings.
May 4, 200421 yr I wasn't to worried until even rotoworld got into the Shoeneweis bashing.. well im eating it, and your now on my fantasy team Scott, congrats.
May 4, 200421 yr Ozzie not allowing him to try for the CG. In Ozzie's defense: {from today's trib} Schoeneweis had a two-hit gem working. But he also had thrown 106 pitches and told Guillen he was out of gas. "At least he was honest with me," Guillen said. Show has been great.... Now come on big Jon...you were my pick this year!!!!!!!!!!
May 4, 200421 yr I had confidence in Schoe, and thought he would improve as a starter because he is much worse when runners are on than when no one is. Also its good to hear that Schoe told Guillen the truth, instead of trying to force himself to go on. SB

But I certainly wasn't bashing Ozzie, either for weather (the raining, 40 degree weather) or for pitch count, taking out Scho made sense last night.
May 4, 200421 yr I'm just going to say I always thought he had it in him, but I still want to see him continue to improve and continue to get better. He still has things he has to work on and I noticed he was leaving his slider and changeup up a little too much. Still, he really is pitching in on righties more and it is making him a much more effective pitcher. To go along with the fact he has a cutter, I think the changeup has really helped him against right handed pitchers. I liked what I saw in spring when it came to his development and he seems to be putting together his new weapons well. Hopefully he keeps it up.
May 4, 200421 yr I think as of right now, we all kinda look like jerks.... Schoe said in spring training.... im not using all of my pitches We all doubted him.... Now he's pitching lights out (excluding Indian game) and we all have yolk on our face. but it's a good high quality yolk... ostrage egg yolk.

Your awesome

But I certainly wasn't bashing Ozzie, either for weather (the raining, 40 degree weather) or for pitch count, taking out Scho made sense last night. Ozzie took Scott out at the right time. An inning earlier wouldn't have surprised me that much. As far as this thread goes, I never had an opinion on Schoeneweis so I am fine with him on everything! I have sure liked what I have seen this season

Yea, but as I said in an article I wrote about this before the season started, so did Colon when he was with us in ST and his numbers weren't that inflated. Regardless, I'm still eating crow for dinner. Keep it up Schoe.
May 5, 200421 yr I took Scott for his word in ST, as what he was saying made sense. He needed to work on and develope those pitches down there to become a good starter. Having siad that, I can't say that I thought he would be this effective. You have to give KW kudos for knowing what he was talking about with this guy. He traded an unused mop up reliever for an unused mop up reliever, but he saw something in Scott that turned that deal in a real steal. I'd laugh my ass off if he outpitches Colon this year.
